Your rod angle look like you were pushing the electrode instead of dragging it. I usually drag the rod toward me and hold it at a 75 degree angle. This way I can see the workpiece and get good penetration. Get more arc shots next time. The most important part of welding is the timing and electrode to work gap.

@johnw.peterson43114 жыл бұрын
Never tack, start, stop, or connect a weld in a corner, why? Because it is almost impossible to remove all the slag and if x- rayed you WILL have slag inclusion thus failing to weld to standard. How to avoid this? Start your root knowing you must weld through all corners before breaking arc and plan accordingly.
@acyclictiger4 жыл бұрын
what do you mean? isnt the slag gonna be the same if it was in the middle of the bead or of it was in the start/finish :/? and some people told me to tack the ends so It can absorb more heat. but can you please explain, thanks :D
@ramiroperales59344 жыл бұрын
You can start the wrap around first. And run the bead to tie in and if you're good enough with tie ins it won't be noticeable it'll look like a complete bead.
@gavinboucher41662 жыл бұрын
I believe fillet welds do not get x-rayed and full pen moments get visual inspected under 3/8 thick and over would be the xray inspection per aisc standards for structural welding.
@johnw.peterson43112 жыл бұрын
Fillet welds do in fact get x- rayed. In addition, a visual inspection is a totally separate issue. That stated , welds can be deemed a failure if not to visual standard and/ or if a failure to x- Ray inspection depending on weld criteria needed.
@gavinboucher41662 жыл бұрын
@@johnw.peterson4311 From my own experience as an ironworker those are the rules we follow for the jobs I've worked. What kinda fillet welds do you weld that get inspected with xray curious.

But the heat is all part of it to
