I still find it wild how Disney released a movie that was about a spoiled rich kid with almost zero redeeming qualities attacking a down on their luck middle class family for no good reason and then tried to pass it off as a family comedy.

Home Alone 2 always feels like a great example of a sequel mirroring beats from the previous film but adding to/building from it and not just repeating the greatest hits. Also felt like a win for Kevin that his family have more fun in New York, even if he gets in trouble for committing credit fraud.

@@samamies88 Yeah it's effectively the same movie, but with Kevin having experience from the first. This time he baits the villains into his trap, because as previously demonstrated, they're idiots who can be bested by an actual child. What makes it great is the cast and the score, and the relatable, real characters he experiences in a setting that people know from tv and cinema before it. Home Alone 2 is the better movie and it's a hill I'll happily die on.

This reminds me of the Land Before Time, an awesome first film by Don Bluth, followed by schlocky sequel after schlocky sequel. In addition, each LBT sequel there was, the more kid friendly it got, as the colours got brighter and the dialogue more saccharine, far removed from the original, which was harsh, gritty yet it had heart, you wanted to see how Littlefoot and the other dinos reach the Great Valley, after getting there the story was effectively over, but that didn't stop Universal from shoveling out thirteen sequels without Don Bluth, the LBT pioneered shovel content. I gotta admit, there's something macabre and surreal that Kevin is Married to Anne Boonchuy, Hollyweird strikes again.

So glad I'm not the only one who prefers the second Home Alone movie to the first. I'm just a sucker for holiday movies/tv shows set in NYC.

Mac's guest appearances on Red Letter Media have redeemed him in my eyes and I no longer hold his childhood movies against him There's not even a joke here, it's just what is

I want a whole movie with “I don’t know what that means… sir I’m not a woman in tech.” She’s unironically the only likeable and relatable character in that one

The third one will always be my favorite, I have no trouble rewatching it every few years. The first two I kinda liked. The fourth I really disliked and I can't believe they made more after that.

Ok hear me out. In the fifth movie, they could have made the /house\ seem haunted. Random doors opening that never existed Maybe the inside of the \house\ is longer than the outside of the /house/

Cool fact: The gag with the snow blower in Home Alone 3 was originally written for, and cut out of, Home Alone 2. Home Alone 2 was originally supposed to open with a PTSD dream sequence from Marv about him and Harry being attacked by Kevin again, and the final shot was Marv lunging at a vaguely human-shaped thing he thinks is Kevin, which causes the snow blower (it was a lawn mower in the original, but I'll say snow blower) to fall on Marv's head. It would have then cut to black, and Marv would have woken up in jail, thankful that he wasn't dead. So, yeah, Home Alone 2 could have been a lot darker. This version of the opening was included in the novelization of the movie, which used an early version of the movie's script as its basis. Also, Home Alone 4 was intended to be the pilot episode of a Home Alone TV series. I don't even know how that would have worked.

I can't imagine a Home Alone TV series. How do you create ongoing scenarios where the kid is left at home by himself week after week? At some point the question becomes: where's child protective services?
