Are you aware of the apples and oranges differences between various Central Pneumatic / Harbor Freight Purple Spray Guns? They changed the $15 gun for 2021! It's a much better gun. They also introduced a new Green gun...

These purple guns are garbage. First one I bought had a bad pattern knob. I called. They sent what was supposed to be a new gun but it wasn't. Tried to use parts off both to get good gun. Then bottom air regulator next to air hose would not work. Dont waste your money. May work for a small project but if you paint something large like a car dont buy this gun. I had to use old siphon feed gun from 28 years ago to paint my base. Beware There air regulator also did not work would always show 30 psi no matter which way I turned it until I completely closed it up and then it work. No air.

These are decent guns...you have to open it up and clean all the shitty sealer on the inside. In this case you get what you pay for. I wouldn't paint my car with it.

What size hose are u using? And what size coupler did you use to connect the hose to the air regulator?
@rob124492 жыл бұрын
Off hand I believe a 3/8 hose and 1/4 couplers, it's the common size you would find at say Harbor Freight, have not had a problem with these and I use a pretty long hose before air reaches the regulator and filter. Should make another video showing this.

Harbor Freight sells high volume coupler fittings that feature a larger inside diameter air passage. They're a little pricey compared to the standard couplers, but if you need them it's worth the investment. I found them where the air fittings and gauges are on display. They're on a card instead of being a bulk item like the standard fittings.

Personally I can either run paint in the floor or dry spray to look like sand paper. I can do ultra smooth body work tho. Little brother can shoot ultra smooth. I've bought him several Devillivist ($pelling) , Binks , Sharps brands of guns. When I get him to shoot something for me I'll pick up one of these. He makes it look beautiful. I'm doubting he could use a Mason jar with a homemade siphon and do a beautiful paint job , most of it has to do with who is pulling the trigger. Afterwards we clean them and he uses them for shooting primer.

Thanks for the info on the "Purple" guns. I looked at my gun that had #62300 on the box and bought about a year ago. The 1.4 nozzle had the improved extra holes and the longer housing, but no tool to remove the fluid nozzle, (the black part) so I'm going to make a wrench as you advise to remove it. My older gun, #67181 on the box, seems to be a hybrid, still no wrench in the box, but it has the improved 1.4 nozzle as the newer gun, but the shorter housing. I haven't used either gun, they're still new in the box, but it should be interesting to compare the spray patterns between the two. Once I remove the black fluid nozzle, the comparison should be interesting.

Today I went to Harbor Freight looking for the NEW purple gun that Rob compares in this video. That's the one with the fluid cap with 9 holes, and made of a material with a brassy color. (I already owned the older one, labeled 62300 on the box, but have never used it). All the boxes they had for the low priced gun had the number 62300 printed on the box. In some other video, I had heard another number (67181) for the NEW gun. So I asked a HFT manager if they had the 67181 gun. His computer said they had something like 30 or so, but when he looked in his actual stock, they were all marked 63200. So I asked permission to open the box marked 63200. I found the new fluid tip that Rob describes, the different looking metal, and the greater number of holes, consistent with what he refers as the newer model. Unfortunately, there's no tool included to remove the fluid tip. So tomorrow I'll go to a bicycle shop looking for a "cone wrench", which is designed for a very similar narrow slot, as Rob describes. I'll be surprised if they have any in SAE sizes. If they don't, I'll have to do what he did to his 3/4" open end wrench. In my mind, it's irresponsible of HFT to not provide the special tool to dismantle the gun for cleaning - duuuhhhhh. BTW, Harbor Freight doesn't seem to sell such a tool...what are they thinking? So the bottom line is that a slightly different gun has the same item number, 62300, as the older gun.

Correction: meant to write 62300: "they were all marked 63200", apologies!

take two larger diameter finish nails, put one in the slot on each side, and then put an adj wrench on the outside of the nails. Instant spanner wrench.

I heard that the fluid nozzle is left hand thread on the green gun. If you want a pro gun for around 100 bucks get a Euro pro HE the blue one 1.3 tip. Ive got 8 guns hanging in the garage . You cant beat that blue Euro pro Summit has them. better than the spider and for less than half the money.
@rob124492 жыл бұрын
no left hand threads on green gun. thanks for tip about euro pro he.

I've been using the Astro Pneumatic Euro Pro, as well. Great guns. I have the HE in 1.3 and 1.5 and I have the green hvlp version in 1.3. I bought the green one first because everyone was out of stock on the HE 1.3. Haven't quite figured out the hvlp. The blue HE guns seem easier to dial in. I have a few purple HF guns that I use for some smaller jobs. I recently used it on an engine bay and it turned out nice.

any problem with the little plastic screen filter? ive heard it said the gun works better without it - but you must strain-filter your paint well, before pouring into gun....
@rob124493 ай бұрын
I think it depends on the paint, if it is thin I guess they can be helpful in blocking a clump from reaching the nozzle and clogging gun, but if paint is thick I think it can restrict the flow which is not good. all kinds of opinions on these. filtering before adding to gun is a no risk beneficial alternative but the little filter can be cleaned, although some people say they can not. I guess I would conclude that if i was spraying a lot of paint I would use a paper filter, but if it was a test spray or something not very important I'd definitely consider the plastic gun filter.

I gues there listening to the customers❤ I drilled the Orifice dim....5/64. - 2mm. Have two guns one is the pricier one as it has the multi wrench a big plus. Drilling the orfice will allow you to run thicker paint so you dont weaken the glues. Im keeping my other gun as is for oils, furniture doors etc. Nice to know they upgraded the cheaper unit!! Thanks!

Rob, I'm grateful for your comparison of these two Harbor Freight spray guns. I have what seems to be the older one, based on the number of holes in the fluid tip (mine has 6 holes - the one you show has 9). I've never used my gun, but now have a project for it, so I've started to learn how to use it. In the process, I've discovered (thanks to your video) that there's no wrench in the box I have. Do you remember if you got a wrench with the older gun? If you did, I will try to get HFT to replace mine with the new one in order too get the wrench if it's supposed to be included.
@rob124492 жыл бұрын
I think the older one may have come with the wrench, I'm certain the new one does not come with it.

Know that drilling out to 5/64 the inside hole where the needle shuts it off will get you spraying primer or water based acrylic (thinned with about 5% water). videos showing this...

@@rob12449 A curious thing related to the slightly different model you tested (refer to my previous comment two months ago): At that time, I had specifically looked for the "updated" purple gun at Harbor Freight. I asked a manager, he found something in the computer that said he had those in stock, and actually, they were in the box marked 62300. This was exactly the one you described, and different than the 62300 I had bought a couple years ago. The "updated" gun I bought in April failed for reasons that might be me, or the paint I used, or might be the gun, so I took it back for free replacement ( I had agreed to the extra charge for that). While explaining the subtle differences to the uninformed store employee, I got permission to open the box in her presence to see which version it was. Turned out to be the OLDER one, nozzle parts are chrome/silver color, and fewer holes on the spray tip. Box still says 63200.
@rob124492 жыл бұрын
@@garymoon2829 I'm not surprised that it can be so darn confusing. I'm surprised that the older version is still in circulation! Wow! It is so crazy that they did not change the part number so we can imagine how confusing this can be, imagine replacement parts. I guess maybe I'd look in the other boxes? Or try a different store? If you are in an area that has multiple outlets.

I saw the guy in the Speedkote videos he had multiple vehicles parked outside he might be doing that but don't know for sure but it be I sure would like to do that.
