Everything is fine with Korean & Chinese made reels until one needs spare parts. Every 3-4 years models are discontinued and then its impossible to get spares. Give me a Tobor, Billy Pate or Islander reel any day for reliability, line capacity, continuity, customer service and spare parts.

Thanks for the comment Adam, I have been using my Fortuna reels for about 7 years and I got spare parts for them a couple of months ago? I have also had whole drags swapped out at the Hardy factory here in the UK. Perhaps this is more of a cross the Atlantic thing as trying to get spares for the reels you mentioned over in Europe is problematic and Billy Pate and Islander reels are not even sold over here….

I agree with Pete on this, I'm based in the uk and have experienced great after sales from Hardy, when my Scott Meridain needed repairing it was gone for about 2 months because it had to be shipped back to the US. Everything made in america is foreign manufacturing to the rest of the world. A new regent is definitely on my shopping list.

Always had sealed drag reels . I am not to sure if I have the confidence to do the reel maintenance. I have been looking at the Tibor Pacific. Is it difficult to maintain the tibor brand ?

trying to imagine how all your previous reels feel about this video. Hurt I reckon! I hope they never see it ;-)

Do you find that it has enough capacity for your 9wt setup? I see that the 8000 can only fit 175 yards of backing with WF9

Hi Andrew, yes I did as I loaded it with powerpro braid and got about 250 yards on there..

What do you recommend for Christmas Island GT Fishing, on a 12WT rod ? 10k or 12k reel ?
@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing10 күн бұрын
Hi there, I have both and the 10000 is certainly up to it and can take a 12# line… the 12000 is a big reel, although light. I now use the 10000 on my 11# and the 12000 on my 12#. For backing capacity the 12000 is better…

Great video. I'm looking at 1 for a 10wt. Would you go 8000 or 10000? I'd be happy with 250m of 40lb braid backing. Will be used for barra, permit and kingfish. Cheers

I would go with the 10000 as it’s rated 9/10/11…. The 8000 is really too small for a 10#

which rod you use? Marksman Z?

Hello Peter, great video. I’m looking for a true 10wt reel to match with a 10wt rod. I have a Tibor gulfstream/Sage Salt 12wt & nice Bauer/scott 8wt combo. Which fortuna regent do you recommend for true 10wt(permit & tarpon up to 50/60 lbs). Leaning towards 1000. Any thoughts be appreciated. -Cheers

Sorry just read more replies. Sounds like the 1000 it is.

Hi Matt, sorry for slow response, yes, would go with the 10000… next one down is too small for a true 10#

Thanks for an entertaining and informative review. I have a Zane Carbon 10000 for small bone fish etc in the Florida Keys. Looks like I'll have to pick up this model also. Do you have a preferred fly line for your permit and bone fishing?

Thanks for the comment Michael, glad you enjoyed it.. I like the RIO permit and the RIO Bonefish lines, have a quick look kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIrHmYaQmNFsZtk for a comparison…
