I drew an off range Oryx hunt in New Mexico .. it was for a month long in August. I do know the area pretty good from years of hunting coyotes and even catching a lion out there. The summer can be brutal out here in the desert and the name "Jornada Del Muerto" fits .. Journey of death. We did think we might die time we got back to the truck. Day light till dark over 100 degree weather but with the help of my nephew we were successful.

Excellent job of following up on less that desirable shot placement! I was blessed to take two when I lived in NM one off range & one on a badge hunt. Double tough animal to hunt off range and tougher to kill! Congratulations!

This was a fantastic hunt for an African ( I think antelope family). But very neat you can draw this great hunt, some pay thousands to go hunt these. Congratulations on your animal way to track down and finish him. God bless Born 100 Years To Late for sharing this with us all. Great stuff my friend 👍🇺🇸

Thanks .. yes they imported them onto the White Sands Missile Range and they really did good and spread out off of the range .. this was what they call an off range hunt .. they use to be pretty easy to hunt years ago but they have got smart here lately.. I know this desert pretty good so I found a few of them .. I sure didn't make a very good shot first time but we did get him ... again thanks for watching the videos !

Glad you found him Brett. I hate tracking a wounded animal. Such a relief when you find them. Theres a guy here claims his mule will track wounded game and bray like a treed hound. I guess when they are dead. He supposedly turns it loose like a dog. Braying on a wounded one that can still go wouldn't help. I have not seen it done. Just heard about it. Don't doubt it though. I could tell when one of my mules smelled a bear years ago. He'd chased them so much and wasn't scared of them.

I need a blood tracking mule lol If I keep shooting like that ... I did consider getting one of the hounds but it was so hot out ... My Jet mule always let me know when there was a bear close by but he sure didn't want to go to them lol Thanks Greg !

Great persistence on tracking that animal down. I am surprised the hunting season is scheduled in such heat ? Must be a reason . A rush to the cooler with the meat….. I love that .270 country, Ya can see way out there…A great video and education for the nephew ! Thanks Brett. 👍🏻🤠

Interesting topic to possibly cover is How to Preserve the Meat in such temperatures? I'm from VA and usually hunt in 0 degree to 40 degrees. Can't imagine doing it in 100 degrees. I have heard several complaints about Sambar deer meat from Florida being really poor due to the higher temps during hunting season. Personally the best meat I have ever had is Sika, but then I've never had Oryx.
