I've never thought to set it up at all. For me it was usually reacting to someone else moving forward and me feeling the cage/wall/ropes behind me and me bouncing off of it behind my fist. Doing it in open space or luring someone into it are both neat ideas that weren't really on my radar. It's an awesome way to reposition with a wrecking ball at the front, but I thought it was just something that you could make happen when everyone's movement lined up and you had something to spring off of.

I've heard the superman punch called "kradot chok" or "cobra punch" as the 'muay thai' name for it, which I like more than "superman punch". It's not supposed to be a big and powerful punch like superman, it's a sneaky technique that lashes out suddenly off a fake.

Back in MCT, we were having 4v4 boxing matches where we put our four biggest guys together for the sole purpose of destroying some guys we don't like. They charged at each other and the tallest one performed the most beautiful superman punch you've ever seen, leaping in the air and dropping this poor dude harder than you've ever seen someone drop. It was gorgeous.
@Frank941
@Frank941 Жыл бұрын
I do a switch step before I launch into a superman punch. I am short, so I use it to cover distance. I get such an air time that I can jab or fake the jab as I am moving through the air before throwing the right or even better, push the opponent’s guard down before throwing the right. It’s perfect for catching a bigger guy that has a tendency to lean back to avoid punches. I know what you’re going to say, launching yourself forward headfirst is a good way to get knocked out, but my head is way above their shoulders and my body is almost vertical, so there’s not much to hit.
@NateNateNate5678
@NateNateNate5678 Жыл бұрын
Another thing to add to your point about why it's relevant to fake them out with the kick first- even if they Don't drop their hand to reach for the kick and they do something as simple as lifting their lead leg to check the kick, for a split second, most of their weight is now shifted onto their rear leg. Even if they block the punch, you basically are giving yourself the chance to land a strike against a person who's now mostly standing on one leg, which can throw off a person's defense Significantly by disrupting their balance. So to add to your comically abusive point about physically and psychologically abusing people, I will add that it's also better to hit people who only have one leg, as opposed to 2. Gaslighting and beating up handicapped people is what we do here 👍🏽

Recently been hitting that punch a lot more because of my sparring partner trying to catch the low kick. Now I don't mind that but what I mind is that he then proceeds to dump me on the floor even tho we are going super light. So I once or twice get a little bit more "umpf" behind it. Yes; you're using that lower body momentum to lever your upper body forward. Kind of like how with a cross you pull your lead side back to help throw your rear hand forward.
@ninjafruitchilled
@ninjafruitchilled Жыл бұрын
It depends how you do it. Like imagine for a minute you are in space, no gravity. Newton's laws, conservation of momentum. Throwing your leg back helps to push your arm forward. So it's helping, if you are momentarily airborne, or at least light on your feet. Normally it's better to be grounded so you can push off the ground to generate power, but this is a different method that works when you *aren't* well grounded.

This works EXTREMELY well if you're someone that likes to kick. I'd go as far as to say this technique has the highest success of being undefended for me personally. I agree so strongly with having to hurt your opponent to make them worry about your technique first. I see pro fighters throw light feelers or fakes very... unconvincingly and I think to myself, "The opponent (if their good) is just going to power through those lazy fakes." and often they do. If you do damage first, those fakes or half techniques feel like more of a threat.

The superman punch is a kickers punch. It's a threat chain string. Lowkick/teep in the long range and then knee if they close distance. The superman punch comes out of the string if they try to use distance to dodge the teep/lowkick feints. Finally, some redemption. I was told I was overthinking things by learning and applying like this in training with ultra formal algorithms. Its so much easier to train moves like this. I hated the old school mentality of looking for tough people and just putting on a lot of ineffecient training on them. You should take smart people and make them tough by saddling them with ultra high mental load teachings that will allow them to train efficiently and as close to theoretical optimum. A sport isn't good when it's dominated by early adopters who are only winning through grit, heart and determination. A sport is good when it requires multiple generations of practitioners to produce both a mind and body sharp enough to be in competitive running.
