SMALL SCREEN PLEASE.
I'm really happy that we don't have to wear corsets and crinoline dresses anymore, but it looks beautiful.
Music: see at the end of the video.

This is a stunningly beautiful video. It depicts all the beautiful elements of femininity! I have sewn period pieces and worn them for over 50 yrs and LOVE IT. I had to rewatch this video many times. It is a perfect display of the joy of being a lady that has been lost on the new generation but is enjoying a resurgence with today's young ladies. To put on one of these dresses, with all the accouterments, is a transforming experience. If the corset fits, it does not hurt at all. Once a lady puts on these garments, she feels beautiful from the inside out. Thank you for making it.

You do realize that these were just examples of the moderate to extremely wealthy working women wore corsets and it wasn’t like they were killing them ( unless they tight laced there corsets to an extreme level) most of these movies/ TV shows are only trying to portray an picture of a past when women were completely oppressed

Yes, it was not suppose to hurt, not like it was shown in Pirate of the Carraiben with Elizabeth in the first movie. If it was too tight, it was purely for personnal beauty standard or probably some pression.

Tightlacing was not even possible before metal grommets & steel busks (which were not invented before the mid-late 19th c) - you would have ruined the bodice/ stays/ corset in one wear, if you were to yank at them the way they show in movies/ shows...
@bettierusso5410

@@OcarinaSapphr- I am afraid you are wrong on that count. I have been a professional seamstress specializing in "period" dress for over 45+ years. The average corset of the 17th -19th century either had no boning or natural boning. There were corsets in early history made out of steel. It was used, and a few still survive. These were used to support heavy winter garments and medical use. (I reference a book called; The Corset Question) reinforced by many layers of heavy fabric (cotton duck, twill, and maybe a brocade on the outside for looks). A corset can be VERY supportive, even when "tight-laced" if sewn properly and with many rows of carefully placed stitching and padding. Whalebone, & willow reeds were also used. If a corset is made by an expert and is made to personally fit the wearer, they DO NOT HURT. If a corset causes pain, it does not fit, or the wearer does not have it properly laced with a support garment under it. You are correct in your observation regarding Hollywood's portrayal of corsetry, but they are extremely comfortable if made properly and fit the wearer who knows how to properly don one.

@@bettierusso5410 I’m sorry, I’m confused- were you replying to me? I was saying that any scenes of tightlacing, prior to the mid-late 19th c (ie. PotC, Bridgerton, & other such movies/ shows showing tightlacing **before** the existence of either the technology, *or* the ‘fashion’ for it) were inaccurate, because the technology didn’t exist; if you yank at fabric, especially that which doesn’t have reinforcement, it’s going to warp/ break. I also don’t think people would have been ‘tightening’ the few metal ‘bodices’, would they? They would have only been a stable framework for the gowns, wouldn’t they? I ask because I don’t know a lot about the earlier ones. I’m very well aware that the predecessors of corsets were naturally boned bodices, or stays with things like reed, or whalebone- & thus not restrictive - & if well made for, & seasoned with the wearer- were perfectly comfortable & supportive. I sometimes believe that there are three issues at play with actors in period costumes; one: the wrong type of undergarments are being used (how many times have you seen a generic Victorian-esque ‘corset’ in an era where they didn’t belong?) - two: actresses are almost certainly not given the time to wear in their costumes, or someone *has* tight laced them for no reason, thus, they obviously have a bad time of it - & three: I can’t help but wonder if our bodies, used to more relaxed posture, & things like squishier furniture & such- don’t play a part in people saying they’re uncomfortable in something like a corset, or boned bodice- because they automatically aid a person’s posture, & people might be taken aback by clothes doing that? I’ve also noticed with some of the KZbin channels that I’m subscribed to- many period clothes are designed/ constructed very differently; things like shoulder seams being set further back, which also has an effect on posture... I do thank you for the information, & I’m sorry if you misinterpreted anything I said- I’m not any kind of expert on the subject...

Hi, thank you for your kind comment. I'm happy you like it. The scene at 0:58 is from the movie "Marie Antoinette" by Sofia Coppola with Kirsten Dunst. You have excellent eyes!! I must have seen this scene a hundred times, when I edited it. I've never noticed the Chucks before. They must have been a little joke by Sofia Coppola.
