Triumph used to make a touring version of the Rocket III… I had one in 2012. It was detuned to 105 HP but was set up perfectly for long distance comfort. I took it to Bike Week in Scottsdale Az one year and the Harley guys couldn’t believe it was a 140 inch motor. It made their Softails and Dynas look puny. I miss that bike. Should’ve never traded it.

After 2 years with my Rocket 3 R, that’s the one you want. Just had the interesting options that you would pay buying the GT version and you get a much better position for properly riding that beast. That being said, it’s much more user friendly then it looks and the quality of the entire bike make it a good price vs what you get.

Is it a beginner bike tho? I want that bike so bad but feel it’s way to powerful for someone without experience
@pierrepatry97334 ай бұрын
@@aisjwksidh1825 i would suggest to start with a lighter motorcycle at first. It’s not the power that can be (the) problem: because of the mapping and other safety programs (anti-wheeling, ABS, etc) and of course your self control. But the weight (less then 700 pounds which is reasonable), the length, height: it can make a bit of a challenge in close quarters/low speed maneuvers. I know i would cry if i dropped my dream bike from time to time because i’m learning to ride. And it’s going to cost a lot of money to fix some of the stuff that will eventually break/scratch/bent. 🤷♂️ I’m sure you’ll get yours and i sincerely wish you one. Until then, get a used motorcycle (you like), take all the courses you want/can because they really, really help. And those courses are really fun. Like rodeo on you mechanical horse. And if (when) you drop it… Won’t be as bad. 👍

Bought a new GT a couple of months ago. There was just something about it. First bike in almost 40 years to do that. The little torque dance it does in neutral when you blip the throttle had something to do with it I'm sure. For us old paratroopers, the mild forward controls is a godsend to our knees and hips. Love my 3R, as I prefer the sportier position from higher pegs and wider bars and can use weight more and has slightly more lean. Still a good tourer tho. My U.K. bike redlines at 7k, fact it makes more torque at 2000rpm than most bikes peak is great with peak power at 6000rpm, and can average 55mph cruising on motorway but average 41mpg. Furthest I’ve seen was 185 miles on one tank and shortest was 130 miles in Sport 😎 Having ridden both, the turn in on the 3R is way better as you have a bit more weight over the front tyre, and more counter steer on the straighter-wider bar but you need longer arms to get comfortable with, the front rake is stepped so not as long as first appears but check the Avons too & that they are not squared as the Rocket is very sensitive to that. I often ride on tighter turns and use a bit of pendulum flick and rear trail brake to get the bike nicely tucked in, sit on the rear side wall and roll out, very satisfying 😎 And a flash will give you ~180bhp rear wheel 😈 and unlock rev limiters … higher redline, oh and try one with the quick shifter, full throttle shifts and auto blipper downshifts, awesome and really livens the big bike up 😎

Another note about the 2020+ Rocket 3. The default throttle mapping limits the throttle to 70%, even in sport mode, even at a full twist. So you're only getting ~70% of the bike's potential. As far as the ending of the video goes, seems like a fueling issue. I haven't had any similar issues with mine though. I did a bit of cross-country on mine and was averaging ~40 MPG and got about 170 miles per tank before I felt the need to refuel. Zipping around town with a lot of stop and go, I only get ~35 MPG. It definitely drinks gas, but mine's also ECU tuned to give me 100% throttle and is noticeably faster than stock. If you're absolutely ripping it, 30-32 MPG.
@mikewood60712 жыл бұрын
I owned a 2021 Rocket GT I absolutely LOVED IT!!! It was surprising, how light it felt after you got it above 10 miles an hour, and amazingly nimble, for a heavy-ass bike and sexy looks. until I road tripped it, from Corpus Christi to east Texas, about 2 hours north of Houston. With your feet forward, there’s no way to squirm around on the seat, after an hour in the same position. So your butt and lower back, are in agony after 2 hours. I found myself actually looking forward to the next fuel stop. I think the R model would be a better tourer, due to having your feet below you. The torque was addictively MESMERIZING!!! I traded for the new 1200 GT Tiger I’m much happier on the trip to east Texas now

I live in the Eastern Sierra Nevada, very close to western Nevada. Not only are there plenty of stretches of road over a hundred miles without gas stations, but what good does it do if the town closes down and rolls up the sidewalks at 6pm? Sure, most pumps have card readers, so you can buy gas after the station closes, but all it takes is a one pump station with a broken reader or the internet to be down (which happens a lot in small remote towns) and you're stuck. Better carry some cash for when the station opens in the morning. I only have a 130ish mile range, but don't tour, and have to plan my longer trips carefully. (Back in the early eighties, I had a KZ750LTD and when I'd run out of gas, I'd take the tank off and hitchhike with it to a gas station, where I'd fill it up and hitchhike back to my bike.)

