It always breaks my heart remembering the tragic story of Aardman's warehouses being burnt on the night of this movie's premiere, losing most of the studio's previous works. Aardman truly earned the Academy Award for Best Animated Film after such a giant loss.

The reason I know Curse of the Were-Rabbit aged well is because I watched it for the first time this year in my twenties, and I had a blast.

Curse of the Were-Rabbit was on TV yesterday! It's hilarious. All Wallace and Gromit films stand up to the most minute scrutiny regardless of how old they are. I've been a fan ever since the first one.

Curse of the Were Rabbit has become one of my favourite films of all time. It’s aged very well, with so much charm, humour, and creativity. The score is tremendous, and most importantly of all it maintains the spirit of Wallace and Gromit on a cinematic scale which could’ve easily been lost. Can’t wait for Vengeance Most Fowl.

I'd just like to say how gorgeous the lighting in this film is, it perfectly captures a natural look of live action film lighting from its time, before the wide availability of LED and RGB lighting we now have, which means a lot of lights start with a white-ish source that's then filtered, which adds a kind of natural imperfection that we don't see that often with modern lighting (that doesn't mean LED and RGB lighting is bad, it's great and way more versatile, but there's a certain look to older lighting that I miss)

Despite being "second generation" Thunderbirds (I saw it - and the other related series - first in the 1970s), and still loving the whole genre, Wallace and Gromit beats it hands down.

@@y_fam_goeglyd I wouldn't really agree to that. Especially given how influential Gerry Anderson's shows like Thunderbirds were on Japanese media for instance (and the likes of Star Wars). Or that Wallace and Gromit pays a number of homages to it.
@AbrasiousProductions4 күн бұрын
the soundtrack here is very powerful too, if you took the visuals and dialogue out of the scene where the vicar warns of the were-rabbit and just listened to the soundtrack alone, you'd think it was from a real classic universal horror film, it's even a bit bone chilling to listen to without the absurdist context.
@abisnow18435 күн бұрын
I feel like the fact that Aardman are proudly Yorkshire with settings that show that off is part of the charm. One of the best jokes in a matter of loaf and death is when Gromit has the bomb and he goes to one window, ducks in a pond, goes to another window, nuns with kittens, finally he sees “Yorkshire border - keep out” and decides to throw the bomb there. The accents are authentic because they cast people like northern comedian Peter Kay as the police officer, and of course the late great Peter Sallis as Wallace, which sounds so homely to me because the villagers sound like *my* neighbours. The celebrity voices of Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes are the exception as their accents are more “upper class”. It also became a point of contention between Aardman and Dreamworks because Dreamworks wanted them to turn down the authentic Yorkshire accents so they’d be more universally understood. They wanted members of the cast to tone down their natural accents (in a few cases). This is one thing that eventually led to the breakdown of this relationship because Aardman were steadfast in that no, this is how we are doing this film. It is so hard to imagine this film without the Yorkshire accents. Idk I definitely agree with them because there aren’t many major films released internationally that are so unashamedly Yorkshire. The only other that comes to mind right now is the Railway Children. Anyway. Great video, great movie, icon of my childhood, etc.

They're lancastrian. It's meant to be set in Wigan and Nick Park himself is from Preston. But there's lots of northern nods as shown in AVMF

I saw this film for the first time in a cinema in Prague. I honestly wondered what any Czech people would make of this film...... I can't imagine it travels well. But luckily, being British. It's cram packed with puns, and references.

When i went to see curse of the were-rabbit for the first time, the audience started applauding once the end credits started. It truly felt like everyone fully realised what a huge achievement this film is. It really feels like nowadays there are not many reasons to feel proud to be british - but aardman definitely is a reason to be proud.

Wallace and Gromit have rightly assumed the crown that once belonged to Morecambe and Wise; that crown being The Kings of Christmas. Absolute genius and the most wonderful comedy. Glorious return, long live the kings!

Unfortunately, I'm scarred by this brilliant movie. The scene of Wallace mind-melding with Hutch - the way his eyes bulge - and the transformations... I just can't watch it. It's probably the film that scares me most, which is ridiculous. Way scarier than the Empty Child mask transformation I also saw in 2005.

It never made sense to be that there was Wererabbit lore before Wallace turned into one via science. Like, did someone happen to do the same experiment hundreds of years ago? How?
@davidbray59828 күн бұрын
It seems in the Wallace and Gromit universe, it is possible for a human and a rabbit to combine into a ware-rabbit. Wallace achieved this through scientific means, but who's to say it couldn't occur naturally?
@thehaymaker36608 күн бұрын
@davidbray5982 If it could occur naturally, it would be a lot more common, not just an old legend. Like, if you disregard the invention the process is just man, a rabbit and the light of the full moon. Not exactly a rare occurrence.
