Stones are the worst thing you can use to make a pond. They trap waste, trash, debris, algae.... they make cleaning a nightmare. Nobody who makes a pond does this, unless you want to be draining it several times a year for cleaning.

There is a genuine risk of the wall being undermined. This plus the water pouring between the stones when they start filling the pond at 26:16 doesn't look encouraging. That cause a threat to the house nearby.

First of all it is a pond, not a lake, but most important, how do you spell "disaster" in Chinese? It is clear that it was nothing calculated, researched or any forethought put on this. I estimate a 1-2 years life before the water pressure will crack the bottom, and create a sinkhole. Looks great, but the damage will be exceptionally expensive. SMH

They must have realized at one point that they couldn't go back but must continue. All that labor, time and resources pretty much wasted because they could have just dug it out and filled it with water!
@bigredc2222 жыл бұрын
I think they aren't used to having disposable income, so they wanted to build something to show they have money, but it's all new to them, it may be the closest thing to a private built in swimming pool in the whole country. What do you think?
@examplerkey2 жыл бұрын
@@bigredc222 It depends, I mean some people there have more disposable income than us in the West. I really don't understand though the point of this pond/lake. First, they didn't need to kill those banana trees!! The house isn't that great either, so to make the pond stands out is really pointless. Once filled with water, you can't see all that hard work anymore, worse yet, give it a year or two until the moss, algae, leaves, dust and other stuffs that will have claimed the bed rock they put in there. They're not gonna go down there with a toothbrush to clean all the rocks! That'd be even more stupid. It can drown a toddler, pet or even a person. The water's not treated, so you're not gonna swim in it and that concrete wall kills everything. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they built it as a reservoir for the fields nearby. Even then you don't need to put in that much effort. I just don't get it.
@bigredc2222 жыл бұрын
@@examplerkey I think they saw a picture of a pool or jacuzzi made from river stone, and hired these guys to build one not having any idea what it takes to build and upkeep an in-ground pool. I searched in-ground pools in china, all I could find was public pools, I got on google maps, I couldn't find one house with a pool. I think they think that's an in-ground pool, or water feature, and don't realize it's going to turn into green slime with a million mosquitos. If anyone reads this that's been to China, I'd like to know if people in China have private swimming pools. I may be totally wrong, it's just a theory.

When we looked for land I purposely looked for a hilly valley area where I could damn deep for a small lake. It’s 25 ft deep tapering to 2-1 off the bank depending. Massive channels and bluegills for days. With maybe 30 or so 3-12pb bass. Any bass under 3lbs is cleaned with the bluegill and catfish.
