RG vs. SG. Sharknose vs. Batwing. And the winner is ... 🥁 🥁 🥁...Roadking!

I ride a street glide but I agree with you. The road king is the best Harley in my opinion. It’s timeless. It never looks outdated. That being said, I love the fairing with the stereo. 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I've owned 3 batwings over the years. Just recently bought a 22 cvo road glide limited. Honestly I truly believe if my eyes were closed I don't think I'd really notice much difference. I know people say they feel like they have more room on the road glide but that's not the case. Same bike where you sit. I love both and don't think you can go wrong with either. At the end of the day please yourself. You're the one making the payments so it has to make you happy.

I like when I turn the bars the headlight moves with the bars.

If you were going anywhere over 20 mph, probably 15 actually, if you turn the handlebars enough for the light to turn you have fucked up. At highway speeds I bet nobody moves their handlebars more than 5°, which means you won't perceive your headlight moving.

I’ve owned both. Had an 03 Road Glide for fifteen years. Bought a Street Glide standard in eighteen. And a Street Glide Special in twenty one. The Road Glide was more stable in cross wind. But I like the looks of the Street Glide. Yes I’m a slave to fashion, enjoy your video’s.

I used to be one of those “street glides are better” guys. But since I started working at a Harley dealership, I re-discovered the reason I started riding. Motorcycles are fun! Don’t care what it looks like. I just enjoy the freedom they all represent! Love your videos brother, keep them coming!

I went the SG vs RG test ride route; I didn't want to borrow or rent, so test riding was the only answer. I loved how the RG felt in the cockpit, but loved the classic look of the SG looking at it from the front. The dealer asked, "What will make you happiest when you look at it in the garage?". Good point. BUT... I spend most of my time enjoying the bike behind the bars. So, I went with a Road Glide. And, after a year, I am super happy with how it looks in my garage too! So, win-win! (side note #1: I got rear-ended a month ago and the bike was totaled. So, now I'm on my 2nd RG. No turning back for me.) (side note #2: I am 5' 7" and the radio is a bit of a stretch, but 90% of the time I just use the handlebar controls.) (side note #3: I AM in Colorado; I don't know how a SG fairs, but the RG has a good deal of buffeting in high wind.)

My first batwing was an 85 Electra-Glide. I owned that bike for 17 years and accumulated upwards of 250k miles. I got away from Harley for a few years but when I came back in 2010 it was to a Street Glide. When the new shark nose came out in 2015 I took a test ride. I bought the shark and have had 2 more since, lol. I'm on a 2019 Road Glide now and will probably stick with it until I hang it up. All that to say that I've owned both and loved them but since riding the shark I've never looked back. The only issue I had with low speed maneuvering was on some 10 mph switchback turns. I turned the bars at the first one and the fairing didn't turn. It rattled me for a fraction of a second until I reminded myself this bike didn't do that. To each his own.

On a Street Glide, you feel the road in your arms and shoulders, on a Road Glide you feel it in your seat. The fairing transfers the wind and road feel to the chassis or frame.

Excellent video for someone that’s never owned either one of these bosses. I’ve got a 2000 1200C that I love to sprint around on and have promised myself I wouldn’t upgrade to an adult scoot until I retire. This was an exceptional video with content and information that really matters to the rider. Heck, I never even thought about “effects of weather” as a consideration between the two. Keep up the great work!

One of the advantages of the batwing I never see mentioned is that you can point the headlight without turning the whole bike. Maybe its just me, but I have found that to be a nice convenience when picking a campsite and setting up after dark, or helping wrench on a buddies bike in a parking lot. No need to get off the bike w/ a flashlight or turn the whole thing to light up an area.

Very correct. If you like wind in the face but not on the chest, then road glide it is. If you like protection from the weather, then batwing is perfect. I own both, along with a road king, and i can say living up north i get more protection on the king with a 21" windscreen and soft lowers over the glide.

I owned both too. Love the road glide over the street glide for my size. Street glides are nice for bigger people but I found I got worn out quicker on them. The road glide is the easiest slow speed bike I’ve ridden. I love my road glide will never change to another bike!!

I’ve had two bat wings and one shark and you are spot on. The main reason I went back to a bat wing is because riding in the rain is so much better with a bat wing bike.

I currently live in Wyoming. I own a yamaha royal star venture kinda like the street glide .the wind gets pretty bad here sometimes. I don't have a problem riding in the wind. When the bike weights over 800 lbs it doesn't push you around much. Yes you can feel it but not enough to stop riding the bike all together and go get a fixed fairing.

The BEST explanation of the two! I to have owned both and I gotta agree with you 100%. I love the shark nose faring, but personally, I like the look of the batwing faring more. But, I have owned more shark nose than batwing, and currently have a Road Glide. Preference is all it is! Thanks for the video.

