Hardstyle Kick Tutorial 2016 by Yhimself using FL Studio and only native plugins

Hey!
I thought it was about time i made a new one of these =)
This time i decided to not use any third party vsts, only native FL Studio plugins so everyone can follow. I use CurveEQ once but if you dont have it you can skip that step, i also use Voxengo Span wich is a free vst.
Remember that i made this kick in just over an hour, normally i spend alot more time than that when making a kick so the result can be better than what i came up with in this video, i merely try to teach you the techniques you can use to make great kicks, you just need to dedicate alot of time and effort into mastering it for yourselves.

This is like the only usefull tutorial i found on youtube. You are the only one who shows everything step by step. Yes there are others showing everything step by step too but their kick sounds shit. Your result is something i call "a good kick" :)

When using the CurveEQ wouldn't it be better to do that for the punch/tok and for the tail of the kick separately as those are pretty much entirely different sounds that also need to be EQed differently?

What I don't understand is that when I go through everything you do and load up paraeq2 it's not showing up in the frequencies that you're at. It's much lower.

Evan Wong mainly because the smallest thing can make a huge difference, best way is to learn what you are aiming to do with each step and over time you will improve. I’m not quite at a level of making pro kicks but I’ve noticed my kicks are getting decent just from trying and trying doing different things each time

When I add any type of plugin to my channel rack and loop playback it for testing the sounds, I am getting this hum under the beat. It's a monotone sound that I can't seem to make go away. Any ideas?

This is a very useful tutorial. I never really mess with WaveShaper, and definitely not with EQ, and never thought about layering them! Edit: So I spent like 2 hours just messing around and exporting shit.... Started to make a song, but I realised that I can't use any pitch other than F, otherwise the sound is too short or too long. If I set it to resample in any way, it ruins the kick. I tried using Harmor's image function, but even then it ruins it if I even go a semitone up or down. Looks like I'll have to either make a completely new/basic kick that doesn't use 500 waveshapers, or deal with just F, F, F, F beat :l

I really recomend using the “time machine 2” Kontakt module if you can. If you can’t, Slicex is very good too!

I have a problem here. So basicly when im trying to make the kick as you showed between at 2:10 and 3:00 min, you got some sort of ringing sound which made it sound alot lighter and also better later on but mine instead became very basey and very dark which ruined the sound a fair bit and i cant figre out why. So i would appreciate if you could answer why it is happening. Thanks in advance!

try using high pass filters but at very low frequency (like 20hz - 50hz) I don't fully understand how it helps but it does. think it has to do with freeing up space for distortion. audiofreq talks about it in his tutorial. it also balances the positive and negative amplitude of the waveform for some reason so it's a useful tool for that too. hope this helps man. kicks can be be bastards to make

Are you disabling the two other oscillators? Im only using one of the 3 oscillators, and by default theyr set to each their own octave

I follow the exact steps and still get a different sound! Can someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?? At the beginning I when I first distort the sound using fruity waveshaper I get a lot of background noise!!

I have the same trouble. I'm not sure if it's a sound card issue or something else. I especially experienced this when boosting the mid frequencies (following from 05:05). It seemed liked some kind of feedback or resonance. It sounded similar to the overload buzz that you get when pushing past limiters. Nevertheless, I created a decent kick by approaching it similarly but by isolating the "tok" from the bass differently. My approach is a little more complicated to setup, but it might prove useful in the future because it could allow for a lot more control in real-time. :) If all works out well with my approach, I may post a tutorial for it (finding time and space is difficult). Anyway, if you have any suggestions of how to rectify the buzzing issue, please let me know. I'm interested in knowing exactly what the complication is. I've not looked into it further, but if you're still experiencing this issue I'll try my best to help where I can. :)
