I have had my Chemex for years and love it. It was a gift from my wife’s grandfather, lord only knows how long he had it. I love making coffee for people with it and their reaction of “wow this is good” is always an ego boost. 👍🏽☕️

Team v60 here, but I admit being curious about the Chemex since I've only had Chemex brews by other folks and none of my own. Seems like I'm inclined to stick with the Hario mainly because I do appreciate a bit more oil and "character" to the cups I brew (the ZP6 is shockingly consistent, might be a whit TOO clean with the Chemex!). The prices of the filters are also more flattering to the Hario, at least in my area. Thanks for the vid!

Maybe I’m doing my chemex wrong it always tastes bitter too me and I never taste the flavors on the bag! I also buy the best beans you can find w specialty coffee 🤦♂️

@kylemessineo8542 try these 3 things: 1. Use original chemex filter 2. Set your grinder right, incorrect grinding will give you bad coffe, there is a lot of try and error here so be patient 3. Don't use dark roast, use medium roast, will taste way better on chemex Good luck and enjoy coffee

@@kjvasquez do you grinder coarser? Thanks

Just bought a 8 cup handblown chemex As I need a new coffee maker was currently using Mr coffee ice maker but it was getting too old and possibly moldy most of my coffee was getting very bitter need loads of creamer, i had one thing in mind a all glass coffee maker as I didn’t care for the melitta. I came across the chemex read up on the history of it and it has a very unique look to me being someone that collects unique glassware it was a winner for Me. Was the chemex pricy absolutely, I didn’t care because if it’s taken care of it could last me a lifetime. My first cup I brewed was 30oz of death wish coffee with a brista warrior stainless filter and “if you care “ paper filter from my left overs from my other coffee maker 😳 holy 💩 that was one smooth strong cup of coffee not bitter at all. It was actually the first time I could actually tolerate drinking black coffee definitely in opinion the reusable filter with a paper one did a perfect extraction I would definitely recommend. I haven’t tried the chemex filters yet due to the fact of folding and rinsing them . I would recommend a chemex with barista warrior reusable coffee to any one , i recently made one for my grandma she loves it and said that’s the best cup of coffee she’s had in her whole life at 78 👍🏻

Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’re really enjoying your Chemex, and I love how you combined the Barista Warrior stainless filter with the paper filter to get that smooth, strong cup. It’s great to hear that you’re now able to drink black coffee without the bitterness. The Chemex is definitely a beautiful piece of glassware, and like you said, if taken care of, it can last a lifetime. When you do try the Chemex filters, I’d be curious to hear how they compare.

Chemex is the iPhone of pour-over coffee brewers 😅 There’s less expensive alternatives that get the job done, but the coffee looks so beautiful in that glass.

V60 is amazing, chemex I’ve never used but I guess I’d use the same technique I use for v60 so I guess the result would be the same 😅

They actually give a fairly different flavor, but it may be more due to the filter paper used and how much oils they let through.

I find it fascinating that there are so many videos on brewing methods yet so few on coffee. I know this theory is kind of edgy, but I'd go as far and claim that the choice of cofee is even more important than whether you decide to brew in the Chemex or in the V60. I have many coffee brewers at home (aeropress, french press, metal filter, V60, Melita, Chemex etc.)- but sometimes, when I buy coffee that just isn't that good, neither of them will make a good cup wheras when I buy good coffee, it will most certainly always taste awesome. Yes, it will taste a bit diffetent and if I've found a good bag of beans I want to try all methods with it. But at the end of the day, it's really the coffee...

Couldn't agree with you more Max. Good quality coffee is definitely the most important factor. How you brew can bring out or accentuate certain flavours of the coffee.

That goes without saying. I think anyone who does pour overs are aware of this
