Jaby … 🤦‍♀️ “Just be funnier” is a BS oversimplification of that particular issue and your mixing in several other issues along with it. You wouldn’t argue that the offspring of enslaved people don’t deserve any legislative correction to the centuries of inequality because you know the disadvantage is irrefutable. It’s like starting a competition with a hand tied behind your back, except these were chains. Women have also had to get to where they are now (competitively) with centuries of also being disadvantaged (incomparable to slavery, of course, kinda). Listen to women’s stories and you’ll learn of these disadvantages. I’ll give you three examples of historical disadvantages to start you off: • Salem (or any) Witch trials/drownings/burnings. • The Suffragette Movement • Bodily Autonomy In which of these examples would being “Funnier”, Less Witchy, or “More Marketable” would have leveled the playing field? When you admit to not knowing enough about something, _that’s_ when you stfu and listen/learn. 👍

In the context of the show... The most obvious example of women not being taken seriously is that there are no women in the Legion of Doom. In our world... Women were literally treated as less than men for centuries. You forget how small of a percentage of time exists in civilization that women have actually had the same rights. People have gone from taking them not seriously at all, to being much more fairly treated today. But because this had to be built over time, men had already been in ALL of the prominent positions. Women have had to break through that. Are women in less prominent positions overall because less are qualified, or is it because men started there and they've had to squeeze in? Would things have been different if they had both started from 0, instead of 100% men at the top? We can't know completely, but I'm sure it had an impact on where women are now. When you have to start the race 300 years after the other guy, it's hard to ever catch up.

Jaby saying that he doesn't know what glass ceiling they're talking about is the most cringe I have felt while watching this channel. I come from a country where females are not even allowed to be born. Yet, because of my luck & surroundings, I never had to face any discrimination based on my gender. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And "white women" may have a lot of privileges compared to other women...but that doesn't mean they can't fight for their rights or can't complain. If you really go by that logic, most of us who can afford 3 meals a day should not be allowed to complain.

Reasons to love Harley Quinn just from this episode alone: 1) Dr. Psycho as a misogynistic napoleonic asshole played by Tony Hale aka Buster Bluth, who then gets CANCELLED by the Legion Of Doom! 2) Clayface as an extremely overly theatrical thespian actor played by Alan Tudyk, Jesus that guy has range. 3) Wanda Sykes as the Queen of Fables turned into a tax book with the gingerbread man saying “At least I’m not out on the street turning tricks for cash anymore.” 4)Harley dropping a Wu-Tang quote! Also it’s sad but true that female villains are rarely if ever on the same level as males. Sure a some like Hela might be god tier threats but they are sadly VERY outnumbered by males, that really needs to change.

Idk why Jaby thinks men don't complain, and women do when it's the other way around. Historically, women have been told to just shut up and get over it, their issues being trivialised, and when someone doesn't toe the line, she is vilified or just completely ignored. Even today, women are just starting to get to the position of power, and everyone is like look that's a woman, we solved the problem. We should always look at statistics rather than looking for individual examples, like "I know a guy". People talking shit about Louis CK is nothing, the guy is a millionaire and still releasing specials. For eg., some studies show that on average women's pain tolerance is much higher than men's, because historically they have been brought up being told that they are the weaker sex so they don't suffer as much as a man. So, women try to downplay their pain, even in a medical situation. As men, we have a huge blind spot and we have to proactively try to see so that we can understand better. We shouldn't just sit and wait for someone else to tell us. Or at the very least we should refrain from making any generalised statement without even trying to have a better understanding of the situation.

