You make me want to reread all of my books and start tabbing them. I have tanned about 3 books so far and surprisingly enjoyed it. Now I’m able to flip back to certain pages of the book I want to read or use for the future. I created a system at the time but now I think I might change it because I noticed I would use the same 2 colors over and over. I agree with you on the tabs sticking out thing. I will take them out multiple times because it bothers me how far they stick out. Some still do, I just haven’t taken the time to go back and fix it.

Wow, I watch tons of videos on annotations and you and I are the only annotators I have found who use dollar store tabs. I also love the arrow see through tabs and I write on them because I can’t bring myself to write on my books. I go every month to the dollar stores in my area and I always buy out whatever amount they have, so I’m never without. Great post, thank you for sharing

UGH I also do NOT write in books, I do, however, tab my books when I want to remember a good or shocking part. But I do try to take care of them, as I hate dog-earring and the like :X

I find it a lot more fun to annotate books digitally. On the Iphone books app it gives you a variety of highlighter colors and all you have to do is hit the notes button and it shows you every part you highlighted and the notes you wrote with it (if you did) and its just extremely easy to go back and look at what you annotated.

I've been trying to understand why and how anyone would even want to annotate a book; other than a travel guide or reference book, or for a study course. Your video is the best one I've seen so far. It makes sense to me that you have the color key in the front of the book.

I've been tabbing my books for a few years (although my process has changed recently) and I should probably film an updated video for it. But I think the most significant change now, especially for rereads, is tracking characters that I love - especially the minor characters over a series. But I most consistently tab favourite quotes and character relationships. (I also hoard page flags!)

I find that I only tab up books that I'm not enjoying. I put down a tab and a note for why I don't like that part of the book.

Huh. For me it’s the opposite. When I’m not enjoying a book I don’t feel the need to tab it because I don’t think I’ll reread and don’t find much interesting but my favorite books are the most tabbed I own.

I mostly tab quotes or scenes that I like and sometimes I tab things I want to remember as I’m reading. I like your idea for the key in the front. I need to do that.

I've never really tabbed my books, just put a sticky note for some cute moment but after the third reread I know exactly where the scene I like are ... I wanna try and tab my book more and I have a collection of tab on my nightstand for whenever I feel like it

My tabs also change from book to book and so does the length I stick them out. On one book I was reading I stuck the tabs out so all the color was showing (a quarter was colored and the rest of it sticky and clear) and on another I put out just a little bit. I usually end up tabbing character growth, commentary on society, and foreshadowing as well as scenes I hated or loved.

I already tab and annotate my books occasionally (for the same reasons as you!) but I’m really glad you showed the books you do tab because I LOOOOVE the idea of putting a paper/note in the front explaining the colors! That sounds super helpful and also low key looks cute!

I haven't tabbed in so long but I am currently reading Lady Midnight and Kingdom of Ash and I have started back doing so. I like matching the tabs to the cover as well. Seeing all the tabbed books make me want to go buy some tabs and read all my books.

hey sorry im very late but i recommend re reading books and then tabbing them. it takes forever to tab when your reading a book with no idea of what’s going to happen but when you re read it, it usely goes faster so then you can tab easier. i highly recommend it ! ✨
@regitzexenia

@@juliam_x Absolutely agree with you. That habit was ingrained in me at uni. But even with rereads, it still slows me down too much. My most succesful tabbing project was actually a series I read for the third or fourth time 😅 I think it’s a downside to being a really quick reader 🤔 But I haven’t given up on the idea, I just need more practice ☺️

I love tabbing up fantasies. Normally I just use the generic colors. I have scenes that made me mad, love scenes, important quotes or powerful scenes, things that made me laugh, and things that made me cry. Contemporaries and fantasies are my two main things I tab up.

I've found that I tend to tab a lot more at the beginning of book then the end because once I get to climax of the plot im so into it that I don't slow down and stop to tab things. On the most recent book I read I ended up not using a system and only tabbed important moments that really developed the relationship of the two main characters since it was a romance.

I'm not a tabber but the one thing I often find I go back and search for is when I can't remember who a particular minor character is, then I spend five minutes trying to find when they first showed up in the story to reorient myself. That would be a good thing to tab - the first time time a a character appears. Also maybe anything that I might be important and used later in the plot, like a historical connection or an omen or series of tasks... Hmmmm.

For those of you looking for steamy scenes... I have a secret one no one in this generation knows anything about. You don't need to read the whole book, and you wouldn't need to, because you may have seen the movie and already know the story. The thing is that they *completely eliminated that particular chapter from the movie*!! What book is it? You won't believe it... Jaws. Yes, the shark movie. It's a book written in the 70s and Chapter 8 was TOTALLY ignored for the movie. If you want extra fun, see the movie then read Chapter 8. You'll see what I mean, NO mention WHATSOEVER of what happens in there! LOL... but it's steeaammy!! You could even just find the book at a bookstore and never even buy it, but Jaws in print is actually really good. You get to read what the shark is thinking. The author Peter Benchley did an excellent job there and it never came across in the movie. Happy reading!
