For anyone seeing this way after the fact, Advanblack now sells a plug and play ST fairing, color matched to your bike, and ships with one of several mounting kits depending on your softail model.

Pro tip: when drilling the holes, get a strong magnet, wrap in a cloth rag, and have it directly under where you're drilling. This catches 99% of the shavings and the rag makes it so when you remove it from the magnet the shavings are captured. Old fabricator showed me this many years ago...

the amount of cost and labour that HD owners are willing to put up with to manually upgrade their bike to something that HD could have easily just made it as plug and play is amazing

Harley did make it. But some people aren’t satisfied.
@dormantmenace2 жыл бұрын
Ya the point was for you to buy a st.. not a s and upgrade later.. same thing car manufactures do with 3rd suv now.
@brindlebeard2 жыл бұрын
I agree that HD should have some level of support for their base of customers. Knowing that it was those customers who were asking for a fairing in the first place. Harley heard and released the new ST. The dick move is not allowing other LRS owners access to the parts ie. Bags and Fairing.
@wesleyrodda6062 жыл бұрын
having a vin lock on a bike that is the only one that offers a Fairing for the LRS is kinda dumb. The amount of money that could be made if all parts were available for LRS that the ST has is a big miss on HD part… Deopped the ball on that one.

Nice work! I believe HD vin locking some of the parts will ultimately just fuel an aftermarket company to refine their designs. And likely at a lower cost to owners than buying straight from the MOCO.

I noticed that on my 2022 low rider s that those holes that you drilled in the beginning for the fairing bracket are already drilled on my frame but just covered up with removable plastic caps....interesting. 🤔 Should make bolting up the st fairing more simple in theory then.

might it have the holes for the bracket that he had to weld on?

@blockhead BLOCK. Do you know if this is plug and play on a '22 FXLRS? I bought mine right before they announced the FXLRST. My FXLRS seems to have plugs in the hole you had to drill. Edit: I just checked the frame on my bike and it has the upper holes drilled and plugged AND it has the lower holes drilled, tapped, and plugged. So, I'm like 99% certain that if you have a '22 and newer FXLRS, you can do this job without modifying the frame on your bike. You just have to acquire the parts.

Been trying to do this for my Sport Glide, but between the cost and the VIN lock issue, I'm not sure. Gotta do something though because the Harley options for a windscreen are too short. The after market Slipstream windshield I did get has the clutch cable wearing through on the left and it cut into the finish on my front brake master cylinder on the right.

Buried in HD forums there are people that have documented that type of conversion. I believe it was a batwing to shark change though. It was also pre Rushmore. Point being the parts can be ordered and at least previously did not have vin lock concerns. Good luck if you do it. The post I recall of it did this over a winter.

After watching this video, and seeing all the "what's involved" and what it takes to mount the 2022 FXLR-ST Fairing [on a non-ST soft-tail], it has me believing that this was purposely designed/engineered/constructed to keep it as a FXLRST item only; hence some of the parts being VIN-Locked items. One might imagine that they [HD] must have presumed that many HD customers with non-ST's would/might want to install this Fairing on their non-ST bikes. Presuming one could obtain the parts, the Labor from a HD Dealer to install this would be, could be pretty expensive. Interested to know how how many hours of Labor you needed to accomplish this? Of course with a non-ST headlamp, that's additional time (and you mentioned to be covered on a future video). Thanks! Tom. M., So. Cal.

I don't know if you can get a trademark on bracketry and/or fairing design, but unless you can't I see a decent niche for some aftermarket company to make them so that people wouldn't have to resort to using other bikes' VIN numbers to order them. I get why Harley does it, they want to sell the ST versions and prevent people from buying the S version and just putting on the fairing, but Harleys have always been about modifications so in that sense it's a BS move on their part.
