In this free DIY video we show you how to remove your Harley side transmission cover and an easy way to disconnect & then replace your Harley clutch cable inside. Make sure you have a new side cover gasket ready to go and some oil/fluid to replace what you loose when removing the side transmission cover. There is also a small rubber o-ring you might want to have on hand to replace where the clutch cable enters the side cover. It tends to get damaged during removal/install. It can be re-used if it looks like it's in good condition.

2014 & newer Harley Davidson's have hydraulic clutches, so this side transmission cover is just for looks and you'll lose no oil when removing it. There is just a bleeder valve for the hydraulic clutch line hidden behind it.

Just to ask what if you didn't rub some of that oil on the gasket would it still be ok?

Do you have to make sure that the outer ramp is positioned to the left, where the cable is not pulling on it, so that it basically is in the position where the handle bar lever is not in the pull position?

I have oil coming out of the clutch cable at the adjustment bolt that's covered by the weather boot. Any thoughts as to how the oil is getting in there?

I just recently replaced my clutch cable on 05 road king. During install I was able to adjust play of the cable pretty substantially, but after a couple rides it’s tightened up and even the loosest adjustment on the cable is like *justttt right. Any ideas?

Video was really handy this morning when my cable broke going through Dallas this morning. I gotta say though this is an asinine way to run something that breaks so often. Why would they think its a good idea to put a cable INSIDE the damned casing. I bought the road king because it had bigger bags than anything the BMW dealer could offer when my Victor finally got to worn down, but if this is how they design things I wont be getting another. This is a fairly common point of failure, it should be something easy to replace on the road side with a pair of pliers or two. It should not take half my tool roll and bumming a ride to the hardware store, because who cares a spare bottle of fluid.....

I am glad to see H-D decided to use snap ring to hold clutch actuator in place. Finally! Had sportster years ago. Took cover off, saw it was held in by punching and swelling lip. Didn’t even put back together. So disgusted I practically gave it away. Absolute junk workmanship
