Lot's of people being like "Maybe we'll finally see the RDA win"... they already have. 10 transports arrived, visually confirmed 3 landed. Each cleared a zone with their engine plumes to build an entire city and still have room to spare. They have dedicated ground, air, and sea facilities in at least one of these cities. They have rail lines between their city and their mines, and increased military presence and improved military hardware. Hell, a single CIVILIAN whaling craft with a contingent of marines almost entirely wiped out the water-based Nav'i. It took plot armour, numerous deaths, and a giant sentient whale going against its species code of non-violence in order to win. Humanity has already won. They're just fighting insurgents at this point.

Dude. Did you forget they HIRED marines directly out of the armed forces for their security detail? The forces in Avatar 2 is literally an even larger military presence than the first one. @@smugreptile6695 That makes no sense. Avatar makes sense when Unobtanium is non essential and there's peace protestors on Earth blockading RDA offices. If Unobtanium is neccesary for human existence, then the first step is terraformation with a hint of orbital bombardment to pacify the area (as in pacify it off the damn map). We as a species have overthrown governments for cheaper bananas and when it's human existence at stake we suddenly forget we invented industrial murder? The RDA as depicted is humanity with the kiddie gloves firmly ON. Yes, I mean it. We're not that different from humanity 100 or 200 years ago. We can just afford to be a lot nicer these days. We can afford to talk things out. We can afford to be patient.

I remember reading an artbook saying that while the RDA can use conventional weapons to an extant they are outright banned from using WMD's on Pandora by the earths governments. It also mentions how most of the RDA military equipment is antique compared to what actual militaries field things like fighters that use nanomachines to change wing geometry. The reason "Unobtanium" was so important was because its used in the manufacture of superconductors required for interstellar flight. Something they need a ton of in order to make enough ships for an exodus from a dying earth.

The Humans in this scenario are Most certainly playing well within the rules and with their gloves on...With FAR more restraint and patience than frankly is warranted even in conflics on Earth itself. I mean we are more forgiving and tolerant of these blue Xenos than we are of rebellious factions and insurgents on Earth. This is By far one of the Best case scenarios for first contact compared to the kinds of things we dread about in our nightmares about how a first contact with and advance aliean species might go if they arrived here on earth. Compared to something like Independence day, i sure as hell would Hope for this more than anything. If an alien species more advanced than us landed on earth we would be Ecstatic beyond measure if they chose to give us their technology and resources in exchange for a few resource and mining rights! I mean are you kidding me? This is like the Best case scenario possible, that an alien species more advanced comes along and *Chooses* Not to wipe you out but rather trade and bargain with you. And offer you technology that could advance your civilization by Centuries?! What kind of 'Intelligent' Species would turn that down. And frankly i refuse to believe that just because this particular tribe of Navi were too blockheaded to cut a deal with the humans and preserve the lives of their people, there would MOST CERTAINLY be FAR more tribes and leaders out there who would have a greater sense of self preservation and common sense. As has occured for Millenia in our Own history...There would asbolutely be Navi collaborators, those who see the advantages of working with the Humans and gaining unprecedented technology and resources in exchange. Sooner or Later the Navi will be Integrated into the Human world, those who embrace the technolgical revolution and join the Human side will possess riches and technology far beyond any of their rivals and will naturally grow in power and those who stubbornly refuse will die out...either by the force of arms or simply through being outpaced and overtaken by those who do accept change and progress.

Honestly I love the Avatar universe purely for the Hard Sci-fi element of it. I couldn't care less about the story... But the Hard Sci-fi tech in it is just so cool, and how all of its based on Hard sci-fi elements. There's no hand wavy magic warp drive, or any sort of over the top fantasy elements. Its Gritty Hard-Sci fi, kind of Like 'The Expanse' in that regard. Indeed the way I see it, the Avatar universe could in many ways be a Future continuation of the Expanse universe. And for that alone I love it as a Sci-fi universe. And I am totally invested in seeing just how Far humanity can get in its reach across the Stars. Especially within the limitations of Sub-light speed travel and Hard Physics and Hard sci-fi limits. It's just such more interesting and fascinating and absolutely Hard and heck when it's just Pure mechanical muscle and Human ingenuity all within the realm of physics and Reality. Rather than some artificial hand wavy plot device or sci fi supernatural magic nonsense. No, I want to see HUMANS, Us and Us alone, OUR Ingenuity, OUR perservearance and Our technological prowess that takes us to the Stars and accross the Universe. Now, That will truly be a world to behold.

But after awhile im like, can i please see more of the quad dragon gunship, or the ISV's (A.w.o.t.w. answered my wishes with that intro, chefs kiss on that deorbit burn) Cause thats some beautiful engineered machinery thats "built by humans" and maybe its the engineer in me but i just love how realistic the tec looks, it feels like we could actually build something like that vs star trek/wars or any other alien movie spaceship.

What I like about the RDA is its the most realistic depiction of human space expansion. most sci fi movies are like lightyears ahead of are current tech. the RDA goes off science. they have "semi" realistic and "achievable" tech and are backed not by government but by a massive corporation that makes trillions (if not more) of dollars based off of the fact that the RDA most likely has an monopoly on routes to get to unobtanium, and other expensive products such as "anti aging whale brain cream???" witch can halt or reverse the natural human aging processing. this is collected by the RDA : planetary species, nature, plant life and eco system be dammed in the sake of un-imaginable, unfathomable wealth. its implied that the RDA is absurdly wealthy, this with humanity's lust for power and stubbornness to achieve it.... this is the most realistic scenario of humanity and expansion of the stars , other than say altered carbon, just of the top of my head. P.S I watched this movie in theaters in laser Imax. the scene where the "new star" appears and it shows the planet in reflection of the solar panel/heat shield, was breathtaking. It then shoots to a scene of looking out the window at pandora, and you would swear that you were there. brilliant movie beautiful graphics

Exploit unobtanium veins and hunt sentient whales for some inmortality serum, both things they said are priced in the billions, they are doing dogshit to help humanity, at most if they are really colonizing can you guess who'll be going to Pandora? Rich people, politicians anyone with power, they are not trying to save humanity, and their methods are not even morally questionable they are outright evil, in the first one they pretended to want to try negotiations but they already knew the aliens wouldn't give their ancestral home for them to mine the resources under it, would you give your hometown or country if aliens came by and asked you pretty please because they need to mine some expensive stuff under it? @@tatepultro I find it extremely unlikely that Pandora is their only option. It might be the best option on paper, but add in the cost of the planet itself sic'ing the flora and fauna on humanity and its far more likely they will be setting up in another location if the movie was being sensible. And the RDA can only be considered "good" in the broadest of terms through the eyes of humanity trying to survive. In pretty much every other aspect they are the baddies here.
