Gravity falls intentionally ended after only 2 seasons despite it’s heavy following, because they didn’t want to destroy the essence of the show. Which is really cool

Gravity Falls was probably the first time I had to grapple with letting a show go, but I’m actually glad that it ended when it did. A few of my friends have suggested that they should make a sequel miniseries or maybe a spin off on a different channel following Ford’s adventures through dimensions or Dipper and Mabel as adults, but I think it’s not the road to go down. Honestly, I’m fine with what we have, including the spin-off comics and books.
@baototta4 жыл бұрын
True. I would like to see more of Ford cause of the way the arc of the show affected his screen time- maybe through a 5-7 episode mini-series that’s independent enough to not effect the rest of the show (basically all filler, but with Ford).

The Breaking Bad approach is so much better. End the show when the story is over. If you want to do more, make more stories in the same universe, like El Camino and Better Call Saul. That way, if any of them suck (hard to imagine with Vince Gilligan), it doesn't retroactively taint the good parts.
@GREYFLWRMUSIC Жыл бұрын
Breaking Bad did it the right way, leaving you craving more. I watched all 6 Seasons of Better Call Saul before ever watching Breaking Bad. And the pitch perfect ending of BCS made me wanna watch BB, and after the ending of BB, I imminently went to watch El Camino. It's all really well written and presented in these manageable chunks, even if binge-watching all of them. You just know that when watching BB, Gilligan maybe did not know how to get to the end at first, but he knew the show will end. And Better Call Saul ended up being one of my favorite TV shows of all time.

I think that Bojack Horseman is an interesting case when talking about endings. Netflix warned the creator that they might decline new seasons without giving him any sort of warning or anything to be able to wrap up the show; so the show is written in a way that any season finale could be the series finale But in the end they actually told him that the 6th season was gonna be the last, so that's why it feels like an actual conclussion to the show
@lukewarmwaterr2 жыл бұрын
@@GPoh_99 I wouldn't want to imagine Bojack horseman lasting that long, near the end it just felt like the show was getting less enjoyable
@Zeverinsen2 жыл бұрын
@@GPoh_99 I'm pretty sure that he said Bojack was supposed to have maybe 1 or 2 more seasons to completely wrap up the show with it's natural conclusion before they cancelled it. Also, he had a previous agreement with Netflix about only doing the show if he could continue it to what he deemed a natural conclusion, only to get hit by a cancellation without warning. The only reason why we even got that last season was because Waxberg and the actors _literally begged_ Netflix for the opportunity to at least finish it somewhat properly. That last season was supposed to be longer, with a true final season following it, to make for a truly satisfying ending. I think the ending was fine, but I can totally see how two seasons would've been better to finish it properly.
@ceetee1102 жыл бұрын
@@lukewarmwaterr I didn't witness a single season that was less enjoyable than the last, but that's just me. I am glad it ended when it did, though. There's dignity in ending things before the premise is run into the ground, even if it wasn't really their choice. But I don't think they went out on a weak note in any way.
@firstpersonforge2 жыл бұрын
@@GPoh_99 BoJack had a very satisfying ending but I could definitely have gone for more if only because the characters did evolve and grow, even BoJack as much as he just goes over the same self destructive cycle changed a lot, so it definitely could have gone longer, I wouldn't say no to a post-prison season, but maybe the show doesn't work if BoJack has genuinely become a better person.
@verbatim5452 жыл бұрын
I reckon this is a good idea for ways to do things, but if a show sets off from the beginning to achieve a point that’s an ultimate goal, then you HAVE to have the right pacing. You can’t blow through a 20 episode season for the plot of sometjinf that should take 7 seasons. Imagine if they escaped the island on Lost on the end of the like, 10th episode. That would be LAME! It takes buildup! I’m not saying it was justified to go on as long as it did, just making an example.

That 70s Show is my favorite sitcom. I’ve watched through it entirely at least 20 times, I just constantly restart it when I’m done. (I’ve also enjoyed Netflix’s That 90s Show.) I don’t hate the final season. I feel so bad for Josh Meyer, that people despise Randy. I find Randy to be a decent character who fits in well. I think where they fucked up was not keeping Hyde and Jackie together. They could’ve been the glue to distract from Eric being gone. They’re my favorite couple, and Hyde is just a great character you really root for to be better and have a good life. Jackie and Fez was the most off putting, bad taste in the mouth to the viewers and I think it really skews the likability of that last season.

Breaking Bad is probably the exact perfect length for a drama show. That entire show feels like every last scene was planned before it even began. Never feels like they change course in the slightest through 60+ episodes. And they left enough room for an equally long (arguably better) spinoff that also completely justifies its length. I appreciate a show that just tells the story that needs to be told.

i wish dwight became manager at the start of season 8 and then maybe season 8 ends with him losing it and then 9 is his redemption after being fired ala angela's entire redemption that season to mirror it and make it all feel worthwhile...i think the biggest issue is andy becoming manager deangelo and robert are all just bad choices the show made and then bringing in clark and plop and nellie and getting rid of kelly and ryan like wtf?...these are not good choices and it makes the show feel like a waste of time like 45+ episodes of that crap?......the show in season 8 feels like a parody at times the way season 7 started to feel like...and 9 just went all out with weird plots...some worked some didn't...to me if they just planned it out better it could of worked heck have a season 10 with dwight as manager married then have everyone slowly follow their dreams and leave the branch finally and end it with the doc ending parts of the finale and end it that way

I cannot believe Game of Thrones met the same fate as That 70's Show
@ilumie97793 жыл бұрын
I mean their fate was slightly different, in the sense that "That 70s show" had already run its course and could have ended with two or three more episodes to wrap things up nicely instead of several additional shitty seasons. Game of thrones on the other hand did need a season seven and a season eight, because the storyline was obviously still not finished. But they just managed to continually progress from below average to sickeningly bad, by hiring writers who obviously didn't care much about the source material and were just in it for the money.

