In this video I take a look at the brand new DOYLE Anvil from Harbor Freight. we all know the Central Forge anvils weren't that great, so how does this cast steel DOYLE anvil stack up? Is it worth the $139.99 price tag? Watch on to find out

1st one I got had 5 repairs/ fixes, the worst one about the size of a dime right on the edge. Took it back. They only had 1 more. Opened it up at the store and this one had 1 small spot about the size of a nail head where the horn touched the body but on the side where I'll not be hitting much or ever. All in all I'm happy with it. Greg in Michigan

I hear you. It’s a cheap anvil, so perfection isn’t expected, but being usable is! And it is most definitely usable

Buyer beware….. I bought a Doyle anvil earlier this year and tried to return it due to a casting defect in the horn that had been filled with weld and crudely ground down with a coarse disc. Since the nearest store seems to have only one in stock at a time, I tried to return it to another store. That store was gracious enough to let me open up and examine the one they had…. but I found an odd defect beneath the tail that was poorly hidden with filler and I didn’t swap. I did eventually exchange it at the original store for the only one they had in stock. Unfortunately, it - too - had a filled defect in the horn and a golfball-sized void along the middle of the Pritchel hole. This one also seemed very soft with poor rebound and little - to no - ring. It dented nearly as easily as the cast iron anvil I have. I suspect it was not properly tempered. So, 3 out of 3 were not acceptable to me. It is interesting that the half dozen display models I have seen are nearly PERFECT… but, of course, it is corporate policy that displays can’t be sold or purchased. In my opinion, it is quite possible that the displays were from early production when HF was trying to generate interest in them. I also suspect that as demand increased, quality control decreased to meet demand. I eventually returned mine for a refund and ended up buying a Vevor 66# London-style from Amazon. The casting was noticeably better than the Doyle - as were the rebound and ring. I would definitely not recommend the Doyle anvil at this time…..

I bought one a week or so ago and had 4 small weld spots on the face, two on the back and two on the thickest part. All are smaller than the head of a 16 penny nail. Rebound is 80% or greater on most of the anvil except the back. The horn is soft, my 1” ball bearing left little dents. I’m no blacksmith and wanted an anvil to do small projects around the house. For $140 I’m more than happy with mine

I’ve noticed the horn on mine is pretty soft as well. The good news is that with the hardy and pritchel, you can always get or make a cone mandrel if the horn gets too beat up. Obviously cold metal is going to take a toll on the horn faster than hot metal if it’s not being used for blacksmithing.

My harbor freight finally got 2 in stock - I have been calling for weeks. They wouldn't let me open the box in the store. I had to buy it and took a quick look on my tailgate. They are packaged, greased and have wax paper on the top. I couldn't get a good look and wanted to check it out in the shop anyways. I'll look her over tonight and get back to you.