I agree with some of what you've said & what they said in the review of this reaction. I know why Jaby said that, 'cause men 99% of the time do not complain, a little to a few men do, women complain a lot more & it's not the other way around(search for the amount of men complaining to the amount of women & you'll see what I'm talking about, so Jaby has a point, now you know why he said it.). As men we weren't taught to complain, we were taught to shut up & take it like a man(which is also a problem) & we understood that the world is horrible to all genders(and that we'll have to live with for a while, 'cause the governments run sh*t) & some of us have been helping all genders to make life better for future generations not to grow up in a world like it used to be & somewhat still is. Plus, plenty of men & women have made their classic opposite gender suffer, but most of us have supported each other in many ways. Women couldn't have done it without us, as we couldn't have done it without them. In some cases a woman's pain tolerance is higher, in some cases a man's pain tolerance is higher, it truly depends. Men were taught to scream the pain off like a man(which is ridiculous) & not show any feelings especially crying. I'll do you one better, no gender should make a generalised statement without the proper understanding. Sometimes women don't get taken seriously, sometimes men don't get taken seriously. Yes, I am incredibly aware that women have gone through a crap load of bad things, absolutely & that they've been put down for millennia & didn't get a lot of opportunities. I'm not discouraging that, but it still important for all of us to be accurate, instead of seeing damn near everything about women as OMG their the victims(in a lot of cases they are), OMG this is patriarchy(in some cases it is) & without acknowledging that men have gone through a crap ton of bad things as well( but yeah, we're talking about the misogyny & sexism towards women, so I won't go into the misandry & the sexism towards men) & how we can help each other. And No, NOT EVERYONE is saying that we solved it, that's ridiculous, most of us are saying that problems both genders have including not getting the opportunity to rise to power, haven't been solved, we know, most of us know, we do. Most of us, are not sitting and waiting for others to tell us, we already know, some of us don't know or even care, I implore those guys to care. I've looked at statistics, actual practice & more than 'one guy' I know to have that better understanding. I've looked at statistics as well, but people need more than statistics to make a conclusion, instead of have the idea that statistics are the be all & end all, which is a mistake that a bunch of people make. Love the show & the reaction though. I also agree with Achara that men get away with a lot, women do too, if not more, especially in this day & age. This ain't gender warfare, this is truth.

I think the show does a good job of portraying how women have to struggle more to achieve the same status or success as men - in a system where one side has always been heavily favoured over the other - there is bound to be inequality and that inequality is bound to be deeply entrenched in the system. Now real life has more nuanced examples of this but in the show, it's pretty apparent in how Harley was always treated as insignificant without the Joker - this is pretty much the focus of this episode and how (as someone pointed out in the comment section) there really are no female villains in the Legion of Doom. Considering how the show writers tend to be more realistic in this series, it makes sense they would talk about the bias working against the protagonist who is aiming to become a fearsome villain in her own right - it would be pretty unrealistic not to show the problems Harley is facing because of her gender.

I don't think the "just be so&so" argument works in this case. How many instances have been heard of amazing older female actresses struggling to get great roles after they're no longer in their "prime"? While their male-aged counterparts will be making out with 25 year old actresses in their next hit movie, or just being given more opportunities, more money by studios, more chances to mess up etc.... I think that goes for comedians too, it's one thing to be a funny female comedian, but it's another thing entirely to navigate that male-dominated industry, where your male counterparts may not respect you, your work or sometimes even your body.

A lot situations he described are way deeper than it is, there are so many factors that determines female comedians or actors' success in the entertainment field. Studios don't finance female creators and directors, let alone poc/women of color. Comedy clubs picking selective female comedians that are not always funnier but more marketable etc... and we're not even talking about the amount of nepotism babies in Hollywood Many movie companies, comedy clubs, are owned by generally white males, and just because we are seeing a change or we finally have some female directors, leaders, millionaires, doesn't change the disproportion of the statistics. I think saying female complaining about wages is whining because there are rich females in the world is a very troubling and oversimplifying mindset. It's the same as saying "look at Beyonce and Jay Z, there are the biggest celebrity couples in the industry and music icons and they're black, which means black people should stop complaining about racism cause that's whining, if you work hard you'll get to where they are. What is the glass ceiling? Look up the pay gap. Think about the fact that until 1974 women were not permitted to have a credit card in their name. The WNBA thing is in part a marketing issue. The NBA is heavily marketed but the WNBA does not market it's players or do any real marketing outside of local markets. I'm not saying that's the only reason it's not popular but the NBA was dead until Magic and Bird showed up in 1980. As for the comic thing, comics are insecure assholes (mostly), I remember doing a show and a talented local comedian had another gig and needed to open the show and I remarked that she's a strong comic so the audience would be primed for the rest of us and the two other comics (men) lost their minds and mocked me for saying she was a strong comic. Those two guys are no longer even working as comics (I'm not either) but she is going strong today. Still more local famous but she's good enough to be a national touring comic but men tend not to take her seriously. I think the gender theme makes more sense when you look at it less from the perspective of real world and more from the perspective of comics. That's why this show goes harder than what may seem relevant today. Comics still tend to treat women as sexual objects, still tend to sideline female characters, and still tend to punish women more than men. Between fridging, costumes, the sheer number and amount, etc... it isn't hard to see that it's a men's industry. That's changing, of course, but slower than others. Women supervillains don't exist, and in the comics, women characters tend to have way worse outcomes than men because it tends to be what "drives the hero to be who they are meant to be" etc. I don't think you really have to go into the real life analysis quite so much to understand what the show is saying, if that's difficult to understand or see. Not gonna hate on the differences of opinion, I just hate to see the show characterized as reaching too far when, in the context of comics, it's an excellent knock back at an industry that does have it's tropes to deal with!

