Цветной фильм такого качества, выдумки, фантазии, в 1944, да ещё в Германии. Это и через 1000 лет невозможно будет понять. Не зря немцы считали себя сверхлюдьми.Они были впереди планеты всей в технологиях: телевидение, реактивные самолёты, баллистические ракеты и даже ухитрились стырить у бритов радиолокацию. Были очень близко к созданию атомной бомбы.И это всё- в военное время.Непостижимо!

The orange and black design from 4:20 is like the scene of Ivan the Terrible's banquet in Eisenstein's 'The Boyar's Plot'. At the end of World War Two Agfacolor stock was seized and used for Soviet films in 'Sovcolor'. The movie was shown in the USSR, acclaimed despite being a Third Reich product. The finale became study material in its cinema schools, but the Russians never learned how to make musicals. And after WW2 the Germans forgot how to do it.

The irony I see with this scene is how it starts off in some kind of idyllic ancient China which of course was currently being occupied and ravaged by Japan which was Germany’s ally during WW II.

Er hatte 27 Millionen Zuschauer .Und Finanziell kann er schon gar nicht der erfolgreichste Film gewesen sein denn er kam erst Ende August 1944 in die Kino wenige Monate vor dem Zusammenbruch des 3.Reiches.

I can imagine cinema audiences in wartime Germany losing themselves in this lovely fantasy world and then being yanked back into reality by an air raid warning, and having the movie stop so that they could evacuate to a bomb shelter.

Marika Rokk is an example of how geography played a critical role in shaping a life. Marika Rokk was the Third Reich's version of Ginger Rogers. If, and this is a big if, Marika Rokk had moved to Hollywood, she probably would have been a major star whose name would still be talked about today. Instead, she was entertaining Nazis.

If I remember correctly, Marika actually did perform in both Britain and the US early in her career, including in movies, so her becoming a Hollywood star like many other Europeans could have really happened.

The whirlwind tour embraces countries that were not giving Hitler headaches in 1944. Even Goebbels judged the Spanish ladies' costumes near the knuckle, and made George Jacoby reshoot their dance to be less risque.
