Tehelka sting is tell all story behind all the underhand dealings that goes on in Indian cricket's dressing room. Most of the top players including captains at that time were involved until honest players like Sachin, Ganguly, and Dravid came along. Right from Sunil Gavaskar, and Kapil Dev to Azaruddin everyone was involved in match-fixing on many occasions. Kapil dev and Azaraddin were the biggest beneficiaries and they pioneered this culture to the greatest extent in the Indian cricket team.

Hansie Cronje honestly admitted to wrongdoing. When the Delhi Police first mentioned his involvement in match fixing, like all human beings, he denied it. And given his record and standing, everyone came to his defence too. I remember Dr Ali Bacher staunchly supporting Cronje. It was his own religious convictions that prompted Cronje to later own up, else no one would have known. Whether Kapil Dev is innocent or not is speculative on our part as no evidence was found against him, even by CBI. However, I refuse to believe that Prabhakar would go on to such extended lengths to prove Kapil's involvement just out of jealousy. Many of you in comments are questioning Prabhakar's honor and his word, which is agreeable but only someone who had involved in match fixing and betting himself could foil the whole racket. If Kapil Dev was truly innocent he would have charged a libel case against Prabhakar for defamation but a court case would open the can of worms, so I guess he didn't. Regardless, several questions need be answered and are worth thinking tho: 1. Azharuddin is reported by CBI to have confessed for match fixing, is mentioned as a match fixer in their final written report and was mentioned by Cronje in his testament as the person who introduced Cronje to the bookies. But was given a clean chit by the supreme court later. 2. Not a single Indian cricket player has ever confessed to match fixing in media or public, although there were rampant controversies, court cases, rumors; some were banned by BCCI, many others were let go of and what not. 3. A crime doesn't necessarily involve the act itself. If you overheard match fixing but didn't report that would be a abetment of crime too. 4. Many cricketers were not banned like Nayan Mongia by the BCCI but mentioned in the CBI report. If you google 'Nayan Mongia match fixing', a video of him against the west indies missing a run out opportunity as blatant as the Mohammed Amer no ball pops up. 5. You've to wonder why names of certain individuals keep popping up in the match fixing scandal even Kapil Dev, while some others don't. 6. Why the BCCI itself didn't have a commission to look into this matter, ever. In actuality, the roots of match fixing was way way more deeper than what it seemed to us. Bigger sharks (bigger than Azhar) would've been in trouble had there been a thorough and rigorous investigation.

In the Priyadarshini Mattoo murder case, the judge looked at the accused and said, "I know this man is the killer, but yet cannot punish him due to lack of evidence!". The tehelka tapes are not judicially admissible evidence. But there are multiple people people who indirectly point to Kapil Dev's dark acts - Navjot Sidhu, Jaywant Lele, Kamal Nath, many. But all of us are free to believe what we want.

even though i wud like to agree with you...the tehelka tapes prove nothing....its quite obvious that kapil was not a very popular person in the dressing room....the tapes could easily have been set up by prabhakar and others who don't like kapil... we all see in our daily life how false stories spread about people who are disliked through rumours etc...this could easily be the same..... thanks god the judicial system looks at both sides of the story and concrete proof before passing judgement..

I was and am great fan of Kapil Dev, I feel in India you can't trust anybody, atmosphere is such bad, i don't trust Prabhakar for what he is claiming, in my opinion Prabhakar was never a player of caliber and he shouldn't insult legend, India has produced only 3 legends in cricket 1. Kapil 2 Gavaskar and 3 Sachin Tendulkar, even out of these 3 i feel Kapil always played only for country while other two played for records as well as country.
