It's not your fault Sam/Sir Wiggles, even if you had enough time for a full shake down before your trip, you'd never have found that out unless you rebuilt the engine beforehand. As you suggested, find out it's weaknesses, upgrade them with strengthened parts and it will be golden.

I built this car in 1999. Used it as an ‘everyday’ car for 2 years. Sold to a guy who was going to use it as a track day car. It probably cost me £30k to build.

@@nicde800 in the UK a crate motor will be silly money. We can't just walk into a dealer and say "crate motor pronto mofo" and it appears in the parking lot ready to go.. Even an air filter for one of those will be on back order for years. LS engines are as rare as hens teeth in the UK which is a shame because America have made huge progress and frankly we the British are missing out on some EPIC cars and drivetrains purely because they are expensive to import.

With the crank and rod damage on this its prime for the stroker kit but I believe to get the full 383 cubic inches the block will need to be bored .060 over stock. At least the 2 dozen or so ive built are that way. I believe an .030 block bore makes it a 377 cubic inch. But whoever you get your kit from (ive only trusted either stock parts using a 400 cube crank rods and balancer with the proper sized pistons. Or get an) Eagle or Scat kit as they are the most trustworthy and really how many times do you wanna tear it down?

If you've span a main you'll probably need a new engine as line boring it probably isn't worth the cost. Look at Summit racing. They do turn key crate engines with everything for about 5k+ shipping+ tax.

With it being a simple American V8, If you are going to stroke it, would it not be worth looking at lowering the compression and perhaps bolting a supercharger on top? It would be simple old school mods so no messing about with computers etc.
@chrisktm20106 ай бұрын
Wouldn’t bother with that engine. You will either have to fully rebuild it and I mean fully or replace it and at that point you may as well go newer and fuel injected unit with a standalone ECU.

if it's for an american v8 you might just as well go with it for sake of future simplicity. it's not like those are that hard to come by either and the aftermarket support really simplifies things if you get hungry for more power. don't get me wrong a w12 would be fun.
