I love this skit. They crush so many tropes on here. New actor replaces old (Amir), moving to a new location/environment (LA), introducing a once famous person as a new central character (Tony Hawk), spinoffs (Streeter), a ridiculous stunt that would never happen on older episodes (Jumping the Murph), the pregnancy that never occurs in a hospital (Jeff).

@drgabethebabe Jumping the shark was a term used to describe a moment where a popular franchise reaches a decline in quality or popularity. It is caused mainly by futile attempts of trying to revive a series using absurd storylines or unlikely plot twists as shown in the video. i.e. Baby being born, sudden proposal, Spinoffs, unlikely cast additions, etc. Hope it helped!

The ironic thing is that a lot of them did move to LA, and there's a new Hardly Working cast in NY (seemingly just filling in the void, without any of the charm of the old gang) now.
@mitchawesomefoot613910 жыл бұрын
Actually from what I gather from J&A's podcast and Morning Drawfee, the new Hardly Working cast (Murph, Emily, Pat, Sam, Josh) is in LA actually and a lot of the originals stayed in NY. Sarah and Streeter work for SNL, David for Fallon and Dan for John Oliver. (and Owen who showed up later for The Daily Show) Jake and Amir did move to LA, but I don't think either works for CH anymore aside from doing their videos. Oh and Jeff moved to LA, there's a video up of Streeter driving him to the airport or something. He works for Buzzfeed now, he's shown up in a few of their videos. CH does still has offices in NY, though, along with their sister site dorkly (and I think busted tees too). Caldwell and Nathan work there, they were in some random videos and now do the show Morning Drawfee here on youtube.

For all the people who don't get it, the term "Jump the Shark" is defined as the moment in a TV show when the producers introduce a ridiculous character, an insane plot twist, or a spinoff, to boost ratings. The term comes from an episode of "Happy Days" where Fonzie literally jumps a shark on water skis.

This is so appropriate for the show that has broken shark-jumping records. A Christmas special- jump #1; a "look back" episode-jump #2; "A very special episode" #1- the wedding-jump#3; "A very special episode" #2- the baby- jump#4; and the obligatory "cute baby" episode-jump#5. Jim and Pam deserve the Ted McGinley award for killing a show. The only way to save the show is to kick them off into a spin-off and go back to being about.... An office!

Italian4Evz, when a show goes too far (usually due to the writers having no new ideas) they usually do what has been depicted in the video: Have a character do something crazy, bring in random guest stars, have a spin off with one of the characters, have two characters finally get together, bring in a new actor when an old one quits and pretend that nothing has changed, bring in new, shallow characters or even start a new show.