I started riding 26 months ago at age 49. First motorcycle was 08 Electra Glide classic. 10 11 months later I traded into a 22 RG. I put 23k miles total on both bikes. I love the RG because it’s newer, M8 with upgrades instead of twin cam with upgrades to the engine I mean, significantly more torque and power. It’s easier at low speeds but on I75 between leesburg and Ocala and Gainesville it gets blown around seemingly a lot more than the Electra Glide did. Pushed around a good deal. But if the wind is down low and not blowing, then the RG is just more enjoyable and modern feeling. You are spot on with all the commentary, but especially with regards to which one wins. I really loved the EG Classic, and I will never forget learning and becoming competent at both low speeds and regular riding on it. Dream come true. But I also just love the heck out of the RG, it looks killer, it’s fast, feels lighter in the controls, the features like the touch screen is more fun. So they are both winners like you said!

I've only had a batwing since 2001. Currently have the 2022 Ultra Apex. Most of the miles are on the interstate at 80mph (or better). Unless you practice your slow speed drills regularly you will be a duck walker at campgrounds with a fully loaded bike. And yes everyone will laugh at you. For me the shark nose feels like I'm sitting in the rear seat. The handling is way better at walking speed but at speed you feel the wind constantly

Very interesting my comparison is between the CVO Street Glide and the Road King, your right at low speed the Street Glide feels like it has a flat tire when you get off the Road King - but, at 75mph you want to be on the Street Glide. I run the Road King without a windshield

I'm a batwing guy forever. Road Glide might be tempting with a light kit on the forks. The old Tour Glide was a mistake. They were UGLY. That is one of the reasons I'm not fond of the sharknose fairing. If you have never seen a Tour Glide, the Road Glide would probably be okay. Love dancing with my 98 Ultra Classic Electra Glide.

I ride a trike, medical reasons. When i first bought it it had the batwing it was a decent ride ib the rain it did help, but a couple years ago i change it out for a shark nose and boy tlyou talk about work! But i digress now harley has a roadglide trike and while it is more streamlined it has less storage. I also switched out the touring pack for the razor but all and all it feels less bulky but it handles great. I have done quite a few up grades. But i love my shark nose because of comfort. I am tall 6'7" and it feels less cramped in the seated position now. Thanks for the video subscriber for life.

Both good bikes. Also ridden both. Went with a Streetglide. Fairing being closer was a big reason (I'm 5'8). Many prior years on fixed fairing sportbikes. Being able to touch the screen easily when you couldn't be bothered toggling on hand controls saves reach. I also prefer the look. Classic Harley with a batwing. More compact and no big hole between forks and fairing. But I will say Roadglide fairing storage wins hands down. 2 big cubbyholes vs 1 that can't even hold a modern sized smartphone. Ride and enjoy what you have. 👍

I live in Kansas and ride an older (2001) Electra Glide. There have been times when I've jumped off the highway onto surface streets due to nearly 60 mph winds. But in my case, I'm attributing that to lack of experience. Decades back when I was stationed out in SoCal, I had two different bikes, an 883 Sportster (I'm 6’4” picture a monkey and football) and.....i hate to say it, a Honda interceptor. The winds there, the Santa Anna’s, gust to mid 40’s on average. I was riding every day there and had a lot of experience dealing with that stuff. Never had a problem. Fast forward 30 years, no seat time in between due to being the responsible parent and such, I finally got another bike and had the money to get what I wanted instead of settling for what I could afford. I had to relearn almost everything. So catching up and knocking off the rust. Long story short, it's the rider not the bike when it comes to wind. Know your limits and learn to overcome them

My neighbor rides a '99 Ultra Classic. His bars shake a bit over 90mph. We have decided that it's because his batwing has been on and off so many times that it's probably not sitting perfectly. So even if it's off by a few degrees, the wind at high speed will want to "straighten" it, and he'll try to hold the bars (and forks) straight, causing the oscillating.

This was so well done. Both are such great bikes. I bought the Street Glide as my first Harley and 5 years later have 28K miles on it. I chose it because I simply loved the dash a lot better and the Road Glide just seemed far away. It was a "looks" thing. Having now ridden it a bunch, the weather / rain implications are real. I'll stay SG.....but for an upcoming trip out of state I did rent a RG just to experience the other option. Great work Mr. Monkey

I have ridden a Road King for 25 years but wanted a second bike for long trips. My wife and I rented an Ultra and a Road glide Ultra in Maryland and road down the blue ridge parkway and into Tennessee and NC on some of the popular roads there and back up to Maryland. We switched up on both bikes during the trip. I am 6'2" and found the RG to be more stable, better in slow speed maneuvers, and it just felt like it had more room where the Ultra felt just a little cramped. I ended up buying a RGS and added a Tour pack. I have no regrets but my favorite bike to hop on a go for a quick putt or bomb some backroads is the RK for sure and if I could only keep one bike it would be the RK. Just add a tour pack which we did and the Mrs. now rides that on trips. We sometimes switch it up just to relieve some stress on a long day. The Mrs. is 5'10" just for reference.

