As someone already mentioned, Harley was just shy of 50 at this point, either 48 or 49 depending on what part of the year this was filmed. He still takes a damn good bump for his age, though. Of course, anyone can take a bump, the trick is getting back up afterward. You can tell Race is a bit slow to get up compared to his prime, but you could probably cut off his arms and legs and he'd still make damn sure he got back up. [WARNING: Gross Story] A friend of mine gave Harley a ride after an indie show. Harley was in pretty bad shape at the time, extremely drunk, and my friend was positive Harley was going to puke in the back seat of his new car. But it was Harley Race and there was no way in hell he was going to refuse a favor to a legend of that caliber. Race did throw up multiple times, and every time it happened he kept his mouth closed, rolled down the window and spit it out on the highway. Not a drop touched the seats.

It's amazing how this historic segment would be the inspiration for the Booker T vs. Triple H feud in 2003. Booker T would be insulted way more than Ron Simmons was. He would not tolerate being told that he's better off being a limo driver, towel boy, or nappy headed entertainer here to make people laugh. He would win the hearts of the WWE fans and prove to the world that someone who was a troubled youth can overcome adversity and work hard to reach the top. He would defeat the racist WWE champion and become the world heavyweight champion at WrestleMania 19. That's what happened right?? Right guys?!!

@@trendmassacre8423 he was semi racist in character. You dont have to be a liberal to understand that. I'm a conservative Trump supporter and I know that. The racist is usually the clear heel and meant to be seen as a racist and a bad guy. Personally I always loved alot of the race based angles such as Nation of Domination or Latino Heat for example. There is no doubt WWE played race up in some of Booker T's angles though. I distinctly remember cheering for babyface Booker T against heel Christian in WWE for the IC belt. Christian wasn't racist character but was heel who was cheating to win every week against Booker T. WWE interjected racism into the angle through Lawler who was a heel commentator. Every week he would take about how Booker T got arrested for robbery as a youngster and spend the whole match telling people to "hide their wallets" and make funny comments about Booker T stealing and how he should be in jail. A menace to society, things like that. Clearly that was meant to be interpreted as a "racist stereotype" of Booker T who had obviously becoming a better person since his youth. especially when every week Christian who is obviously very white as a Canadian would steal that match from Booker while Lawler called Booker a "thief". It was one of my favorite angles with Booker (and he had alot of good ones) and Lawlers "racist" (obviously fake) commentary made Booker the clear fan favorite and the clear Babyface.
@thomasdemay98055 жыл бұрын
@@trendmassacre8423 we know Triple H isn't racist in real life and his motives for defeating Booker were less race based and were mostly Personal Ambition with a tiny bit of trying to bury WCW as well. Triple H defeated Austin in 3 Stages of Hell, ended Foleys career, defeated Sting, did everything possible to try to get booked to defeat Rock (mostly unsuccessful in this case). Triple H winning wasn't necessarily racist but that doesn't mean racism wasn't part of the angle or that Triple H as a heel didn't utilize this tactic. In conclusion I think racism was definitely part of that angle and the payoff the fans wanted was Booker to endure it and defeat it and win the WWF title but Triple H ego of course got in the way. Don't have to be a liberal to understand fans were robbed of the payoff and nothing wrong in my opinion with labeling Triple H a "racist" in the context of that specific storyline. PS Triple H and DX was also involved in the "racist vandalism" of Nation of Domination locker room to set up Hart foundation. So thats another angle where WWE used Racism with Triple H to go along with the example of the Christian Booker T feud I mentioned in my other post. Ironically it's the liberals you mention that prevent these type of fun race based stories from being portrayed in the boring modern product.

@Robby_C3 жыл бұрын
@Jay Titan bro, i think you are missing the point. it has nothing to do with the "first" anything... it has to do with content and context. You are right, the climate is different know, which is the point, the current climate is what if a show touches a controversial issue somebody somewhere immediately decides to get offended on behalf of somebody who might exist, and they complain about it as much as they can until the can.
@Robby_C3 жыл бұрын
@Jay Titan Not on anything mainstream... maybe they have Nia or Becky take a shot once in a blue moon, but that stuff absolutely gets complaints. There is outrage over something every single week about both companies. Certain things just catch fire more than others, but people treat finding "problematic material" like it's a full time job.... shit, thats the only reason "problematic" is a word! lol. It's a real thing... regardless of how you feel about it, you have to at least admit it exists.

@MrHmg553 жыл бұрын
@@chrismorgan7494 He only said "boy"? He'd called him an "errand boy" moments before and that wasn't bleeped. I thought for sure he had used the N-word, but I guess that was something even wrestling wouldn't work into an angle.

It was bleeped probably for the racist overtones of the word "boy". In the South in the days of Jim Crow, black men no matter what age were often addressed as "Boy" by whites. It was a sign of disrespect.

Harley Race goes on record as being one of the toughest wrestlers ever in American wrestling if not wrestling in general, next to the likes of; Lou Thesz, Nick Bockwinkel, Bruno Sammartino, 'High Chief' Peter Maivia, Blackjack Mulligan, The Wild Samoans, Ric Flair, The Road Warriors, The Steiners, Haku etc. But make no mistake, he probably greatly feared and respected Ron Simmons behind closed doors. Just as many others probably did too. Simmons strength according to many was something to be feared and thensome. Coming from college football and the NFL made him a; "Human Wrecking Machine" in wrestling. What's going on here is simply 'kayfabe' selling an upcoming matchup in WCW, they probably all laughed it off backstage. In real life however, regardless of Race's formidable reputation in the business. i'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to mess or tangle up with Ron Simmons on his worse day, let alone his best.

@@benthomas6828 Ron Simmons real life stature is part of what makes a fake product fun to enjoy. Because you can suspend disbelief and buy into the the storyline that is being developed. 3x All American at Florida State at Nose Tackle (the position which requires the most strength of all football positions) is no joke. Florida State isn't some division 3 school it's a big boy football factory. People say the Steiners never fucked with Simmons. Part of that is knowing Simmons can hold his own and wont take shit the other part is respect as Jocks for the accolades of Simmons in his athletic career. Earned respect. Take guys like Roman Reigns or The Rock they were good football players but nowhere near Simmons level. Comparing their football skills to Simmons would be like comparing Dolph (cant remember his last name) wrestling skills to Kurt Angle. They literally just talked about Simmons football accolades during the promo. The audience isn't going dismiss that. They know some guy of that stature isn't going to stand there and let some guy poke him in the chest and tell him to carry his bags in a semi racist way. It's the same reason WWE can get away with things with MMA champions like Lesnar.

+Dual Shock - I totally agree, waaaaaaaaaaay too many title changes that devalue the belt. Also, I can't tell you how many times this year I've seen the champ NOT come out last, whether its a house show or t.v. The Champ is ALWAYS supposed to be the last one to enter the ring. WWE Brass are f'n clueless these days. They're so bad that their "push" of Reigns ... is burying him o.O
@stellarhyme39 жыл бұрын
+Dual Shock When Harley was seven time world champion, it was earned through out years of wrestling, during a period when wrestling was a rougher way of life, in the ring and out. Same goes for Flair's sixteen championships. But now a days they take the belt off someone for a week, then put it back on them and that's a championship run, just so they can quickly hit a milestone it took guys like Harley and Rick years to get to. So that's why Triple H or Cena's times as champion don't mean much. It's not the same era, things aren't earned any more, they are just easily given.
