I run a small welding service when I’m not welding in refineries, if you know how to use the machine and how to weld properly this machine is great for the money, just use good quality wire like Hobart or Lincoln I’ve welded up to 1/2 inch thick steel with it no problem just bevel and run multiple passes

Thanks for the straight forward, informative video. I recently picked up one of these cabinets at the flea market for $60. It came with four types of media. I can see myself using all of your modifications. It hadn't occurred to me that it would be nice to have the blowgun inside the cabinet but now it seems obvious. I will probably add a vacuum system of some kind and a rotary table.

You hit it on the head, some channels are saying MIG is harder than stick, sounds like they have never used stick!, as you say positioning, angle, arc distance and so on are very hard to master, MIG is not as fussy, learn stick and MIG is a walk in the park.

Evaporust works great and you don’t need any of that
@GarageHobbyist21 күн бұрын
True, but I had everything except the $1 box of baking soda I turned into washing soda laying around, so this didn't cost much. This can also be scaled up to whatever sized container you want for very little relative cost. I have a bunch of parts from a 1950's cast iron tractor engine that need to be done. The cost of the amount of Evaporust I would need would be pretty substantial.

I haven't used a wire feed welder in 20 years. That said, I can't get mine to work for shit. I'm hoping it's me. It sparks, then not, sparks, then not. The best I've gotten is it pops pops pops. So it sparks with less time between, but still has no constant spark. I've adjusted the power and feed up and down. And Ives moved the ground to within 6" of the weld. It's 3/16 angle iron. Anyone who can actually tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it.
@GarageHobbyist20 күн бұрын
Make sure the tension on the feed drive isn’t too tight, as well as the spool itself. It sounds like the wire isn’t feeding quite right.

Looking for an opinion... Already have a nice AC/DC TIG, I am a fairly accomplished TIG guy... not much experience with wire feed... looking for a rather inexpensive flux core machine to keep in the race trailer for emergencies (kart racing, drag racing) or maybe occasional use in the shop... Harbor Freight Titanium 125 Easy Flux is on sale this week for $129, HF is right down the street for me ...or do I want to look at a mail order machine. I don't need to follow a specific budget, just looking for good value on a reliable machine mostly for if (when) I get in a jam on the road or at the race track. Thanks for any input.
@GarageHobbyist27 күн бұрын
The Titanium Flux 125 is a much better value now that they have lowered the price from the $200+ it use to be. If you want something from a store you can swap out should anything go wrong, that’s the way to go. It is still a one trick pony when compared to other machines, it can only run flux wire. YesWelder, ArcCaptain, and BestArc all have machines around $130 regular price (the YesWelder is $113 right now) that can do flux core and stick out of the box, and they do lift TIG if you purchase leads for it. The YesWelder and BestArc have really great displays, and a little more adjustability than the others. I have owned and used all of these machines I have mentioned (BestArc just arrived, video coming soon), and I will say that the only machine I had an issue with was the Titanium. The wire feed relay got stuck. I tapped on it and it freed up and hasn’t happened since. But…none of the other machines have had a failure. I think I was the most surprised by the BestArc, although I just got it and don’t have a ton of time on it yet. I started teaching my wife to weld with it, and I think she claimed it when the videos are done. After all this, I would say go with the YesWelder if you want the nice display, and the ArcCaptain if you want simple with options. The BestArc is pretty awesome honestly, I just need some more time with it before I recommend it.
@maxnitrous26 күн бұрын
@@GarageHobbyist Wow, really appreciate the speedy response. As a matter of fact, after I left the above comment, I saw your "Don't Buy It" video on the Harbor Freight Titanium... It had me 2nd guessing. Hell, I can easily drop $150 in the pub if I buy a round for my friends, so saving $20 at HF is not really a big deal. I do like that if it gives me trouble, I can run to my HF, 1/2 mile away, and get it swapped. I like the small size of the SIMDER... easy to pack in trailer. I guess I will read a little more, watch more of your vidoes and wait to make a more informed descision. Thanks again, I am glad to have subcribed to your channel.

As a beginner this is the welder I learned on and I have no problem with it
@GarageHobbyist27 күн бұрын
I learned on it also, and it performed fine. My point in this video was that the price had climbed to over $200 regular price at the time of recording, and it just wasn’t a good value when compared to other machines. Now that the price has been lowered, it’s a much better buy. It is, however, still a flux core only machine. Other machines can also stick weld out of the box, and are capable of lift TIG for the same price or less.

If you're a hobbyist, learn to run flux core well - it welds great once you get the hang of it. Zero gas bill. If you're a professional, learn to run flux core really well - zero gas bill. Our gas bill here started climbing to the stars just before con.vid - it continued to climb to the point I'd had enough of being gutted for gas. I dragged every cylinder we had back to the suppliers & got my deposits back - we had 12 cylinders that carried 150 deposit each and 120-150 for "refills". They didn't exactly act charmed to give the deposits back either - I had to stomp my feet. Went bought about 100 rolls of flux core - mostly 0.6mm as I thought thinner more better at first - we do bodywork welding. Didn't much like the process at first, struggled to get neat & tidy welds. Persisted, changed every machine in the workshop to tiny little flux-core only inverters, rolled all our big Mig machines into the store-room - where they remain - started learning how to really rock with flux-core - to the point I can lay runs that look like they were Tigged. Learnt too that there's only one size flux-core wire - 1mm. Have about 50 rolls of 0.6 wire thrown in a box - wouldn't bother with it. Useless. Made a lot of mistakes while learning - however, with the cost saving being over 1000 a month, I regarded those as free mistakes/free education. Learnt you need a machine that offers a lot of control & a lot of power - you need to be able to control every parameter - volts, amps, wire speed, arc force, you need a really stable wire feeder & you need a really good way to clean your welds right after you lay them. Would I go back to using gas? Nope. Not if you gave it to me for free - there are too many positives to flux core for welding thin material. My only regret is that I didn't make the change 10 years before I did. I shudder to think of the tens of thousands I spent on gas in that time, for no benefit that springs to mind.
@GarageHobbyistАй бұрын
Flux core is great for most things. But when it comes to stainless and some more intricate things, it’s hard to beat TIG. I also use MIG quite a bit, mainly so I don’t smoke myself out of the garage 😆