Arkham is way more horrible than Fables having to live in suffering in that book, okay, if she only knew what they did to villains in Arkham, my goodness, but yes, she should be acknowledged as a Supervillain asshole just like the male Supervillain assholes. Plus, y'all will see later why they felt compelled to put her **s there, it's a YIKES situation. I already said my peace on the, I guess Jaby-Achara debate in another comment. Yeah the bs male privilege, then we can say as men that women have female privilege with the things that they get away with & the things they don't understand and listen to about us(I love the way you said it about male privilege, Jaby.😂). I get why some guys think that when a woman wants to talk to them, that this woman wants sex. Sometimes it's because the guy is a douchebag, most of time, guys don't get approached by women & usually when they get approached by these women, he thinks oh maybe she's attracted to me(makes sense that he would feel that way, if he mostly gets approached by women who want to have sex with him). Sometimes the guy wants to shoot his shot immediately, which is not the best idea, sometimes the guy's just horny, sometimes the guy never would've thought that this gal would be interested in him, so he thinks he'll lock things down the wrong way by thinking that she wants to have sex with him. I've seen women do all these things as well. Plus, the amount of times men approached women who thought that these guys want to have sex with her is astronomical, you can almost not find a woman today that does't think a guy approaching means he wants her, instead of thinking that he might just be asking for directions or other important stuff. But whatever.😏 People have also brought it to a point where they have this idea that women suffer in LITERALLY every area in life & that is absurd & needs to change. Achara, it's not that people don't take women seriously in the WNBA that leads to them not making a lot of money, it's WOMEN not buying tickets to fill up those arenas & not buying a lot of their merch. Women rather invest millions into watching housewives shows & the kardashians where women tear each other apart, instead of work together to achieve a common goal. Plus, how many women can list 10 female basketball players off the top of their heads? 99% of them can't. Bill is right & I & many have been saying this for a while now way before he did. It's true on movies too, that it depends on how bankable you are & how much you are willing to allow Hollywood to do with your body. Women go through make-up chair & losing weight & RARELY gaining muscle, Men go through the same things plus having to be good-looking & DEFINITELY gaining muscle & lifting heavy objects. Then I saw women being like, I bet men don't have to go through this, yeah right😏(I gotta admit one gal did correct her tho', I do appreciate that.) White women complaining indeed, they'll most likely never stop. The women aren't funny in this one, was a joke indeed, not to be taken seriously, I do know that a few guys have that stance on it, those are old men & you'll find a young one here and there(they shouldn't think that way, I agree, even though some women ruin it for other women, just like some men ruin it for other men). But if you're funny, people will notice & you'll make money. Period.

Women don't even like asking men out. They are sure as hell not going to go harass a man. That's way too forward for them. What women do like is matchmaking. Bringing people together. Meaning women help other women out. It's a team effort. And that team can get pretty large and can include men. And if you don't like this girl, these people create problems for you and start fights with you and spread vicious rumors about you. And the girl that likes you doesn't have to do shit. Just has to look sad and not wear makeup and stop dyeing her hair. When it comes to sexual harassment, women are like Al Capone. He was a gangster and everyone knew that but they could never pin anything on him because he got other people to do his dirty work. So, they got him for not paying his taxes, but not for all the murders, bootlegging, prostitution, gambling, bribery, and drugs.

yeah. so right. no woman has EVER outright harrassed a man............there arent female teachers in jail for having sex with their 15 year old students....... being forward isnt a male thing as i know plenty who are NOT forward (in fact the only forward man i know is me. yall all need to learn how to be upfront and transparent). its all about individuality and sadly most humans are too weak to be individuals so you act like the people you surround yourself with and that is where stereotypes and statistics come from. the problem is intelligence isnt the norm so average (aka the majority) take statistics/stereotypes as facts that fit the whole (all women do this, all blacks do that) instead of going with the reality of facts and figues: SOME aka a percentage are that way NOT the entire group.

