Ive had one of the Predator generators for years. Always fires right up and runs great. I actually bought a carb for mine and converted it to run on natural gas, propane or regular gas. So now I just hook it right up to the natural gas for my house and dont have to mess with gas. Love that.

I did the samething, $30 off Amazon and it works great. Put it on, turned on the gas and it fired right up and idles perfect. Hooked it to natural gas, and it cranked about 6 seconds and fired right up its the older 8750w generator. It powers my whole house. I have a boiler and no ac so ittt doesn't take much. Just sold it to my brother and I'm installing a generac 12k generator I got for a great price. Still natural gas so I just have to turn it on because I haven't set it up for auto start

Brilliant idea endless fuel supply Best part is you don’t have to worry about filling up your gas tank and the power come back on and being stuck with a whole tank of gas

I am a paraplegic so it's hard for me to go outside and refill the gas tank every 8 hrs. Yes ill have to go out and check the oil but it has a low oil shutdown so if it goes out in the middle of the night or anytime I'll know right away.

Have the same generator. We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where there is feet of snow and cold temps. Power outages are common. Bought the Predator 3 years ago for $700 at HF. Spent another $1000 for a electrician to set up the breaker box and have a 100 foot 8 gauge power cord. It runs our entire home, a 3200 square foot two story. We tested the load by turning on everything in the house. Only the dryer and stove don’t work as they are 220. The generator runs a well pump, our houses propane boiler, a wood boiler, and numerous electronics. Even my Mutha-in-law’s oxygen machine run! My only complaint is it is loud, but who cares when you live on 10 acres. Feel bad looking at the neighbors across the road with candles and lanterns. 😃

Ex New Hampshire here. The time I lived there NH got this kind of snowstorm every 7 years but New Englanders know how to drive snowy roads. Driving on route 95, toward Maine and 7 foot snow banks dividing north/south bound lanes. Car passes, spins out, goes up snow bank, back down snow bank and just keeps on driving. Natives know how to drive there. A real NE home has a wood stove even in upscale homes back in the day.

Does the elements ruin your generator? Rain and wind? Ice? Snow? I wonder if getting one of those tailgating style tents to put out and stake into the ground would be a better way to give my generator a longer life? I've seen some people make like generator boxes with airflow for the exhausts but what is your opinion?
@JR-of5hp
@JR-of5hp Жыл бұрын
It’s like anything else such as tractors etc. It will not only look weathered sooner but things start to rust Some things are made to be in water or high moisture will be built differently. A tarp that covers it and it’s not sealed at the ground will work. It needs air movement or it will have constant moisture from the earth I poured a 3x3 slab and make a 1” thick foam board bow to go over it with metal roofing. I can just lift the whole thing off or remove the panel on the exhaust side so that it’s a little quieter.

@@reds815 if you compare a ~10kwh portable gen with transfer switch then not comparable unless you're looking at high end generators. I don't think the cost would be all that much different for a standby generator vs LFP battery array and inverter. Trick would be triggering a small generator to act as a standby- if desired. I'm guessing a standby generator starts around 10 grand installed. If you just need to power a sub panel with critcal utilities, you will probably be ahead with the battery array and inverter.
@reds815
@reds815 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisE815 tricking the little gen is easy. I install Kohler standby gens and it's about 6grand installed for a 10kw. I want off the grid in the worst way but last time I looked about 10 years ago it was closer to 15grand for the batteries and inverter not including the solar or gen. Plus the maintenance and replacement cost of batteries to keep the system up and running wasn't cheap. The standby gens are rather efficient with the propane and the maintenance is cheap but your still locked to the grid.

People give there tools a bad wrap. Now hear me out... they don't make all there tools to take an absolute beating. Guys will buy them and try to use them like a heavy duty commercial tool. You can't, if you expect them to last. As for the generators same thing. They are just cheaper versions of the high end stuff. Remember it's 2023, you get what you pay for.
