Yep some of the work I've seen come outa dealers is horrible. There's no excuse for putting on a tire backwards, it's just someone not paying attention.

Hey my man Love the videos another great one, yeah that's just pure carelessness, Dealers have no compassion for other people's motorcycles ..I have experienced since I've been riding my 30 years. That's why I do all my service myself. And I'm like you and I would love to you to be local if I really need any engine work because I like the old bikes myself, having a 2005 Fatboy. PS... Nice find I'm sure you made your friend extremely happy!!😊

@@tinkeringwithharleyshope you and the family are well I do remember you saying that your son's bike is a fat boy wasn't sure what year I thought it was an '05 also? Just wanted to know if that year bike especially 15th year anniversary needs a spacer on the compensator or cut the nut 030"?? Just to make the correct torque clamp, heard even though it's torqued it's not tight I have a banging when a bike gets warm and hot and it's a knocking, scared me . Sounded like a lower bearing. ..😮 But I think I narrowed it down to the spring pack Just let me know if any washes were needed behind that compensated bolt, sorry for the length thanks buddy!

PS after I put my cams in it sounds like a Chevy 350 lol My ND says gears make noise Rich wake up lol I love it. Just got to get over the noise, run strong 1550cc Andrews 37 g's ,fueling cam plate, high flow oil pump, fueling lifters.

My son's bike is a 08. If memory serves there isn't any washer or spacers on the 05. The compensator you have are known for going out and they usually start making noise when they warm up. Hope that helps.

@@tinkeringwithharleys I do, I unfortunately havent gotten to working on it again due to being very busy at work, and our garage got packed with a lot of different building supplies giving me very limited space to work, but I'm planning to order a few part I need, especially the rear master cylinder costing about $110, and the breather bolts for the HD evolution and maybe some other parts also. But I will keep you posted once I'm working on the bike again.

That scenario is exactly why it's been eons since any of my bikes have been inside a dealership. These places don't put their best guys on most projects. And many are not professional techs and never will be. Failure to properly tighten fasteners is a bush league screw-up. Doing this correctly was probably taught on day one in Harley mechanic class. If I do my own work I *KNOW* that everything was done right or if I wasn't sure at least I know what to be checking every time I go on a ride. That aside, fluid changes are so easy and so inexpensive to do yourself I don't know why everyone doesn't do them. If that drain plug fell out on the highway it could turn out to be a very expensive repair and of course the dealership would disavow any responsibility for their mistake. As an aside, I am an old man, probably older than you. I'm just now getting into the ECU and learning about fuel mapping and so on. Yes, it's complicated but once you understand it, it's actually a lot easier to properly tune the engine compared to pre-fuel injection models. Being "too old" to learn is a cop-out, my friend. The technology has been around for well over 20 years. You'll find that keeping up with the times isn't all that difficult and there are a lot of resources out there for you to learn this stuff.

Couldn't agree with you more on the carelessness of work on something simple. As far as the technology goes, I'm not copping out. I like the old bikes. I could learn it if I wanted to, I don't want to at this stage of my life. I'm 73 and have no desire to learn computers or invest any money in computer software. I'll stick to carburetion. Thanks for you're comment and thanks for watching. Ride safe.

I got burned by the dealership having my tires replaced. They put my rear tire on backwards. My bike, '04 Road King, handled terribly and the tire slid when stopping. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. So far that's the only thing my bike has been to the dealership for, I assumed tire rotation wouldn't be something they'd mess up, but like you said, they don't put their best on the basic stuff.

If it’s the H-D dealer just outside of PV, I had more than one bad service experience with them when I lived out there. Glad it was a quick fix. Screw ups like that are unacceptable in my opinion.

Shops get over whelmed and they look at 3 bikes forget to add oil , Something I always do . but had Hay to get Cut rake and bail before I could take off on my Road trip I had him do a Tire rear brake and oil . he did the tire break and new filter . I seen oil on the floor a box for the filter I should of pulled the dip stick , no oil he drained it but never added the new oil . I cooked a Engine with 35,000 miles on it , Sad part the Dummy light never lit up .
