I have the 127 in my Softail. Upgraded 🔋 battery all balls starter gear reduction set on clutch hub along with Rivera pro clutch! Great running motor and pulls like a freight train! Nothing but smiles and miles! I’ll keep the whole lifter thing in mind when I approach the 15k miles on the clock. Btw great content!

I would like to see a good review of the Ultima shovelhead, I've seen quite a few on their evolution and twin cam but little to nothing on the 98 shovelhead. I'm seriously considering getting one for my 78 flh.

That's a evo style motor they are known for eating lifters. Because of the extreme angle they meet the cam. 15 to 30 thousand miles is what you get out of one of Harleys lifters for a aggressive to even moderate rider in one of Harleys motors quite often. Hence it's replacement by the twin cam. Literally as soon as you pulled the heads off. And i saw that evo timing cover. I was thinking ... oh don't tell me he pulled that engine for a set of lifters.

I have 200 thousand miles on my 80 inch evo.i did small head work and bigger cam not because I needed to.ive done base gaskets a few times a few stators ,that's it never broke down once.

It is nice to see some more info on the ultima engines. Especially the thrust side of that cylinder still seeing rhe hone marks after your 16,000 mile thrashing is a plus! My 124 ultima twin cam just showed up yesterday! Can't wait to get it in and started!

@hybridEP3 well, I live in utah, and we are getting rounded with snow right now, so it's parked. I will say, the thing has been driving like a dream. Plenty of power throughout the rpm range. Very easy to drive. Doesn't skip a beat. It does however run pretty hot. Definitely needs a larger oil cooler which I'm going to be installing before the thaw this spring.

Great video and a great band I'm glad you found the problem and it can be fixed. I honestly believe that back in the day more than say 10 years ago when Revtech was practically giving motors away that they created a lot of bad feelings in the industry of the V-Twin. The revtech motors had plenty of good and bad, and I think it's very possible that Ultima was always scrutinized because of it. They've put a lot of research and design and some fairly decent assembly and parts specifications in the Ultima motors. In my opinion they are the best option if you don't want to get into the S&S price point.
@whatyoumakeofit6635 Жыл бұрын
I hear about more problems. From s&s engines and components, than I do about ultima stuff. Most of what I hear about ultima is people complaining that ultima is all Asian made.

I've bought these 'unassembled' before, other that some mild machining issues , it looked like they were running their tooling longer than necessary ,but parts quality was never a problem.

Won't help much. Its the Evo's extreme lifters angle even the Harleys do this. That's why it was replaced with the twin can motor. 30 thousand is lifter replacement time. For a harlry treated nicely. If your raping it. 15-20 you should probably take a look.

Performance EVO engines eat up lifters, this isn't unique to Ultima. They've got wonky valve angles, you keep the oiling system up to spec and not let it get out of hand they hold together fine.

Hey dumb question but I’m thinking of building a 127ci ultima for my shit. I was wondering where do you mount the oil filter cuz my evo motor is the one with the oil filter up front.
@urbanassaultmedia15432 жыл бұрын
on my FXR that this motor was in, the factory location for the oil filter is under the transmission and I just reused that. On yours you can remove the filter mount off your existing engine and just bolt it to the Ultima, the case has threaded holes to accept that mount

I bought a 127 Ultima Elbruto quite a few years ago, it ran fantastic for 600ks and I started to get lifter noise, I limped it home about 20ks and she was rattling. Pulled the cam cover off and one of the lifters was totally destroyed, these were Jim's lifters, had the rebuilt on warranty but it cost me as they only covered parts. It got new cases, oil pump, pistons, rings, just about the whole motor., so now I would never buy Jim's anything again.From the factory it came with Jims cam followers and oil pump you would think your pretty safe, but no.
