I’ve had trouble with the punch flange tool. I finally figured out how to fix mine after it broke. Take that top Allen head screw off the body of the tool. Fill full of oil, put screw back in cycle a few times then top off with oil. Made mine worth like new.

had the same problem with mine. You need to unscrew the head to release the pressure on the up and down jaws then lubricate and tap to make them go up and down. The real issue you will have sooner or later is with the brass plunger at the bottom of the handle. This is what let the air in . If it is hissing remove the handle lubricate the plunger till you get full motion and weld a piece of thin gage directly on the handle to stiffen it. Because when you dont get the tool to open and close you will push hard on the handle and bend it right where the plunger is which will limit its motion and make it worse. Been there done that. The nearest Harbor freight for me was more than 3000 miles so I had to fix it and it works great. The 7/8 for the flange is wrong the dipped part is around 5/8. &/8 is the total length of the jaw but it is only creasing half.

So just today I went out and bought my third flanger tool from Harbor Freight finally read the instruction book and noticed you have to take them apart and fill the hydraulic piston (part # 31 attached to the anvil) with oil every 3 months. Mine both were dry. I used hydraulic jack oil. And the two I thought we're broken now work and I can take the third one back

That's some great feedback and I think this has sold me on it. This occasional failure was the only thing making me consider a more expensive one.

Hey Chuck what size compressor are you using to run those tools? Maybe you could do a vid of your setup, Horsepower, CFM, Max PSI, Filters and finally the brand and how it has held up. A lot of guys show how stuff is done but not what their setup is like. The car is looking good so far keep it up.

Thanks for the reply Chuck, I guess I missed that one when I looked through your vids. That is what I was looking for as far as the compressor specs, but when you do start on the paint maybe you could show your system from the tank to the gun including: filters, dryer, hose size, pressure, type of gun etc. Definitely liking the vids and I'm a subscriber

Hi Chuck I'm from the UK I have one of those hole punches, bought it off Ebay back in January this year went to use it for the first time it won't work, I can't send it back as had it seven months now, it cost me £36.50 GBP, from what I can gather it's a harbour freight product according to what people are saying on the internet there cheap Chinese junk, that aside you say you took yours apart in your video, is there any chance you could show or tell me how to take it apart I have tried no luck so far, must doing something wrong, I have tried to find a video on KZbin but there's nothing on there many thanks Regards Tony

The person above you read the directions from the harbor freight one and there is a hydraulic piston that needs to be filled with oil every 3 months. He ended up fixing the 2 of his that were "broken" and took the 3rd one back.

Adjust the air in the tool itself, most air tools have an adjustment....
@nickopedia5669
@nickopedia5669 3 жыл бұрын
That's for impacts and the like. Most of these high speed tools, both expensive (Ingersoll Rand is what I have experience with) and cheap (Harbor freight), require a flow regulator if you want to adjust the speed or strength of them.

same with mine. piece of crap. The flange that it can do is not a quality flange. not deep enough or crisp edge

The harbor freight hole punch/ flanger is garbage! The first one I had punched about 50 holes just fine, and then wouldn’t punch any at all. Traded it in on warranty, and the new one punches holes just fine but the flanger side doesn’t close far enough to make a flange. I’m done with cheapo Chinese harbor freight garbage! I ordered a hole punch/flange tool from Eastwood. Problem solved! Some harbor freight tools are great and work like they should for a long time, and others are a complete failure! I will still buy from harbor freight, but only some tools. Other tools I will spend the money for a good one wether I use it a lot of not.

Did you adjust the flange head? Unscrew the allen on the side and twist the head clockwise and it closes the jaw.

It sounds like you need to read the instruction manual, but having something that's pre-adjusted correctly from the factory is nice if you want to spend the money.
