After how many failed attempts and not being able to see the recovery screen, I ended up remembering my pattern lock. At least no data was lost.

Have owned less than 48 hrs. Was greeted with blue-screen saying "do not turn off target" and stuck "downloading". Evidently it interrupted its own bios/software update corrupting the boot sector. Can't reset, get Android 'Error' and it returns to the "do not turn off target" screen. Tried this 50+ times --- returning it. This has to be a software bug.

Have all the options except factory reset, goes from apply update to wipe cache, no factory reset in between
