I've had some 3 year queens. I have one right now that came in a swarm in 2020, so I've had her 3 years, and I expect she overwintered, so thinking she's 4 years. She was laying sheets of brood this year. I raised some queens off her. Will be interesting to see how they perform.

Have you looked into planting long-blooming perennials on the edges? I have catmint from Proven Winners. It blooms March to October. I can’t keep the bees out of it to trim it. I also have an ornamental spring onion that is not as well loved, but blooms continuously.

Get Muck Boot man ! Best things ever to keep feet warm and DRY, tuck the pant legs in. Plus a little cedarwood EO around the bottom keeps the ticks off . you get sweaty legs if it is in the 30's Cº but way better in my mind

Oxytet mixed with icing sugar. Once the escape is placed, the honey boxes are removed from the activity of the nest as the bees move down and clear the boxes out

I’m dusting them with oxytet (bacterial medicine) to protect the apiary from any sick EFB colonies that I may have missed. Anything that has been weakened will be prone to getting robbed out now. It’s mixed with icing sugar.

@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog I somehow got AFB this year.... First case in new Jersey in 2 years. Burned 9 hives. I will apply Terra to control potential spread as well but so far all looks good. I got quite the education this year , the hard way.