As far as the tight twisties I have had exactly one guy on a sport bike I couldn’t keep up with or pass, while I have passed dozens of sport bikes. I would have no problem doing a ride with a group of sport bike guys, I may not be the fastest but I would bet I would be no where near the rear. I think the reviewer is just not used to the weight of the Rocket. And I have been on much twistier roads than in the video. Add a windshield and saddlebags and you have a great tourer as well. May have missed it, but I didn’t see any discussion about YN’s complaints about the rear suspension having too much rebound dialed in. I’ve only done test rides, but I think for those of you who weigh at least, say, 235 lb., you’ll find that unlike most bikes, the suspension is dialed in nicely for us big boys.

Youd think theyd tune in an ECU map for "touring mode" to try and limit the fueling a bit to extend the range of a full tank.
@candymintz2 жыл бұрын
or make a gas tank twice the size, which is what Triumph should have done in the first place.

The bike gets decent range. I recently bought a 2020r model. My standard cruising speed is 80-85 mph. Mostly highway I get comfortably 160 miles. 170 ish if I push it. Furthest I pushed it was 175 miles. Pumped like 4.4 gallons so it wasn’t completely empty. It would get even more range if i cruised at slower speeds but I don’t.
@noelmannion44332 жыл бұрын
That would be the sensible thing to do… …but this bike just wasn’t born to be sensible 🤷♂️

Range is decent on my 3R, 54mpg on motorway. 160 mile + range… short shifting makes a big difference… and if you want to lower power then there is a wet mode and road mode is a lot more chilled than Sport, you can also completely disable TC for the hooligans and tyre roasters 😆
@albarytu2 жыл бұрын
Range is actually not bad. If you need to extend your range you can already use road mode and ride smoothly, even use the cruise control. But feeling that torque in sport mode is just too addictive. That's the problem.

Dude you need to speak to Alan Millyard in the UK. The man has a Dodge Viper V10 engined bike. You need to ride it and check out some of his other creations like his 6 cylinder Z1 Kawasaki

The redline is actually at 7k rpm. I've ridden quite a few of these and you rarely need to go beyond 5k anyways.

That Gen 1 2300cc triple is over-built, that mill can go 9K using MoTec ECU, tuning software. The issue w/ the new R3 is Triumph didn't learn anything from the previous model. It would cost but a few pennies more per bike to make it a real world-beater in the cruiser market . The Gen 1 R3 can't beat a Duc Diavel...the Diavel gives the R3 w/ a Carpenter 245 kit a fit. The Gen 2 engine for all it's capacity just takes a huge crap approaching the rev limiter, big nose-dive due to software mapping when it's capable of still making big power reliably, safely

I put the mid pegs on my GT after a year and a half and it is a lot more comfortable and better for the curves. The problem with the power is that it makes my other bikes seem tame. It is more like a muscle car than a bike. It still makes me smile when I ride. That's the whole point. Not had mine cut out on me yet. The key fob is a pain and the suspension is not bad when adjusted to your riding style

i just switched from aprilia tuono v4 to rocket 3. loved my aprilia, had it for a year, but after the novelty feeling were off, i didn't want to ride it. every time i took it to work i didn't want to ride it back after 14 hours shift. it became my weekend bike, i take it out for a day, have fun and put it back to next week. also didnt like certain things. aprilai run hot, like hot day and you're stuck in straffic, it overheats. the ride was always too jerky, it was fun, but not on the days you want a calm ride, even in touring mode. so i test drove rocket 3. Bike has everything i need and nothing i dont. only thing i do miss from my aprilia, is the front wheel dumper and long gears. I accelerate faster, i go faster in most regards (going straight), it flicks fairly easy, not as easy as sport bike, but not far from it. i got saddle bags on it, and and pillion bag. Im golden now. i can take it for a long ride, with no worries. Also in comparison to my aprilia tuono..... on aprialia in race mode i was getting about 90-100 miles per tank, on this guy i get 130-140 miles per tank. it doesnt run hot as aprilia does, handles hot day in traffic perfectly. plenty of power, with smooth delivery. feels very confident on the road. doesn't has excess things, only what you need. Like aprilia had ton of gimicky racer things, 6 modes, on the go traction control button in place where your turn signals had to be, so i ended up never using turn signals and etc. Rocket, has every thing in right places and proper amount of it. you can drag race it, but it wont be good for track day. so if you want speed and comfort, but don't ever plan to hit a track, rocket is your bike. btw im 35, too young to be a cruiser dad.

Took a two-up trip last year on my 2020 Rocket 3 GT. 7000+ miles from Michigan to California and back in 15 days. It’s not bad for touring, we’re wanting to take it on another long trip next year. The 150 mileish range just gives you a break every two hours to stretch a little bit.
@TheTyrone19812 жыл бұрын
Just bought a 2020 r model a week ago in Mississippi. Rode it back home to Texas. Amazing bike so far. Comfortably mostly highway I get 160 miles riding the way I do. Cruise control set between 80-85 mph. Pushing it 170 ish miles out of a tank. If I slowed down my cruising speed it would get better lol. I also have a 2017 busa and a 2014 m109. It’s not hayabusa fast but man when that torque hits it definitely makes my other bikes feel sluggish in the torque department. Great bike
