One common theme with your videos is that your guitars are out of tune… I’m not trying to be an ass, but it make it hard to listen to…maybe the intonation needs the be set?

Today I picked up a 24x8 with original box, mackie meter bridge with original box, and mackie desk/stand, all in great shape for $400. It is dusty and needs a complete strip down and clean. I see there are many here going through the trouble of doing the deep clean, so while the system is disassembled, I'm curious if anyone has re-capped the boards? Capacitors usually last 15 to 20 years before they degrade and change the circuit for the worse. Thoughts on recapping anyone?

Or just put a 10 band EQ between guitar and preamp and you can make your pickups sound any way you want.

Unfortunately putting a decal on always leaves a ridge where its been cut you have to do several coats of lacquer sanding each one to get level or pring your own on A4 transfer paper, pring in rhe middle and apply the full sheet, dry and cut alkng the headstock and clear coat for perfect finish. I use this when i restore original guitars.

They are so close that almost no one would be able to tell you’re switching pickups if they listened to the audio without the talking. Maybe only those with really good ears for tone I certainly wouldn’t be able to tell.

Copper + Alu is not the best idea. They form a galvanic couple, and Aluminum could corrode with the sweat from the hands

"This squier is the one to buy". Proceeds to change the pickups, the bridge and the whole wiring system, making it in the ballpark price of a 2nd hand highway one or even a lonestar Fender Strat. Talk about waste of everyone's time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Interesting neck pickup! Look up the Soapstack, it's a stacked coil P90, so the tap/split function of the tone control simply bypasses one of the stacked coils (as it does with one of the bridge pickup's coils). I'm guessing that the AlNiCo V/Ceramic hybrid magnet involves having one of each, as a P90 has two bar magnets (one on either side of the pole pieces). Clever!

In the case of the stratocaster, there is nothing better than the original fender bent steel saddles for sound, even so I use brass block saddles on my stratocaster, with stainless steel screws, more than anything for comfort and because my sweat destroys almost all metal, the brass lasts a long time and you only have to clean it from time to time.

I recently did an A/B/C test with three strats, all with late 50s- style pickups in them, and I have to say that on the looper when I listened to the playback, it could have been one single guitar playing all three samples, they sounded so similar. All 3 were enamel-coated wire, Alnico 5, with enough turns for a late-50s sound (probably around 8,000 turns on the neck), and the makes were Tonerider (pure vintage), Entwistle AS57, and Alnicov (from amazon, very cheap pickup but with cloth wire and all vintage specs etc - except the wire which was enamel-coated). I think heavy Formvar wire is a bit different due to the thick coating and although you can adjust the number of windings (and thereby the total inductance) so that you get the same general EQ peak frequency that you would with enamel, other values necessarily end up different and there will be subtle tonal differences and response differences. Most of Fender's very expensive pickups are the ones that use Formvar and it would be interesting to identify brands that offer low-cost pickups which also use Formvar. It's more expensive wire but it still should be possible since it's the time rather than the parts you tend to pay for. There are a few sellers on AliExpress who offer them. But other than that difference (heavy Formvar vs non) I can't see anything which a 'high-end' pickup maker could add to their standard strat pickups (above a Tonerider formulation) that would justify a big price difference, if they are using enamel wire. And even then it's not a quality factor but just a sound/response preference.

I bought one earlier this year. My first strandberg. Beautiful instrument top to bottom. Its so easy to play, the pickup are very articulate and versataile , the endure neck teahces u adjust your thumb to a more comfortable position. The only critique I can offer is it takes a little while mental to wrap your head around the concept of playing a headless guitar. It felt weird at first. I kept reaching for the head to tune up forgetting that the tuning pegs are at the bottom. 😅

The Toneriders are enamel wire vs heavy formvar on the Fenders. So the Toneriders are late 60s fender design but with the other specs aiming for the eq of the 50s pickups. With the formvar having less overall reactance as the coating is thicker, they should have a slightly faster response as less energy is being temporarily stored as capacitance and inductance. And there will be subtle tonal difference too.

The bridge pick up is not wired through the tone control from the factory. I wired it through the knob next to the pickup. Now the bridge is more versatile. Turn the tone down and add overdrive the guitar will sound like a Les Paul. I'll be installing a treble bleed soon . I try to keep things simple. Good video from Sacramento

I can hear a difference. I know how susceptible we as guitar players/people are to our own biases, so I did the test blind. I just fast forwarded and rewound at random with my eyes closed, listened and picked, then randomized again. 3/3. The no pickup sounds a bit more rigid and dirty to me. Not that it matters or is worth doing, but I do hear something 🤷🏼‍♂️
