A friend just saw him in concert and he explained why he (Hardy) chose to write this song. He wrote it because his song 'Give Heaven some Hell' wasn't played on country radio because it was deemed sacrilegious because of having heaven and hell in the title. So this is a direct slap on the suits faces in the industry. They said it wouldn't work...2 middle finger right at them. He's doing just fine.

its really not though, its more about his personal desire to have more rock sound in his music, thats the whole point of the mockinbird and the crow, its not some grand statement about the music industry its a personal battle about wanting to write both radio hits about trucks and girls but also more out there rock songs, he has said this multiple times,

All of the guidelines or it won’t be a hit and he will lose his record deal etc. The new video for mockingbird has people calling him and he cuts the cord on his phone. So, yeah there are multiple shots taken at the people that call the shots in the industry.

@@VelocityRaptor32 Nah, He wrote for FGL, pretty solididly pop coutnry with plenty of bro country elements. its not so much a huge commentary on pop country and more a commentary of himself and his multiple interests and desires. He has spoken about it multiple times in different interviews. Its not about the industry as much as it is about himself.