"Brian, which do you prefer, Street Glide or Road Glide?" I like BIKES! I grew up riding dirt bikes, sometimes loaner street bikes for the Motorcycle Education Course my dad ran out of UNC in Greeley, Colorado. I love all styles (as long as they're Kawasaki or Harleys, I rode and grew to dislike Suzuki's and Yamahas, didn't like the styling or feel)! You can't take any of the 'glides off road. And I love off-road biking still, to this day. And enduros aren't made for 500+ mile trips. If I had the money, I would have a "stable" of different bikes (except maybe the sport bikes, I'll wrap myself around a tree with one of those, lol). I'd have my straight up dirt bikes, my eduros (now known as multi-purpose), and adventure bike or two, a Vulcan, a fat boy, a GPz1100 if I can find one (yeah, I know, a sport bike, but even at 1100cc, the GPz didn't have the gearing to do 300mph!), and of course my Electraglide Ultra Classic. Oh, yeah, and between you and J.E.T. Film (KZbin creator), I need to do a cholo. Oh, and Probably a chopper, lol. Also, I live in SE Wyoming, high winds like, ALL. THE. TIME! I only have experience with the Bat Wing style, a wind-screen like on a Road King, and no fairing at all. As such, I pick the Bat Wing, and the protection it offers. Great video though. One that really, for once, is truly knowledge-driven about the truth. The best one of the two, is the one that you believe is best for you.

As one who has road many types of bikes with fixed and bat wing fairings, I can say you hit the nail on the head. as for the wind I lived in California for a few years, and the wind is brutal out there. but I never had any trouble with it, I think it's the rider not the wind. OK i’ve had multiple Harleys. I live in Colorado 8000 feet moved here with my electric glide batwing right. And they’re having times when it’s been a severe crosswind I mean like over 60 miles an hour where it affects the riding and yes you do get buffed from the side and yes it moves you around a bit. Now I haven’t owned a road glide or the shark nose fairing, but I have ridden several at high speeds and they don’t block as much wind either to me. I’m relatively short I’m 5 foot eight. But I’ve been riding bikes since I was a kid I’m 65 now and I know how to handle bikes and Highwinds. And I have ridden in really shitty weather and my fair has definitely saved my ass. Because I do like to cross country. So since I like both, I guess I need to buy the shark Nose just so I can have both. Nice video brother.

Yeah, I've heard these debates for over 30 years. It's really simple. You ride the bike you like. You ride the bike that feels the most comfortable to you. You ride the bike that suits you best. Doesn't matter if that's a Road or Street Glide, a Goldwing, a Duke or a Grom. What the bike that makes you happy. I love my Road Glide when I want the advantages of a fairing - protection, radio/navigation, etc. Yet, I still love my Road King and I ride that because it doesn't have a fairing. It's a pure, raw motorcycle experience. Neither is better or worse. Here's your next video install project - upgrade that RG Sony stereo to the SoundStream HDHU.14si! This sucker is da bee knees, baby!

I had a 2016 SG -got rid of it in 2018. Last October 2022 I was in market for a new bike again. When I did 2 test rides on the RG I was not impressed. Told them to let me know when they get a SGS. well a couple of weeks went by and I was like you know I already had a SG I want something different this time around. Bought a 22 RGS and could not be happier. Love this damn bike To me when cruising feels lighter and better to maneuver. So glad I went RG this time. About my only complaint is the placement of the Speedo you have to look down instead of just underneath the windshield. I think this is dangerous. They should somehow incorporate the speedometer in the infotainment center. Otherwise I’ve got my urge to ride all the time again. 😊

I've ridden both, but I have only owned a couple Road glides. I like them and don't concern myself with witch is better. I ride what makes me happy.

Shouting from Los Angeles to all fellow riders. You made perfectly valid points about these 2 different touring bikes. I own the 2020 Police Electra Glide and also 2022 Road Glide Limited. They both are the same family touring bikes and each bike has unique characteristics as you mentioned. I enjoy riding both bikes alternating whenever I want to. The main reason why I purchased RGL was to help my shoulder ergonomically after had my right shoulder surgery done last year [stock handlebar helps relax my shoulders when I am riding], I regret I didn't buy the 2018 CVO Road Glide Gunship Grey and I jumped on the 2022 RGL with Gunship Grey color 😍 I always enjoy your content and support your channel 👍🏼 Always, safe ride🤟🏼

Good video, finally someone said " buy the one you like". I loved the pre rushmore road glides, and hated the batwing. Fell in love with the new style, and got a 2014 Limited. 2015/2016 rode a couple road glides and other than stereo being further away and low speed weight was different. Both bikes are made to go the distance.

