One thing that will help you tremendously is cleaning the milscale off the metal before you weld, it runs a lot smoother, looks better, and it won’t spatter as much so you won’t burn your shirts up. This is coming from a stick welder who’s been burned a shit ton

Keep up the good work bro... I work in the weld shop for the studios out here in Los Angeles and all we do pretty much is 16 gauge square/rectangular tubing on the MIG gun (the frames for stages, sets & etc.) Since I'm not full time in the shop I've been attending welding school the past two years and getting ready for my D1.1 in stick and then flux (then 6G after that). Your videos are badass man. I'm pretty much over the BS politics working for the studios so that's why I'm going full steam ahead learning structural D1.1. I appreciate the hard work you do man and the dope videos man! And noticed the Sellstrom flip front adapter 👍🏻. Picking mine up Monday when it arrives at my local AirGas. Keep up the good work bro!

Not sure if anyone has answered yet, but a lot of CWB (Canadian welding bureau) weld tests require you to have two stops in the root passes. Atleast when I did my all position stick and Flux core, one stop 3/4 of the way on your 90 degree side and one stop 1/4 of the way on your bevel side. Both of those stopstarts get bent as root tests to test your tie-in ability and a third coupon gets bent from the middle of the weld piece as a face bend. love the content! keep it up

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to achieve the higher end of the pay scale you will "Rig Out". Truck, tools and machine. If you're not interested in that you can certainly become a "Single Hand" welder. You only required to bring a hood, gloves and essential PPE as the later of the two. Hope this helps.

@BadassWeldingVideos6 жыл бұрын
yeah, they need to plug into a power source, (generator or buzz box) we are usually on over 100ft of lead, so the machine is around the corner a ways (or i may be using a buzz box... i dont remember). and yes, those wire feeders are damn near bullet proof, there are a few weak spots on the gun (where it connects to the box) but all the parts are easily replaced glad you enjoy, thanks for watchin

with how much they stress cleaning the mill scale off in school, then seeing you not clean any off or even use a wire brush on your welds , how important is it really for these welds?
@BadassWeldingVideos3 жыл бұрын
If you can't make a good weld on clean steel, than you are doing something wrong. The skill become a factor on being able to make a good weld in less than perfect conditions. This iron came from Canada during the biggest snow st1orm of the year and was covered in road salt. It had permeated every nook and cranny. You could grind every surface visible and accessible with a grinder and would still get defects detected by PT or they eye. So at a point I decided since I had to go back and do repairs regardless the amount of prep, to just skimp and do the repairs. Many chose to prep all surfaces, my production was twice that of theirs. I even received recognition on that job for the quality and quantity of welds on that job, as well as that job getting "job of the year" awarded by the ABC
@calikalbocalikalbo60822 жыл бұрын
It's not important at all as you will never see a welder in the field cleaning it unless it's super thick and flaky or rust.

@repalmore8 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Warner I wasn't working on the pipeline when I was welding in Alaska. Honestly it's really hard living up in Alaska. I loved it when I was there but unless you have something going first, you'd best find something close to home. If you want to weld pipeline, get welding rig setup and start working local as a mobile welder then when a pipe job comes up, go take your test and if you pass, your in on your first job. How do you hear about pipe jobs. Contact pipeline contractors and ask them to put you on the mailing list if they have it or call every month. Google for the list of pipe contracting companies. After a few years pipeline welding you might hear of a job up in Alaska. You are your best resource. Best of luck.

If he welded that per drawing then the engineer messed up and if a CWI inspected he is an idiot. You can't run a bead underneath like that and tie it in. So not to code, and as a CWI I would never let him get away with that if I was inspecting. Also wrong about the WPS as per-qualified materials, gas and filler are predetermined as per AWS D1.1so the contractor dosen't have a choice as far as what to use. BTW they make something called leathers and they have been around a long time so people won't burn their clothes up.
