I love watching these vids. They make it look so easy. So easy in fact that I plan my own modding, set my goal, get motivated, get to the bike with my amateur tools, look at it. Even at times I take the seat off. Then put everything back and make an appointment with my mechanic. Just a note, the seat is completely different. Stock seat has very little passenger support and is way wider for the rider than that Saddlmen seat. So it's to me a "little" factor in the ride comfort along with the new suspension, at least a little.

So right off the bat, the Wilbers is a 13” shock which will inherently provide an improvement over the 12” on the stock. Even a RG Ultra with the stock 13” shock rides waaaay better than a RG or RG Special. The fix for the harsh ride is always the sag of 3/4” to 1” (or 33% of total travel) to put the bike in a suspended neutral position. The negative aspect of the Wilbers would be the unbalanced nature of the Nivomat only being on one side for a rubber mounted swing arm assembly which means forces are not balanced on both sides. This is deemed a critical negative aspect of the HD stock shocks by suspension aficionados so is a relevant issue and concern on the Wilbers.

I did measurements on several converted Wilbers bikes. While riding it definitely raises the bike to get the maximum ride comfort (continuous spring rate and damping adjusting). A few minutes after coming to a stop, the internal reservoirs release slowly the pressure and the bike has the normal (-Special) height. To be precise, front is a bit lower (less than 10mm/ 3/8in) and the rear around the same amount higher. The Tourings with std rear shocks are even a bit lower than stock, when parked. But honestly, You don't see the difference, when the bikes are parked.