I’ve owned both. Everything you say is true. Street glide is far less forgiving at low speed. You never stop with bars not straight or you’re going down. Road glide need great rain gear.

Have an ultra glide limited. They both look good. The main difference I found was I didn’t like the long reach to the controls of the road glide and I don’t like the handle bar setup of the road glide. I do like the storage better on the road glide with two storage boxes in the front fairing.

I'm showing up 22 hrs late, Monk... and I'm sure someone has said it already, but if you took the klockwerks off the SG and put a shorty windshield on it like you have on your RG, wouldn't it suck just as bad in a tropical downpour? Wouldn't the RG be better than it is currently if you threw a 14' klockwerks on it? With that being said, before I bought my bike a couple weeks ago, I went to my 2 buddies and got the pros/cons. 1 went from a breakout style custom bike to an Ultra, the other went from a SG to a RG. I decided the biggest factor for me was getting thrown around by wind buffeting when passing semi's on the highway, so I went with the RG. But it comes down to personal choice, just like anything else.

It’s about the distance to the fairing. Windshield height aside, if the fairing is far way from you the weather gets over it.

@@ProfessionalMonkey Fair enough, I don't have the klockwerks yet, but I've heard the guys with those and memphis shades and clearview windshields say that little recurve just creates the turbulence and kicks the air up over you... wasn't sure if that applied to torrential Florida rain, also.. hahaha

Finally someone that says on video the same thing I've been saying. My road glide sucked in the rain!! Unless I was over 65 mph I got soaked on the road glide. And then even with lowers the fairing throws the water off the sides right onto your knees. I felt the road glide God pushed around by wind as well but you didn't feel it being pushed around like a bat wing or a road king with a windshield. My Road king was so much better in the rain than my road glide was. I loved my road glides but. Being a die hard rain or shine warm or cold I went back to a road king and now on a street glide.

I can relate to 'kissing the windshield' in nasty rain as I've done many times on my Kawasaki Nomad 1600... I now keep a Harley 'Aviator' 3 way lid for shit weather in my tour pack when doing long road trips since I now have a Road Glide. I wear my beanie style (yes it's DOT) the rest of the time.... but mostly I just pull up a neck scarf over my nose and suck it up. Here in Canada we have our own special weather related issues...it ain't south Florida that's fer sure!! 😉

If you put a lot of miles on your bike and you can only afford or have room for one, Street Glide all day. You did a great job on the video, but missed one thing the visual as you're sitting on the bike, I also enjoy the visual when I'm in the riding position of the Batwing

The answer is Road King😎 Nah great video and all are great. I’ve had couple Street Glides and an 2000 CVO RG and two Kings. As far as the fairings go i still prefer the RG but i think that bat wing looks better. Actually my wife told me to not get the Road Glide few years ago so of course i had to… ride safe all!

If it’s on 2 wheels I love it . Does even matter to me what it looks like . Heck most people today would rather not ride as to ride some of the bikes I have over the years . The first street bike I had was like a 1966 Honda Dream. The electric starter didn’t even work and the kickstarter was broken off. Had to put it on the center stand and in first gear and pull up on the rear tire to start it . Unless I was lucky enough to park it on a hill to roll it off of to coast start it. 😊 It usually would take a few times pulling up on the wheel to get it to start but I’d stay there doing it until I got it started. Whatever it took just to get those knees in the wind

I had a 2017 Road Glide Special. I wanted to upgrade to the 2023 RGS. I went to the dealership to test ride a few. I took out the RG ST and I honestly did not feel a difference between the new one and mine. They happened to have a 2022 SGST as well. I had never ridden a SG before. I asked them to let me take a test ride and I was surprised at the difference. From what I read the SG is 1" longer and I don't know why. My test ride revealed to me that the SG was more sporty in its handling, smoother over bumps and easier to ride. Now I use my Harleys for long distance and frequent freeway travel so wind protection was a concern. I of course have heard all of the comparisons and need the best of the two. I ended up buying the SG and immediately took a ride from TN to MI which was also its break-in. That gave me 1200 miles to assess. I did not notice a bit of difference in wind protection. Side winds caused no ill effect etc. In the end the SG is smoother, handles better, easier to see controls, equal wind protection or better and less weight on the front end. Don't get me wrong I loved my RGS but I do prefer the new SGST.....just my two cents.

Had 4 batwings and 5 shark, long days on the highway the Roadglide rules, less fatigue, batwing can protect you a little from the elements, and for people that say the screen is to far away on the RG, use the dam Controls on the handlebars, and mount the cell on the handlebars, I hardly look at that screen, Love my 22 RG Spec Reef Blue/Vivid Blk/ Chrome
