You're statistically more likely to be injured or killed on an amusement park ride than traveling via train with wings that may or may not have parts flying off in the air.

My late husband used to help put carnival rides together at the county fair. After that he never went on another ride! Not after seeing how they were “held together.” Or the lack thereof.

I went on my last carnival ride because I was shut in my car (it was a zipper ride) and bolts were just falling off in front of my eyes. I tried to get the (definitely “altered”) operator to let me off and he laughed and started the ride. Never again!

Ahh yes the Oaks Park incident... the Wife and I was going to take our rug rats their that day but Life happened and we didn't go. Had we have gone I can almost guarantee without any uncertainty that our two oldest would have been stuck on that ride just hanging out for those 20 min. Then afterwards they would never want to go to another amusement park ever again. While our youngest would have been quite upset that she wasn't on the ride with her older siblings...

Nope, I’m with you DBV. While I’m not afraid of heights per say, I’m not overly enthralled with the idea of being stuck in an “unusual” position with no immediately obvious way of returning to something that resembles “normality”. Whatever that may be 🤔 I may possibly venture onto dodgems, or even a boat ride, that doesn’t climb silly mountains, but anything else is a hard pass. You’ll most likely find me getting a bacon bap or a doughnut.

I know it seems crazy, but as an ex-carney, I know that all traveling rides such as this one usually go through a vigorous set of inspections weekly by city, state, and federal regulators. This had too have been one of the fairly few incidents that can happen during the operation of any moving machinery. You take a worse risk in your car on a daily endeavor to the gas pump. Though I still don't ride rides do too an inner ear problem

One time we got on the ferris wheel with the cages that rotate forward and back. In line behind us were two cute girls. The guy running the ride was clearly very interested in engaging with the girls and maybe rushed us onto the ride. He forgot to unlock the rotation of our cage. Then proceeded to spin us to the very top of the wheel, while he took extraordinary time and care with the young ladies. We were stuck upside down and couldn't unlock the rotation on our cage. That day I discovered it's nearly impossible to scream while in the upside down position.

I have always heard that Carnival rides are safer than amusement park rides due to the constant disassembly and reassembly making any defects found. Dunno if it's true, but sounds good to me. I guess what I am saying is I would trust a Carnie with misspelled tattoos more than a 17 year old pot head with a summer job at a park.

Actually, the disassembly/reassembly makes it more likely parts will get lost or bent out of shape. Also, time is money, so they slap those suckers together as quickly as possible. And let's not talk about how well anchored those travelling rides are (not).

People would be shocked to know how many people are injured or killed on rides like this every year. The regulators are paid off and the management of them is lax due to greed. I know, I had a friend that ran one of them and he was always afraid it would happen to his. So much so after his complaints were never addressed, he quit. 3days later a child was hit by a broken line and the ride came back on emergency brakes. The lawsuit is yet to be settled but the family will get a big compensation check soon. Thankfully the child looks like he will recover after a year or two of corrective surgeries.

I usto love the rides in the 70s and 80's. Especially the viking ship and the swings there were like the ones on the playground except twrild really fast and got you off the ground about 15-20 feet. And the roller costers. I was a big strong kid. I had just got off the swings and got on a roller coaster. At a permanent park in fl. Well the latch popped off the safty bar. I wrapped my arms around it and pushed up with my legs to keep it in place. Think God it was a old one that didn't loop or get really crazy. After i got off. Saw one of the chains pop lose on one of the swings. Luckily there was no one in that one. So no one got hurt. But that was enough for me. No more rides. Then later found out the parks were no where as exciting as house clearing anyway. Lol

We actually raised our kids without going on those kinds of rides. We would take them to a local park that we knew that the rides are inspected regularly because it's a local business. But those overnight set ups? No. Even as adults now, they still won't go on them because they can now see for themselves.
