Was talking to a luthier friend recently. He was showing me a Harley Benton with a chunky neck, and he said there's no reason for them to be that way, the truss rod is right up against the fret board. Since they started out with a chunky C shape, it's also super straight forward to sand them down into a D/U shape. You just grab a sharpie, draw a rough line down the center of the neck and start sanding down the center line back and forth. The marker lets you keep track of how evenly you're sanding, and you don't even have to move the sandpaper across the neck/off the center line while you're doing it, sticking with the center line you draw will give you a nice even D shape, Jackson style.

He doesn't understand that certain players like certain profiles. A Jackson style profile doesn't suit everyone. Paul Gilbert and Jeff Beck have used chunky neck profiles over the years. Warmoth offer the fatback and it's one of their most popular. The chunky necks on HB set them apart.

@@MikJames-d1g what I'm saying is your friend is saying 'take the chunky neck and create a Jackson style profile' when lots of people prefer chunkier necks. It's a bit pointless changing that to something more Jackson/Ibanez.

@@lenduckworth99 My "friend" is a luthier with decades of experience. The point is, Harley Benton is a great value even if you like thinner necks, you just need to put a bit of work in to get there. It's not pointless because HB is a better value than Jackson, but most people complain about the neck profile. It costs twice as much for a JS32 with a FR trem. Though you could argue resale value, I doubt JS32FR's hold much resale value anyways.

Real nice video and great sounding track you’re playing. I like how thorough your review is after three years of using it. Why is it that your headstock looks green instead of blue in this video, while your first video (4 years afo) of this same guitar clearly shows a blue headstock… did you swap out the neck of it, or did it discolour, or maybe reflect a green screen in your room? Cool looking affordable guitar and nice demo and review. I have ordered one and hope that the neck isn’t as bad as people mention. I also have a Kramer Striker with a pretty thick neck and expect it to be close to that. But like you, i also prefer the Schecter or Ibanez necks. It won’t be a deal breaker for me though. I also think that this guitar could benefit from a string tree. My Ibanez and Schecters have string trees too to provide a proper string angle for the locking nut and improve tuning stability. Great price for an entry level guitar with a floyd, and killer looks. This will be my first Harley Benton. Cheers ToroK 🤘😎🍻

Thanks ! I was surprised about your comment, I had not paid any attention to this difference of color between the head and the body of the guitar. When I made the first video I didn't have the same camera and the same lights, so that's a first point to explain the difference you noticed. I have sold this Harley Benton but I remerber there were something like small glitters on the headstock that can also explain this greeny color you see.

that guitar was my first one, i bought it because of the look but ask thomann if it was a good guitar for beginner and they said yes... just as you said it wasn't, and i don't know if it's mine but the string wouldn't stop to jump out (the thinner one) i bought a TE52 and it's perfect

Hi ToroK! I've been playing for about 13 years, currently my main guitar is a gibson les paul with a bigsby, but I'd like to get a run around guitar with a floyd rose trem to do some Van halen and Extreme style music, would you recommend this guitar for that? Or any alternatives?

Hi Max, so it sounds like you're not an early beginner any more :) This Benton would work pretty well for some Extreme, Van Halen or others music. At this price, you can't find better. If you're ok to put more money on the table (around 400€) You could also be interested in the Fusion III series or, since you've been playing a lot on single cut guitars, why not the Sc Custom FR.

There are 2 big differences between the S620 and the R446. First, the S620 comes with a FR only when the R-446 only comes with a hipshot style bridge. If you're not used to floyd roses, this might be an important detail for you to take in account. The other big difference is about the neck shape. Classic C with something like 22 to 24 mm thickness on the S620 vs modern C, close to the Ibanez Wizard III on the R-446 with 20 to 22mm thickness. You've also got to know that the pickups on the S620 have higher output. Apart from that, well these are 2 very good guitars to play. Hope this will help you chose :)

Hello, I am a intermediate player and would like to purchase a new guitar (superstrat) and if possible blue, like this one (it is so nice-looking). I ve been playing on a FR bridge slammer CT21 and quite liked the neck, it is thin, the size I prefer. Since you´ve said that this guitar has a thick neck I am a little afraid to choose this one, plus this guitar doesn´t have coil split which would be a feature that I´d enjoy (either coil split or HSH/HSS pickup configuration)... I´d rather buy a Fusion-III FR but there is not any available with Ocean Flame paint (the style of colour I want) so... Which guitars on thomann would you advise me to buy, for like 200~300 euro?
@ToroKchannel
@ToroKchannel Жыл бұрын
Hi Guilherme :) So, if I sum it up, you want a guitar with an Ocean blue paint, a thin neck and some pickups than can be splitted. Do you need / want a Floyd Rose or is it something you don't really care about ?

@@ToroKchannel The floyd rose bridge is a must :)) I like to play stuff that may require heavy use of the tremolo (80´s metal etc), like it can either be HH with coil split or HSS/HSH with no coil split. Regarding the color, it can be just blue! I quite liked the paint on the Harley benton CST-24 Ocean Flame (and on the S-620 too). Thanks for the reply!!

@@GuilhermeSantos2003 Ok well if the FR is a must for you, the best choice in your price range is definitely the Fusion III. Unfortunately, the color of the S 620 TB does not exist on any other Harley Benton. The CST 24T is a very good guitar but the trem will not offer you the same possibilities as a FR. Forget about the dive bombs ! Maybe a Kramer Pacer Classic RB would suit you but I don't know if it's a good guitar and how the neck feels - I'm gonna review a Kramer Assault 2020 in one or two weerks. Hope it helps !

The Fusion III is totally worth the extra money because of a real FR, stainless steel frets and even more if you go for a roasted maple neck. Both the S-620 and the Fusion III are worth every penny they cost.
