This is freaking sick!! I’ve got a wonderswan color I’ve been wanting to mod and now seeing games in English makes me want to do it now
@novamaster02 жыл бұрын
Small mistake here. In American we only got Chocobo's Dungeon 2 (1998JP/1999NA) the Sequel to this game. Chocobo's Dungeon 1 (1997) for PS1 & Wonderswan (1999) were never released in English. It's a similar plot, mechanics, etc, but officially they are two separate games.

You said the prices of the English patched cartridges are good but man's asking $100 to $120 usd lol. No way.
@aliceinmansonland4482 жыл бұрын
Emulation is the way I Swan. You can set the controls to match the device, and there's lots of English translations available for patching. It's no GBA, but you can play Clock Tower in Black and White giving it a classic horror film feel. The Final Fantasy games are good, and the Megaman/Rockman ports are pretty good.

I think the klonoa game looks the most interesting, I wonder how it is compared to the gba port (I only own the 1st gba game) but the 1st gba klonoa game is super solid! Great video man, stuff like this really adds to the retro gaming community 🤘

It’s worth learning Japanese for all the cool exclusive tech Afaik Apple even made a exclusive PowerBook only for Japan
@andrewwilson4733 Жыл бұрын
easier said then done haha
@JaredConnell Жыл бұрын
Yes the 2400c was the powerbook made by ibm japan and only sold in that market. However I don't think most people would learn japanese just so they can play a few video games. There are multiple writing styles with thousands of characters, all of which are much different that standard roman characters we use in English so there is no starting base for trying to learn to read the language, let alone speak it. I wish it were much easier but for now I, along with many others, will just have to lean on the shoulders of the awesome people like those featured in this video who make fan made translations available to the rest of us who don't have the time to learn another language just for video games.

Hey Tony! Enjoyed the video! I've been interested in possibly exploring the Wonder Swan. I think it's really worth considering in future videos like this the fan translation ethics part of this. From the handful of fan translators I know, selling their work is a big no-no. I think some people just associate it with "well I'm already buying a pirated version of a game," but there's often kind of a difference between a company that has abandoned a product, and a person who put something out as a labor of love. Obviously, we all have our own morale line though, but I personally value an individual's ownership over companies. The creator would probably be better off instead selling a Wonder Swan flash cart (Not sure if that exists yet), but I understand the desire for somewhat professional repros.

That’s not Megaman Battle Network. Battle Network has the RPG-style gameplay. This is “Megaman Network Transmission” - a console release - “demade” for WonderSwan.

Okay, but these translations. Has he contacted the original fans who developed these translations and gotten their approval to manufacture these reproduction cartridges using their work? I can't in good faith or good conscience support something where the fans who went the extra mile to make the graphical and coding assets necessary to bring these stories to Western audiences have their faith, blood, sweat and tears poured into something just for someone to capitalize on that and market/manufacture these carts using their work without permission or even a commission/royalties on every cart sold. A written and PGP-signed proof of approval from every translation staff would be optimal, honestly.
