Harley Davidson Night Rod Exhaust Comparison: V&H Comp 2-1 vs. Trask Assault 2-1

Just installed a new Trask exhaust. There is surprisingly very little info out there on the Trask Assault for the Night Rod, so I figured I might as well do a comparison to the exhaust I previously had on the bike for a frame of reference. Both clips were taken the same day, a few hours apart.

I just recently bought the Trask exhaust system. When mounting the headers to the engine, the bracket won’t fit flush against the engine correct? I know on the original exhaust headers the bracket fits snug to the engine just not sure on the after market as the heads are a bit bigger then the original. Any help would be very much appreciated. If memory serves, I believe you are correct. As long as you had your exhaust gaskets seated properly and have the exhaust bolts tightened properly, you should be good to go.

@@zxJoe7r okay the brackets don’t fit flush to the engine which I’m fine with. Just was told by someone else that they need to fit flush but feels like it’s kind of hard for them too as it’s a lot bigger headers tip and hey I’ve tried pushing the tips in the engine and screwing the nuts on the bracket as tight as I could without stripping to get the bracket to touch the engine but there not touching haha. Been trying for the last few hours and I’m fed up with it and all this time you saying I had it right? Omg where’s the wooden mallet to hit me in the head haha cheers 🍻

@@Zyvses I should be in the garage tomorrow and can check mine again. I seem to recall being left with a small gap on each header. I made an effort to make sure the gap on both sides were the same, and that both headers had approximately the same size gap.

Does the V and H have a deeper/more throaty sound or is it just the way the camera pics it up? Or is it just quieter than the trask?

In my opinion, having heard them both in person on the same day, the V&H has a smoother deeper tone and it is also quieter, but not by much. The Trask also has a deep tone but is more aggressive sounding and has more "attack", if that makes sense. Biggest thing for me is that the Trask has great ground clearance for cornering. I got tired of scraping the V&H.

Thanks for posting this video. I am looking to rid of my V&H comp as well due to scraping on right lean angles. I have a 2013 NRS Supercharged by TTS. Does the trask scrape as well? Also what are your opinions on the Bassani RR1. Also your bike looks soooooo clean love the handle bar!

Your bike must be an absolute beast! I have only ridden the bike once with the Trask fitted, so it would be tough to say for sure. However, based on how it is mounted higher up and tighter on the bike, I do not expect to have any clearance issues. I will put it through its paces this season. I have heard really good things about the Bassani RR1 from a performance standpoint, but I don't have any personal experience with it. I have heard people claim that it is one of the best pipes to get max power from a naturally aspirated V-Rod/Night Rod. I personally like the look of the shorter pipes, purely from an aesthetic standpoint. I'm not too concerned about max power. If I were, I would perhaps go the route you have with a turbocharger/supercharger.... Thank you for the kind words about the bike. 🙏

@@zxJoe7r the Bassani is top notch for Forced Induction bikes to maximize power(funny you said N/A) I’ve read that it really benefits heavily modified motors. They sound amazing in person. If you have Air suspension then it doesn’t scrape on turns unless you really lean the bike to a crazy angle. Shorter pipes are cool looking but they really hinder the performance of these bikes. I have Bassani pipes on my bike and I love them!!!

I am a total noob. What is the cable that goes into the top of the V&H exhaust? I dont have that on mine, 13 vrsxdx, bought used

No worries. That's the cable for the air/fuel sensor that reports back to my Power Commander 5. There's one on each header pipe.