I honestly think Danny Masterson had a lot to do with why Topher left the show. Since his trial a lot has come out about how toxic that set was and it’s pretty well documented that all the kids on that show, except Topher, hung out together outside of the show. It’s also we’ll document that all the boys, except for Topher we’re big partiers who all have questionable relationship histories and more than likely knew what was going on with Danny the whole time. It’s also been noted that Danny disliked Topher because he didn’t bow to his influence like the others did. Danny’s ex-girlfriend has also said that Danny bullied Topher on the set and that he would be abusive towards her for even saying hi or trying to be cordial to Topher. If all this is true, which I honestly think it is, then I don’t blame Topher for not wanting to be a part of that environment and getting out as soon as his contract allowed him.

Freaks and Geeks is one of my favorite shows. It launched a lot of young actors careers, and was really well written, but it was cancelled on the first season. The ending was pretty satisfying, something that had you wondering what the kids would go on to do, but overall knowing it would be alright. The show is about high schoolers in the early 80s, and from what my parents recall, it was pretty much exactly how high school in the 80s felt. It’s a lot more real then how media usually glamorizes the 80s. But what I love about the show is how so much happens in the first and only season. A whopping 18 episodes. You see kids turn into adults, bullies to nerds, and geeks into “freaks”. You hate people at first but learn to like them. You like people and learn to hate them. And overall, the main characters problems aren’t always that big of a deal. They’re just life lessons. But it’s the way it’s written that gives the stories and the kids depth, and makes you love their characters. they feel so real. like friends just having fun and laughing. But also how it feels to have major life changes and growing up. Overall 10/10 show would highly recommend.

One example for a show that knew exactly where to go is one of the most underrated shows of all time: Mr Robot. They knew exactly where they were going, they had 4 seasons and 45 episodes to do it in and it ended perfectly where every clue they threw in throughout the series tied together perfectly. My favorite ending to a series ever

the worst tv show ending that has stuck with me: How i met your mother. It feels like they had all of these seasons to do whatever they wanted and then they got toward the end, realized they had stretched it out too long, and had to wrap it up with an awful awful ending that made no sense.

The problem was that they wrote themselves into a corner. We had the on/off thing with Robin, while knowing Ted didn't marry her and have kids with her, and ultimately once we knew who the mother was all intrigue would end. It had bad pacing and got very confused. Should have been better planned.

My example of this is the Cursed Child for Harry Potter. All the characters were turned into the worst version of themselves, they hint at Harry and Hermione having an affair, Harry is a horrible father, Ron is turned into a stupid idiot, not like a funny idiot like movie Ron, just someone who is completely dumb and they cut a lot of characters like Fred and Teddy Lupin, and it creates a lot of plot holes in the series. Like it ruins the way how time turners worked in the original series. I honestly like to pretend it doesn’t exist.
@mayasuri51843 жыл бұрын
The plot wasn’t actually that bad, it was the characters that made it horrible.
@ahohwassup51943 жыл бұрын
@@mayasuri5184 Yeah, but the plot doesn’t make sense because time turners don’t work that way. You can only go back a couple hours, and they went decades back. Also time turners don’t pull you back to the future, you have to wait out the time. So if you went back an hour, you have to wait until past you uses the time turner and then you can go back out. Plus all time turners were destroyed in book 5 . I agree with you that it is not a bad plot, it’s just not Harry Potter you know?

@lydialeon7114 жыл бұрын
Exactly, El keeps defeating the final boss "once and for all." But, if she has to do that every season, it means the writers keep having to top the way she did it last time for the show to remain exciting. Which means more over the top plot lines, and exaggerated themes. I'm not excited for that at all.

I feel the same about the anime Symphogear. It just ended so well after a phenomenal story spanning 5 seasons of pure awesomeness that the creators wanted to tell and the ending is fulfilling and worth it. One of the famous examples is Gravity falls, which had a pre-planned ending from the beginning, after three seasons, but ended up combining the last two seasons into one, because people on the internet had guessed the ending, and while the mid-season finale for season 2 is one of the best episodes of television period, it also adds a fourth main castmember who we're supposed to care about as much as the others four episodes later when the show's multi-part finale starts, with his not even being in one of the intervening episodes. Then the crunch to finish the show faster lead to delays that made the season release across 2 years anyway. Though the show itself never got to be _bad,_ this lead to an ending planned from the start by the show's creator which didn't actually satisfy fans, and thus interest in a third season persists to this day in spite of all this.

I have never been able to go back and watch it knowing what everything is leading up to, what all the buildup is for. Caught a rerun in my work's break room the other day. It had been almost a decade* since I'd seen the show. The theme song played and it was so familiar, I felt such a wave of nostalgia come over me. I'm considering rewatching the show, maybe skipping the last season or simply last episode, pretending it was a fever dream, and finding a fanfiction that pulled it off better! *I decided to Google it & it had been 9 years and 4 months the day I saw it lol. Bojack Horseman just ended after being canceled and yet the ending is a true ending, the creator/writer of the series Raphael Bob-Waksberg, asked netflix that if they were planning on canceling it that they could give him a heads up so he could write a proper ending. Even before Bojack's planned cancellation Waksberg ended each season with a possible ending that also allowed for more season in case of a spontaneous cancel of the show. When the time came that netflix canceled the show, they went ahead and gave Waksberg the heads up he asked for therefore allowing for the best ending to my favorite show. It just goes to show how much Waksberg cared for his creation and although he said he was up to going for a few more seasons, he accepted the fate of the show and made a good ending instead of squeezing it to death or being petty about his show being canceled.
