Make sure the EMGs are in the right slots...apparently they like to swap and put the 60 in the bridge and the 81 in the neck. The current models dropped the locking Grovers, sadly, and have replaced them with cheap non locking jin-ro (or jin-ho, don't remember).

Harley Benton is a great guitar company. My next guitar will come from them. I've had my eye on the very one you have but who knows. There is the money factor and times are tough right now. Not all of us have money to spare. Good video.

Fantastic video! I just love how brutally honest you are, you hardly get to see this on youtube these days! Whilst I love my Gibsons & ESPs, no doubt for a budget guitar HB really have stepped up. It's crazy how you are essentially just paying for the hardware, is the wood made of air?! haha

I have the guitar in vintage white, with a Roswell pickup. Although the EMG pickups should actually be in the Tribute Series according to the Thomann homepage ..... I think the Rosswels are better suited to my sound than the EMG, so I have not complained about it. But it's a super great guitar.

Interesting comment. Can you describe the Roswell actives you have to the EMG's, why are they better for you... What is good about them for your taste? I am about to pull the trigger on the Roswell version but would like to hear your thoughts first.

Ey an Explorer! The best shape!. Looks gorgeous in black. Pretty sure James uses an 81/85 set. Interesting that they mixed the 74 and 84 style of Explorer. The 84 has the toggle up by the knobs and the the 74 has the toggle on the horn, but with 3 knobs. Great video mate! Nice to see more HBs and an Explorer haha.

Ah I didn’t know any of this. The only thing I’d change in it is the pickups for some passive ones. I don’t get on with active pickups

@@PherotoneStudios yeah the volume and tone knobs are slight more forward too. No gut cut on em either. Are your actives too deep for you? I only play high gain for the most part but your pick-ups definitely sounded a lot darker than mine. Not sure of that's the amp tho haha. If I remember correctly I do have to turn the bass right down. But for metal, they are awesome. Great for Metallica obviously!

I bought this guitar after seeing this review. I dislike the shocking neckdive- so bad it is unplayable while standing, over filed nut causing a buzzing g string, gritty frets that feel horrible despite trying to polish them, bridge is positioned poorly meaning the intonation is maxed out. I've looked and I'm not the unlucky one, it seems there are far too many with the same issues or worse. The nexkdive is my biggest problem, the neck wants to point at 6 o'clock, I've never seen it so bad. I've tried weights, I've tried button positions etc but it can't be fixed, I have to loop the strap through my trouser belt.

the het set and the emg 81 60 DO NOT sound the same. are they similar ? yes ofc. but they are not interchangeable. i own both of them in a snakebyte and a esp LTD explorer

How low did the action went on the 12th fret before the work on the bridge, are we talking higher then 2mm low E and 1.5 high E or you meant it wasn't possible to get a very low action 1.6-1.2 mm ? Thx

Does anyone know if the Roswell active pickups can be directly swapped for EMGs without changing the electronics?

You have to change the electronics. The system used is different. If u wanna swap em, it'd be more economical to just get one with emgs anyways, seeing as a het set costs around €300.

There’s two different models, one with EMGs and one with Roswells. They put “EMG” at the end of the EMG one but I’m sort of wishing I bought the Roswell version as I’m not a big fan of EMGs. Stupid amount of guitar for the money

fyi, those pickups are chinese copies of course and they typically sell for less than $40 a set so don't expect original tone from them.

@@badtweed2087 thanks for the link… I’ll look into it, I see from their website they’ve put various pickups into these explorer bodies. The reason I remain doubtful that HB would use misleading copies labelled as something else, is the internet would be all over them in a flash.

@MacedoniaGamingNetwork - MGN There are multiple EMG copies and some are better at being close to looking and sounding authentic than others. Explain the significant price differential to those who might have doubts about the EMG and perhaps even the Grover tuners' authenticity.
