Just a lady named Sally working on her 1984 FXRS with high compression engine that seems to always have issues.

Who the hell is Ironhead Sally? Well here's my channel description:
Old School Bikes and Old School Ways! Ride hard, wrench a lot, and always having a blast.
Bike camping, wrenching, and shenanigans. My husband and I create motorcycle content for people that are tired of seeing all of the fake insta accounts of sponsored boring yuppies. Here's some realness, we are just broke bikers living the low life and getting by. I ride a 1985 Ironhead Chopper as my daily, my touring bike is a 1984 FXR. We have lots of Ironheads and FXRs and are constantly building more, trying to keep these old neglected scoots on the road instead of rotting away in a garage.
Appreciate all the love & support
Keeping it Real! Keep it Sketchy!
FTW💚Sally

I had to do the same to my panhead. Now I run a 24t / 48t sprockets. It absolutely helped the high end but I sacrificed a bit on the bottom. There's always a sacrifice 😂😂😂 great video

I appreciate your videos! I think the new bikes especially baggers are like riding marshmallows. I prefer my old chopper however I did get in a fight with a gard rail a month ago. And the gard rail won so I was forced to ride a road glide to a chopper show. But I wasn't the only bagger there and all the choppers looked trailered it was kinda disappointing.

Another fun video! Thanks, Sally! I had oil leaks in the rocker boxes of my '96 FXSTC recently, and when we opened up the rocker boxes to put in the new gaskets, we found the rocker arms, valves, and pushrods were wearing. So, we ended up doing a top end. I can't believe how much it quieted the mechanical noise from the engine. The only thing I can hear now is the exhaust and the intake pulling air into the carb. I feel the same way you do about the older bikes: "Wrench, Ride, Repeat!!"

I can't stress enough that Evolution Engines with the 3 piece rocker covers, need these gaskets replaced on a regular basis. Sportster or Big Twin, doesn't matter, the 3 piece covers WILL leak, not IF, but WHEN. T.S. RACING 🏁

I love your videos Sally. When I hear you talk about the raw and simplicity of the vintage bikes it reminds me of driving around in my dads 53 Ford F100. Her name is Ole Betsy and as a kid he'd get me to yell "C'MON OLE BETSY!" to encourage her to start up. I remember feeling every yell would harmonize with the vibration of her trying to start up until she woke up and was ready to run. These machines are alive, and it's like the elements conduct together with us. I've learned a lot from your videos and am really glad to come across people like you and your husband. Much respect ❤‍🔥

Hi 👋, Sally, great work guys, yes new bikes are a bit more reliable, I’ve still heard strange things about them which he wouldn’t expect or shouldn’t expect, and then make them so complicated for mission controls, and to stop you guys us guys getting into them and doing our work ourselves, plus do you need expensive equipment?, Were they old bikes you only need a few hundred dollars pounds euros worth of tools and you can do the most of the work yourself, that’s enough of me ramping on reaching on rabbiting on, Look forward to listening and watching your next teardown , stay safe ride free, Phil from the moulin,

The 84 is a great bike and the spline shaft and starter upgrades are well-spent time and money. The early chassis has nearly perfect geometry. I have a few early FXR bikes. I usually take a police rider course every year. The instructors are very impressed. As your riding skills develop, youll probably lose the short shocks and Wide Glide conversion. I just build a nice turnkey 80 plus hp engine with stock reliability and the modern riders spend a lot of time looking at the tail light. I user to be a Buell Tech Rep and had many conversations with Erik about the FXR. He was the engineer brought in to get the project back on track and he really delivered.

Harley oem rocker box gaskets are hands down better than any aftermarket rocker box gaskets. I stop in dealerships every so often and grab a set or 2. You kow eventually they will stop selling them. I probably have 20-25 sets in the garage.

That’s prepared! We normally have good luck with the James gasket sets, but proper installation is key lol, i might have torn that one.

Guys, a little tip on the glass bead cab. When ur done, pull the gloves completely inside out and let them hang down. Thus assures you of not sticking ur hands into a slimy mess next time you use it, if you use it several times in a day, and the gloves last 4 times as long. They won't dry out and crack.

If you use flat sprockets and spacers you can buy cnc cut aluminum sprockets from Sprocket Specialists and get away from the stamped steel ones that wear your chain prematurely.

100% the new bikes just do it like the Evos and older. Until recently I rode an M8 Softail as a daily, it is a great bike, reliable and easy.... but it doesn't make me smile like riding the wife's Evo. M8's just don't have that character or charm.... and I dread the day I have to start wrenching on it.