Christopher Hitchens said it best, women arent as funny, not because society hates them, but because they dont have to appeal to society in the same way men do. Men have to earn their value in every room they walk into and therefore they pick up skills to have a place in society. Young women dont have to be as skilled socially because men value them regardless and women provide support for each other more. Its a picked up skill, its not just a matter of intellect or interest.

I think that 'everyone suffers' is a reductive way to look at things. To take sexism as an example, a horrifyingly high percentage of women experience sexual assault in their lifetimes and a disturbing percentage of men commit suicide. Just trying to fix those things in a gender blind way won't work, you need to look at what our society does to protect sexual predators and what it does to silence men in emotional turmoil. Yes, men and women both suffer, but refusing to look at the ways in which they suffer differently, and not trying to fix those problems in targetted ways, is a losing battle.

Women can make as far as they want, they just need to learn to pay the price, make sacrifices etc that are involved on the way to the top. Simple example- you wanna be the best boss, be ready for getting called a c*** by the employees because male bosses are damn sure not getting called besties/kings/mi lords. They are getting called d*ck* by everyone. Manipulating your mind into thinking that men get away with a lot in the society while women can't...it's just that, in your mind...made up. Girls are doing disservice to themselves by thinking that.

Men are also not getting regularly sexually harassed in the workplace, in the bar, or on the walk home, either. Your understanding that women are afraid of name-calling as the primary reason they stay out of competitive roles is sorely lacking. And that's just for when it *is* a conscious choice; you completely overlooked the disproportionate amount of women who are passed up for promotions and opportunities even though they *have* made the same sacrifices as the men they work with.
@UKpowerunleashed

@@IceMetalPunk name calling and sh*t talking was just an example. I know what you are trying to say. I cannot argue with the 1st part because you brought oranges into a discussion about apples. 2nd part, the one where promotion is denied- maybe they are not as good as they think they are. 🤷‍♂️ It happens with a lot of men too. They work hard, come office early, leave half an hour late...you know, bring office work at home and what not, still they are denied a promotion. Again, AN EXAMPLE- maybe the job requires a certain set of characters that a hard working person might lack. Let's say, charisma or being a good influencer to reel in clients etc. I can flip it and ask you the same- why men are earning less in fashion and modelling? Why they are not given equal opportunity? Why straight men are not preferred? Why homosexual males can make it easily? My point being- stop cherry-picking. Stop acting like victims all the time.

@@UKpowerunleashed ... you keep saying "maybe it's because of this", "maybe it's because of that", etc. Perhaps stop speculating and look at the statistics? In some specific cases, sure, MAYBE it's because the particular woman hasn't worked hard enough to earn a promotion. And in some specific cases, sure, MAYBE a man gets denied a promotion. But statistically, women are turned down far more often than men, even when all those things are accounted for. THAT is the problem. When taken as a big picture, there are only two possible explanations: either you think women are generally just not as good as men at their jobs, or there is sexism happening in the hiring and promotion decision process. If you really think that women are, on average, worse than men at their jobs just because they're women, then you are sexist and part of the problem, and your belief does not align with the evidence. Your "flip" about modeling is... well, silly. Saying "sexism against men exists in modeling, therefore it's not sexism if it happens against women in other fields" is like saying "people are more racist against Mexicans in Texas, so therefore racism against Black people elsewhere isn't a problem". A problem in one place doesn't negate a problem in another. Sexism is bad when it's against men in the modeling world *and* when it's against women elsewhere. Unless you're trying to say that women are inherently worse at, for instance, STEM fields than men, and men are inherently worse at modeling than women? Which would literally be an explicit example of a sexist claim.

You don't understand it and yet want to label it and the closest label you can give is "sexism" 🤷‍♂️ Stop manipulating my statements. Of course I am NOT saying that women are not good at STEM or men are not good at modelling. What I am actually saying is about sacrifices that are required to be made, that which men make but women are not ready to make it and still want it all. There is no reading between the lines.
