Why did you not use the 0.64 information in the second example? How would you know when you can not use this or when you should ?
@kaigordon9237 Жыл бұрын
You always want to use the recessive allele when possible
@Tryingveryhardpls Жыл бұрын
Because red is all of heterozygous AND homozygous dominant. Does that make sense?

Hi, Does it matter which equation use first ? Also, as we know q=0.0002 , why can't you just do ( p= 1-0.0002 ) from the ( p+q=1 ) formula
@marco3391 Жыл бұрын
It depends what the question asks. If they give you an allele frequency (B or b) you would first use p+q = 1. Whereas if they give you a genotype like BB, Bb or bb you would put that into the other equation. Using my example of B and b: p = B q = b p^2 = BB 2pq = Bb q^2 = bb The 0.0002 example was q^2 (or cc genotype) so that’s why she square rooted it first to get to q. Hope that helps

How would you use this equation when there is no recessive allele and on only co dominant alleles are present
@davidmkwizu762 жыл бұрын
1:28 miss isn’t the allele frequency how often the allele occurred in the population.
@Letik3x5 ай бұрын
for the second example why did you only the black percentage ??
@Lavin.6 ай бұрын
11:28 how do you know when to square or not the 36%. I hope someone can let me know bc sometimes you have to and sometimes the mark scheme doesnt. thank you

For the second worked example, are you allowed to just assume that the lower percentage phenotype is caused by a recessive allele? Doesn't it have to be stated?
@MissEstruchBiology2 жыл бұрын
Hey, sorry I actually didn't show a previous part of this question in which they stated black was recessive. You wouldn't assume, they would have to tell you or give you information to determine it.
@FlorenceStott-v3g Жыл бұрын
What do you do if alleles are co-dominant? I've just seen a question on it and im stumped.
@MissEstruchBiology Жыл бұрын
hey, for codominance the here's an eg. WW dominant genotype frequency would be p^2 RR dominant genotype frequency would be q^2 RW codominance genotype frequency would be 2pq
