Harbor Freight Bauer thread tapping machine [Easy DIY]

Got really bored over the weekend and bought a $89 Bauer drill press at Harbor Freight, stripped it down, and made a thread tapping machine

That is kinda brilliant. Shame that doesn’t have a deeper capacity between spindle and column. Irwin, Apex, Sata all make adjustable tap socket adapters that would be perfect for that.

Have you removed the coil spring yet? I am about to do the same thing to one and was curious if removing it helped.

Yes. It does great! Of course, now it doesn't go back up when I let go of the handle. But it works just as I planned
