I am a self taught hardanger stitcher. These videos will show how I stitch hardanger. The methods I use are not necessarily the “right” way to stitch, and could very well be the wrong way, but they work for me and I wanted to share this.
I am an amateur video maker with an older Sony camera and no editing software. I can not pause, re-start, edit out or make any other changes to the video. Please feel free to fast forward or back track.
An excellent book of instruction for Hardanger Embroidery is “Basics and Beyond” by Janice Love. The continuation to this is “Fundamentals Made Fancy”, also by Janice Love.
Some stores I’ve purchased instructions, patterns and materials are:
Nordic Needle in Fargo North Dakota (USA)
Traditional Stitches in Calgary Alberta (Canada)
Gitta’s in Mississauga Ontario (Canada)
If you would like a good basic starter kit for Hardanger Embroidery I would recommend looking at the Nordic Needle website, they have quite a few. Here’s one very basic one -
www.nordicneedl...
Good luck and, most importantly, have fun!

Your passion for embroidery can be seen in your lessons. You are a fantastic teacher, you teach very well. What you know is share with everyone, real teachers do it with the heart, without jealousy. And you are a real teacher. Thanks to you I learned this technique during the quarantine. Thank you very much

i have more than 20 magazines with fantastic designs for tablecloths, curtains and fashion garments. unfortunaly the instructions are in German! You have helped me to unlock the mistery behind th German abreviations. I am so looking forward doing the samplers on your videos. Thank you for generosity!

Hi Nina, it's so nice to see another Canadian, but not only that, but a fellow Ontario-ian! I'm in the Southwestern Ontario area. I just caught up on all your videos, and I just wanted to thank you for the awesome Hardanger tutorials. I had never seen how it was done, and think its a beautiful technique, and hope to jump in to try it one day! Your videos are wonderful, keep them coming. :)

I find your videos really useful but if you make more it would be so helpful if you would tell us each time which fabric, thread and needle you use each time. Thanks so much.

Thank you for your reply. On 22 count can one use #8 for Kloster blocks and blanket stitch?
@stitchingwithasmile677
@stitchingwithasmile677 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend #8 pearl cotton for the kloster blocks or blanket stitches on 22 count fabric. However it really depends on the look you're going for. Try a small sample and see what you think.

Thank you for doing the tutorials. I am just getting back into hardanger And the tutorials are very helpful. My question is when doing the buttonhole stitch do you have to use the number five pearl cotton?
@stitchingwithasmile677
@stitchingwithasmile677 3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you find the tutorials helpful. For the buttonhole stitch you will use the same size pearl cotton that you used for the kloster blocks. In this sample I'm using size 5 pearl cotton on 22 count hardanger and will use this same thread for the kloster blocks, the buttonhole and the satin stitch motif. Hope that helps!

Hello, thank you so much for your tutorials. However I would like to learn how to create a hem instead of doing blanket stitch for the edge. Could you do a video of that

I've never done a hem stitch, but would like to some day. My camera is not working and I hope to buy a new one in the new year. Once I do, I will work out how to hemstitch and see if I can post something. Thanks for your comment!
