If you hold the throttle open a bit it’ll fire, I ride mine to work when it’s cold and it does this. If I hold the throttle open a little so it doesn’t pull so much vacuum it lights right off. 5 degrees is pretty damn cold though,

That's what a good starter motor on a good engine is for: never giving up. And bless you for your faith in Harley-Davidson. When she started up she sounded as though she had just come off a 100-mile run.

This same thing happened to my RKS this winter. The trick I learned is to turn on the fuel pump then turn it off then turn the fuel pump on again and it starts right up cold!!!! Easy fix just prime the pump 2x

I'm experiencing the same on my 2015 SGS. I left it alone after 3 tries.

I just moved somewhere that I’ve had to keep my bike outside and we got snow for a few days and when it finally had mostly melted (still cold as fuck) I started my bike up and had the same thing, scared the shit out of me until she turned over

Having the exact same problem with my 2018 Electra Glide Ultra Classic with M8 107. Did you find the problem?
@MrJasonSalas5 жыл бұрын
What oil did you have in the bike? HD360? If so it's just too thick at that temperature to allow for an easy start. The Auto-compression valve is open (can hear it) to help the starter turn it over, but with the stock (Dino) oil the viscosity is just too thick. plus because harleys oil via the pushrods, it could take minutes for the oil to reach the valve train. A good full synthetic oil would allow it to turn over in the cold easier as the stock 20w/50 oil is just too thick at that temperature.
@Slking507 Жыл бұрын
Same viscosity whether syn or conventional. Same thickness for both. Total bullshit.

This is one good example of how to flood your bike where it no longer start!

I'm currently waiting for Harley Assist to come out and see what they can do as mine just did exactly the same (without the actual start-up)... not impressed.

Marcus Row I have a 2018 114c.i. and it won't start in the cold THIS YEAR below 35°. I bought it Feb. 15th 2018 and put 1,324 miles on it by May 2nd with no issues and it was cold here single digits etc. in Pennsylvania last Feb. thru April. I ride in temps. 30° and above always. It's at the dealer for the 2nd time in 9 days & they have no clue.

What was the point of starting it in 5 degree weather ?
@chadwicoff63785 жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure this out ?
@ThrottleResponse6 жыл бұрын
She had balls and was really trying though! My bike wouldn't have given the time of day at those temps. Why are you twisting the throttle while cranking - that is not going to do anything, it is fuel injected.
@jetstream4546 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's just loading raw fuel into the pipes, evidently. And can make for massive backfires
@Duzi4lyf5 жыл бұрын
Throttle Response my 103 use to do that and if i twist the throttle just a hair back it would start without hesitation so it does help
