This worked like a charm. Of course the placement still took good amount of thinking, careful planning, adjustment and improvising. But man!!! Just having this tool allowed for careful and proper load distribution so that you don’t bend anything. You are a genius!!! Million thanks!!!

Where did you get the washers? I am having a problem finding 1-3/4" and 1-7/8".
@Adamh21172 жыл бұрын
I have a 2018 tri-glide and I went with the same washers but used a 1/2"x3" carriage bolt. The 1/2" bolt holds the first 2 washers perfectly centered. While mine did not slide in easily a slight tap with a small hammer seated the gaskets without deforming them. I used a user's comment looking at a shorter bolt and the 3" bolt gave me just enough room on the front cylinder to get it in and then tap it into place. This saved me a world of headaches.

DOOOOOOD! I'm so glad that I found this video. I just finished an exhaust install on my '08 Ultra Classic. I couldn't find the exact washers as listed but I got pretty close. I installed my tapered gaskets perfectly the first time since I took your advice. I can definitely see how it would be damned near impossible to get them in without damaging them without this tool. I would love to buy you a beer but since I can't a sub will have to do. Thanks a lot, brother!

Good idea, gave me the idea to use a large rubber stopper I have. The cone fits nicely on the stopper. Only problem is that my exhaust port measures 1.0895 while the gasket measures 1.0947 = no go. I'll kink the side a bit to get it in then press the gasket back out to opening.

Great hack...went out and purchased the items today. The rear cylinder gasket went in slick as snot. The front, not as easy because the frame and reflector got in the way. It started it enough though and pushed it in the rest of the way with no problem. I think I am going to make another "stubby model" for the next time. Thanks

Never owned a Harley before in my life and just purchased a custom chopper with a EVO motor..never owned a harley and was working on the exhaust the other day...studs were jacked up..so I pulled the pipe out and said to myself..what do we have here. It looked like someone had tried to "wrap" the exhaust and the remains were around the cylinder hole..so I proceeded to yank that biotch out only to find out later, that was the exhaust gasket..never seen one before like that ..but now I know..and knowing is half the battle......wait for it.

Where did you find the 1 3/4 x & 1 7/8th x 1/2 Washers? Part numbers at what stores? Every Box store near me in Illinois did not carry them! Help others as I wasted a entire day driving all over. Autozone loand tools for free. I ended up getting a wheel bearing race installer kit on loan and used the 50mm die to easily install the Gasket by hand. Took me much longer to wait in line to get the tool kit then it was to install it.

I've been trying for months to find a 1 7/8" od flat washer in any size id. They must be stored with the unicorn tears because Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Fastenal and all of the local small hardware stores don't stock it. Hey Tony ! Great info, Im about to do an exhaust wrap on my 2013 Iron and also Ill try to find the source of some chirping sound my bike makes mostly on idle and deceleration... Do I need to get 2 or 4 exhaust gaskets for the job? I dont know if the stock cross-over tube thing has gaskets too LOL. As always thanks for your help man!
@TonysGarage7 жыл бұрын
You will 2 head gaskets and 2 for the crossover. What kind of exhaust are you going with?
@RGimeldo7 жыл бұрын
Same one, stock exhaust, I bought the bike with stock baffles removed, sounds loud enough for now. I mainly want to the rid of the chirping sound which breaks my balls, and since Ill have the whole thing out Ill also paint the cross-over tube (its all rusty because the previous owner had it in his garden while using V&H Short Shots) and replace the gaskets of course. Thanks bro
@tommylitchfield3450 Жыл бұрын
If you put the gasket in the freezer overnight, it will have a slightly smaller diameter, until it warms up, of course, which will make it easier to seat, but you gotta seat the seal right away, or you just wasted your time. It definitely helps.

You don't need all of this shit. Just get some fine sand paper and smooth out the exhaust port... remove any debris or crap stuck to it. Wipe it out with a rag. Then, start evenly inserting your new gasket with your fingers... press it in gradually and uniformly all around with your thumb. Takes about 10 minutes to do it, plus you won't F up the edges of your expensive new gaskets using this tool with sharp edges.
