i like that scene when theyre in the hive and joker says harley loved him when he was a famous villan, but the nurse loved him when he was a suburban dad. its almost a throw away line, but i think it really hits it on the head. harley was obsessed with joker, initially from a psychology stand point, and later from a desire to be approved of by him. You cant base a relationship on obsession or worship without expecting abuse because the power dynamic is so fucked. thats why it seems like whenever celebs date groupies or fans it always ends in some abuse scandal. thats no excuse for being an abusive partner. but its like putting a steak in front of a wolf an being surprised when it takes a bite.

Joker spending his pseudo-retirement murdering teachers who give his step-kids bad grades, local creeps just in case they try anything, and hitting up the post office to get some cash to pay for anniversary presents is a weirdly fantastic end for the character. If he didn't appear at all or just as a cameo in season 3 (assuming it happens), then I'd be happy with how his story ended. And I can honestly imagine this Batman just having a drink with him and asking him not to murder teachers, then telling him that he used Wayne Corp to financially destroy the last teacher who failed Damian.

An interesting detail behind the scenes is that Joker only survived Season 1 because the writers needed someone who knew where the book was. He was literally just a plot device so they had every reason to phone it in with his characterisation. Despite this, they did the extra work and gave him a character arc. I think this is the best animated Joker outside of Mark Hamill. Portraying him as an irredeemable psychopath is great but, aside from Joaquin Phoenix's incarnation, pretty much everybody does that so it's nice that they went in a different direction whilst still maintaining the fact that this is the Joker. I also love that Joker and Harley are like bickering siblings in these last few episodes. Both of them realised that romance was never going to work but they still have all that history and there's a sense that they care about each other. Heck, back in the Season 1 finale, Joker told Harley how important she was to him and he MEANT it. By that point, their relationship had already fallen apart because he killed Ivy but that underlying affection is still there.

He was actually returned to his normal self (Before Joker) and was a bartender, living with this family, but was slowly returning back into his Joker persona. By the time he was back to the Joker, Dr. Psycho had betrayed Harley and taken over the parademons Darkseid gave to her so there was no time or reason to really focus on getting the Joker into prison. Plus, he knew exactly where the book was and helped save the world from Dr. Psycho. Batman is likely keeping an eye on him but then again, this show is more of a comedy.
