Love this hymn....we sang a long time ago growing up in church. My twin brother and I now being 80.....so that was in the late 40's and onward....He still needs salvation😢, but it's still not too late. He is fighting it so hard.....so it could be just around the corner.😊

I’m 60, and this has been one of my most favourite Christmas Hymns, as well as my Wife’s. My wife went to be with Jesus this past Mon evening, so she will be singing this hymn in heaven this year.

Beautiful memories of singing this incredible hymn at the end of Midnight Mass, each Christmas Eve at the Anglican Cathedral, Newcastle NSW, Australia. A full choir singing in many parts, a pipe organ, enthusiastic Novocastrians of all ages singing at the top of our lungs. Being with my parents, now in their 80's. Reflecting on the birth of our Lord and Saviour, singing along with those Angels. Tears flowing, hairs on the back of our necks standing. Experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit and the Glory of the Lord. Praise God.

We sang this song at school - oh bring back assembies to our schools - our children know very little of Christanity and parents find it tough themselves in the new world that crept on us quietly and slowly consuming us with the underworld 🥲

In the U.S., I grew up watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special, where they sing this hymn at the end. We actually did sing the 7th verse in church, but this is the first time I've heard 8, 9, and 10.

This is one of my favorites as well. I am currently going through Christmas hymns in my church this Advent Season. This hymn is this week's hymn. Very theologically rich. I sang this hymn as a child at Chicago First Spanish Church of the Nazarene and when my dad founded Mundelein Spanish Church of the Nazarene in Mundelein, IL, USA we sang it as well. Now I am the lead pastor at Mundelein Spanish COTN and we are signing on Sunday! Blessings!

Come, desire of nations, come; fix in us thy humble home. Rise the woman's conq'ring seed; bruise in us the serpent's head. Adam's likeness now efface, stamp thine image in its place. Second Adam from above; reinstate us in thy love. Hark! The Herald Angels sing, glory to the newborn king. This is a verse that is not found in most hymn books, but it is in some. It's actually my favorite verse

I remember hearing it coming out loud and clear over a big shopping centre's speakers, and thinking that despite my distress over the commercialisation of "Christmas", at least these powerful and detailed words were plainly audible to many who otherwise may never have heard.

Today, New Year's eve I was inspired to write verses of some carols as prayers in my journal for the coming year given the state of our world, and the anticipation of the second coming of our Lord. So much prophecy and hope for humanity in these songs. Then this evening I saw your videos, and they are so beautiful and rich! Thank you so much and God bless you for this ministry, and confirming what was was in my spirit today.

I started memorizing poems and hymns last year, and this November I decided to memorize Hark the Herald Angles Sing. I'm a sucker for tradition and original works so when I realized we don't sing the original version I had to look it up and memorize it instead. That verse with no rhymes though is brutal.

First time hearing about these additional verses. I'm somewhat sceptical about their origin, but I have no problem accepting that the more familiar verses were penned by Charles Wesley. I have known this hymn from childhood, & it's one of my favorites . Thanks, Pastor Luke, for today's presentation.

I have never heard the original words in the first verses, or the last verses. I think I prefer the “current” version, though every verse lifts up Christ as God incarnate and reflects the truth taught by scripture. Listening to the song song, whatever verse or version, lifts my heart in praise for our wonderful Savior and causes me to long for the day when, with the Angels we shall praise Him, though from that perspective unique to the redeemed!

Thanks Luke. You go to such a lot of effort to dig into the history of songs. Your program involves more than just history of a song, but you in it minister THE WORD OF GOD to us. Your way of ministry is followed the world over. It was a joy to have met up with you at your church last sunday by the carols by candle light service you held. I really enjoyed the occasion. Shalom. We shouldn't be so quick to blame Adam--"For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God." Rom 3:23. I've sinned enough to share around! I remember singing about crushing the serpent's head as a little girl. Yes, Isaiah 53 describes Jesus as being rather ordinary looking--might explain, at least in part, why His assassins felt the need to have Judas point Him out--but that verse doesn't matter to me--because of what He has done, He'll always be drop dead gorgeous to me! One of the joyful Mysteries is how Jesus with His unfathomable Love became a Revolutionary that turned history literally inside out. He still turns sin literally inside out today

Definitely always been one of my favourite Christmas carols but even the first verses you sang were not all the same as the ones we sing here in Australia & the last verses I have never heard before but they would have gone well with the tune he chose but not so fluid with the current tune. Also the old English is lost on us today!!

I think late in time means recently or not long ago. If you were to say something happened lately or as of late. In other words, it was of the current age. That might seem silly with it having been about 1800 years lol, but I really believe that's what he meant
