Some vegetables can be baffling when we think about where their seeds come from because we only see the part we eat. Sometimes that part is a seed and but most of the time it's a completely different part of the plant. But the seeds are the key to the existence of the vegetable we are eating, so every vegetable must have seeds somewhere. But where are the seeds on a head of lettuce?
This video will not only show where the seeds are, but how to grow them and save them so you can grow your own lettuce year to year without buying seed.

I have not yet lived my dream of sustainable living. Looking for land to start out that dream. Somewhere warmer. I’m from the North too but live South now. Not only are you handsome Dan but very knowledgeable. I would really enjoy starting an echo village with a person that has your skills and patience, which I’m sure has been tested time and time again. But the skills we acquire along the way makes the journey worth it. Having a winery is also something I would love to have !!. For profit and pleasure, together with two tiny homes, built on the far corners of the land, away from the village, I would airbnb these homes for a good yearly income. Which the tourists would then have an opportunity to tour the village, giving us a way to share, on a more personal level, what it’s like to live a sustainable life. The freedom it brings and the challenges. Your insights are worth more than you know Dan. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

I'm grow baby bok choy! It harvest 30 to 40 days. Early spring crop in NE Florida. I let some bolt to beautiful yellow flowers.They produce pods. Let dry, crack over a colander over a bowl. Each pod has a dozen seeds. Omg. So easy. They sell for $4.99 for 400 seeds. I now have thousands. I share with friends. The flower attracts the bees. I had a great summer garden do to the bees. Win Win. Good Video!! Thanks.

This is more important than ever considering low vibrational beings want to control the food chain ..... so much so that they are genetically modifying seeds so you can’t harvest seeds and just simply re sow . Best to go for heirloom varieties and you can seed share too 😊👍

Good update, I've grown stuff for years and always thought of lettuce as annuals and never really thought about how long they actually grew and flowered .Having said that I live in the UK and it's not as warm here, It's surprising just how much seed that one plant produces.

How do I know if my lettuce has bolted too early?
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166

i might try deliberately bolting a store-bought lettuce to save seeds from
@HardcoreSustainable

That would be interesting. I guess you'd have to get it to grow roots first, but it seems doable.

I'm mostly confused on the seeds of bulb onions. I've seen my green onion develop flowers and my egyptian walking onions are obvious but bulb onions? Mine have never flowered.
@HardcoreSustainable
@HardcoreSustainable 2 жыл бұрын
You have to save them over the winter and then plant them in spring. They are a biennial. I've done it before with onions.

Wouldn't it be better to select the plants which bolted latest? So you don't breed early bolting into your lettuce
@HardcoreSustainable
@HardcoreSustainable 3 жыл бұрын
I thought that was what I suggested in the video. I said you want to pull out the ones that are first to bolt and leave the later bolting ones to produce seed.

How do the lettuce taste after kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4XTlIGlmKeihJIsi=SC_5Ae25g-Wh8MIY&t=578 the seed producing stage? Thank you
@HardcoreSustainable

They are very bitter. I would recommend eating them once they bolt to flower. The plant also usually dies back after producing seed, so it's not really producing any new leaves.

Sorry. It's created by KZbin automatically. Maybe there's something I can do to correct it that is automated. Going through it to correct it takes a lot of time.

@@HardcoreSustainable I just sometimes read CC while listening to music. Usually KZbin doesn't do too bad of a job. Oh wait, I just checked and see that the language for your video is Portuguese -auto generated. Choosing English doesn't override it. Other videos seem to be ok, just thought you might like to know in case it is something you need to change at your end.
